Children’s Ministry Resources

NNZ Child & Youth Ministry Dear Children’s Ministry Leader, My simple prayer is that this 2014 Children’s Ministry Resource Book is a blessing to you in your ministry to children this year. It is designed to give you great ideas, resources, and tools (or at least point you in the right direction to find these things). Each year a Children’s Ministry Resource Book has been produced. The material has been chosen because it relates to the different struggles or areas that leaders shared with me during the Big Ideas Tours. If you would like any copies of previous year’s Books, please contact me at the Conference Office and I can send you a physical copy or a soft copy via email. Thank you for all you do each week in your local church. May God continue to richly bless as you serve young people and share Christ. Lance Boulton NNZ Child & Youth Pastor

The aim of Children’s Ministry in the North New Zealand Conference: Jesus First—growing young people in Christ.

This is the goal for all worship and training for young people and leaders. It aims to help encourage a life built on Jesus Christ, empowered through the Holy Spirit and all for the glory of the Father. Jesus First in every decision, relationship, thought, word and action.

SDA Books On Children’s Ministry There are many websites with great ideas, resources and materials to help you run Sabbath School and Children’s programs in your local SDA Church. Just do a Google search for “Adventist Children’s Ministry resources” and enjoy a wealth of free information. But sometimes it’s also good to have an old-school book on hand too. Our Church has produced many excellent books to help provide everything you need to serve your children to the best of your abilities and God’s calling. In the following pages are a sample of some of these books. You don’t need all of them in your library but having even a couple will be a huge help. To find even more SDA books and resources, check out the Adventist Book Centre (www.adventistbookcenter.com or the regular middle page spread of latest ABC resources in the Record—see pic above), Advent Source (www.adventsource.org), or even do a search for Adventist resources at online stores like Amazon.com

The Church has developed some great Bible Studies covering the 28 Fundamentals for Children:

Stewardship Jack byJanice Matthews Stewardship Jack is a series of books by Janice Matthews on teaching children about stewardship. Using Jack, a black pup, the author weaves stewardship values into these interesting books.

Jack Gives Back Jack & The 10 Rules Jack’s Hats Jack is a dog. And like other dogs, he doesn't know much about history or science. But he has figured out tithe. In his first book Jack explains, in a way any child can understand, the importance of giving back to God. The simple words and charming photos will help you pass on to your children the same principles of stewardship that you've learned to live by.

Other Great Resources

Sometimes you just need a little help. It’s easy to get distracted or overwhelmed by all the different facets and aspects of Children’s Ministry. The scope of everything you need to do and know can sap your energy, inspiration, time and passion. This can leave you struggling to serve wholeheartedly in their local church. Many bow out of Children’s ministry before the Lord asks them to move on. It’s okay to ask for help … from God, other helpers in your church … and to look for help from books and websites. May the following resources help you not only to SURVIVE in your Children’s ministry role, but to THRIVE in the task God has appointed you to. May they help you to tap into the will and way of God and his desire to lead and sustain you. All of these books are designed to help you remember what is truly important and what may be okay to let go of (or relegate to the background).
