SHINJUKU GYOEN GREENHOUSE | EXPANSION GAME
FALL 2020
THE SHINJUKU GYOEN GREENHOUSE IS LOCATED IN THE SHINJUKU NATIONAL GARDEN AND IS CURRENTLY HOME TO NEARLY 3000 EXOTIC AND ENDAGERENED PLANT SPECIES FROM AROUND THE WORLD. OUR GOAL WAS TO CREATE AN ADDITION TO THIS GREENHOUSE THAT SUPPORTS NATIVE ENDANGERED SPECIES IN JAPAN. BY KEEPING THE SYSTEMS OF THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE AND REPEATING THE GEOMETRY OF THE SITE, THE EXTENTION BECOMES A SEAMLESS PART OF THE GARDENS. WE CREATED A HIGHLAND FOREST LIKE-ENVIRONMENT WITHIN THE STRUCTURE TO SUPPORT THE ENDANGERED SPECIES. THE TRAILS AND PLATFORM IN THE SPACE ARE DESIGNED TO IMMERSE THE USER IN THE ENVIRONMENT AND PROVIDE SPACE FOR EDUCATION AND EVENTS.

OPEN ACT | PREFORMATIVE SPACE FALL 2019 OPEN ACT IS A MULTIFUNCTIONAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN PHOENIX. THE SITE CURRENTLY PROVIDES A GATHERING SPACE FOR PERFORMANCE AND ART INSTALLTIONS. IN AN EFFORT TO MAINTAIN THIS, THE GROUND PLANE OF THE THEATER WAS ELEVATED AND ALL SPACE BELOW REMAINED TRANSPARENT AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THE THEATER CAN BE INTIMATE AND IN THE SAME DAY GROW TO TWICE ITS SIZE BY SHIFTING THE STAGE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, OFFERING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN INDOOR OR OUTDOOR THEATER SPACE.

CAMP TONTOZONA | MASTERPLANING
SPRING 2019 IN A COLLABORATIVE STUDIO THE RESDESIGN OF A NOT FOR PROFIT YOUTH SUMMER CAMP WAS PURPOSED. MY PEER, BOYANA BABANOVSKI, AND I WORKED TO DESIGN AN INTEGREL AND COST EFFECTIVE MASTERPLAN FOR THE CAMP THAT COULD EASILY BE BROKEN INTO PHASES BASED ON AVAILABLE FUNDING. THE MASTERPLAN WAS PURPOSED BASED ON THE SOCIAL AND ECOLOGICAL MAPPING OF THE SITE IN PRESCOTT, ARIZONA. THE NEW BUILDINGS FOLLOW THE CURVILINEAR GEOMETRY OF THE TOPOGRAPHY TO MINIMIZE COST AND DISTURBANCE TO THE LANDSCAPE.

LEVELS | MULTIFAMILY RESIDENTIAL FALL 2018
LEVELS IS A MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL HOUSING PROJECT LOCATED IN TEMPE, AZ THAT CREATES SPATIAL CLARITY THROUGH CHANGING ELEVATION IN THE SITE AND ON EACH FLOOR. THE RISE AND FALL OF EACH PLANE ALLOWS FOR MULTIPLE USES OF A SINGLE SPACE. THE EIGHT UNIT HOUSING PROJECT IS ORIENTED TO THE NORTH WITH MINIMAL OPENINGS ON THE EAST, WEST, AND SOUTH FACES DUE TO THE INTENSE SUN EXPOSURE WITHIN THE STATE. EACH UNIT INCLUDES CUSTOM BEDROOM FURNITURE THAT CONTINUES TO INTEGRATE SPATIAL DIVESITY WITHIN THE PROJECT.

PHOENIX NATURE CENTER | AN URBAN INVESTIGATION
SPRING 2018 THE PHOENIX NATURE CENTER WAS PROPOSED AS A PUBLIC SPACE TO CONNECT USERS TO NATURE WITHIN AN URBAN CONTEXT. THE CONTINUAL GROWTH OF POPULATION IN URBAN AREAS CREATES A DISCONNECT BETWEEN DAILY LIFE AND THE CONVERSATION WITH NATURE, PROMPTING THE DESICION TO INTEGRATE THE TWO FOR EASE OF EXPOSURE. THIS PROJECT WAS DESIGNED FROM THE CONNECTION OF POPULATION AND ECOLOGICAL DENSITY CIRCLES WITHIN THE REGION OF PHEONIX.
