Dan was studying information systems management at SUNY Cobleskill; Jessica was at SUNY Oneonta, studying psychology. The two recently bought a house in Oneonta, and Dan made their first Christmas in their new home a very special one. “I put the ring in a big box with lots of packing
peanuts, two candy canes crossed to form a heart and a note that said ‘I Have a Question to Ask You.’ I proposed in front of the Christmas tree. She’s a Christmas fanatic, so it was the perfect time to propose.” “I started bawling!” Jessica said. “All I got him was a sweater!” Jessica applied for the wedding sweepstakes at the fall wedding show at Holiday Inn Southside last fall, and was shocked to discover in February that she and Dan were among six finalist couples.
In March, a panel of seven judges interviewed the finalists over two days, according to Celebration Creations’ Kerri Green.. The questions ranged from the silly (“Did you cry when you saw The Notebook?”) to the serious (“What is the best piece of marriage advice you learned from your parents?”) “Just agree with whatever she says,” joked Dan. Jessica’s answer was a little more serious. “Communication is huge,” she said. Please See LUCKY, B3

They were announced as winners at the revealing party on April 27. “They announced us by date first,” Jess said. “None of us had that date, so we thought there had been a mistake – they called our names, and we were completely shocked.” The ceremony is planned for Nov. 17, the night of the Leonid meteor shower – 1,000 meteors will fall every hour, lending the wedding to a “vintage, ‘Starry
Night’ theme.” Even their three-tiered, raspberry-filled vanilla cake donated by Kelly Banks, will be a tribute to Van Gogh’s famous piece. Jessica has already picked out her dress, donated by Rainbow’s End, and her four bridesmaids will wear teal, and the invitations will also be decorated with the night sky. “We’re hoping for a clear night so everyone can go outside and go stargazing,” said Dan. to the judge’s most serious question – why did they want to get married? “As long as I’ve known her, I never wanted to be away from Jess,” Dan said. “We know this is forever,” she said. “Why not share it with everyone we love?” Kerri Green said Rainbow’s End’s Norah Doyle suggested the contest, which a friend of hers in the bridal field had done elsewhere. Kerri agreed to line up sponsors – 22 businesses contributed goods and services – and found a lot of enthusiasm: “Everyone said ‘yes’ right off the bat.” Kerri will continue to advise the lucky couple: “I’m working with them on the time line.” Interviewed Monday, June 11, she reported just that day she, Jessica and Dan visited the Holiday Inn to begin discussing the arrangements.

Fitness Tip Of The Week by
Body By Stacy
Eating nutritously and the importance of CARBS In order to maintain or lose weight, we need to feed our bodies with the proper balance of nutrients. Part of this balance includes CARBS. Yes, CARBS! If you are going for weight loss, you reduce your carb intake (not get rid of it). If you are looking to stay where you are, you continue to use your carbs effectively. Carbs come in many different varieties including whole grain foods like cereal, breads, oats, beans, and much more. These are things your body will look for in order to burn calories... it without necessary “effective” carbs, your body will hold on to whatever you ARE feeding it, and not use for your calorie burn. So, your balanced diet should include carbs, protein, yes, some salt, yes, some raw sugars, and water, water, water!!! -- Remember that food pyramid?:)

Mullins, Morgan Bookend Full Season At Franklin Stage STAGE/From B1 ferences in store for this year’s audience. “Instead of one big play, we’ve co-curated a series of rehearsed readings,” she said. “I discovered over the last few years that we could be a lot more inventive with our
rehearsed readings. They afford more intimacy and people really respond.” “It’s a way for us to do a lot of plays we really love,” she added. “It’s a little laboratory – the actors are also the directors.” One of these series will
be an experimental fiveday, five-play series “On Love,” including Tennessee Williams’ “Night of the Iguana,” Noel Coward’s “Design for Living” and Tom Stoppard’s “The Real Thing.” “I’m drawn to classical
plays because the themes are so universal,” said Marner. “These are things we’ve all felt – what happens when what we think comes crashing up against the human heart? We’ve all got that in us.” There will also be a

staged reading of Phillip Pullman’s “His Dark Materials,” featuring both adult and child actors. The big show of the season is “The Way of the World.” “It’s a huge, sprawling production,” she said. “It was written in the 1700s, but we’re setting it in the 1950s – ‘La Dolce Vita’ meets Palm Springs.” Molly Moxner, who directed last year’s tragedy, “The Trojan Women,” will also be directing “The Way of the World.” “It’s a good release,” Marner said. “It does have a dark underbelly, like all the comedies we choose, but it’s also hilarious.” “The Trojan Women” received such rave reviews that it will premier a onemonth run, with most of the original cast, in New York City’s West Village. “That show has such obvious resonance,” she said. “There’s a real thrust to bring that story out.” Marner, who has appeared on film in “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Mission Impossible,” as well as multiple productions with Franklin Stage and other theater companies, said she
might do some of the readings, but will not be starring as she did in last year’s “Blithe Spirit” and “Trojan Women.” “Once we started this theater, it changed my whole perspective on what felt satisfying as an actor,” she said. Tom Morgan’s “A Coda: The Final Tales from the Empire,” will be the season’s coda as well. The retired investment counselor and syndicated columnist will present his fourth – and final – one-man show on his experiences operating Gilbertsville’s Empire House Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 8-9. The theater has also undergone a transformation, with a stage built out into the audience instead of the four-sided pit stage audiences have watched in past two seasons. “Last summer everyone was looking in, now everyone is looking up,” she said. The lobby will also host two art installations – by Zena Garbo and Sara Suns. But, as always, the shows will be free and open to the public. “Everyone deserves great art,” she said. “No matter who you are.”
