Brave New World, an exhibit featuring the works of artists Lewis Danielski and Michael Federov, opened at The Art Garage on Beaver Meadow Road in Middlefield on Saturday, August 20. In Brave New World, Mr. Danielski presents a range of work along with artist Michael Fedorov. Mr. Danielski grew up in Indonesia, but his grandparents were long-time Cooperstown residents, so he spent many summers and holi days in the region. Join the Art Garage as the artists talk about processes, media, and techniques. They will also discuss some of the themes in their work: home, queerness, empathy and growing up.
New Exhibit at The Art Garage
On Saturday, September 17 from noon to 2 p.m., artist Michael Fedorov will visit The Art Garage for an informal meet and greet and he will discuss his work, life and artistic vision with visitors. The show is open on Saturdays through September. Admission is free.

There Is Still Time to Enjoy the Lake
For people who own their own boats, this time of year is generally when they begin to taper down their activity after a long summer of many days on the water, but for those who don’t have a boat of their own it is an excel lent time to rent one from one of the local boat rental operations. From fast-moving power boats, to spacious pontoon boats, to kayaks and canoes, numerous local rental opportunities exist.
Norman Rockwell has been organized by the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Media sponsorship has been provided by Curtis Licensing, a division of The Saturday Evening Post.

Perhaps the most wide-ranging selection of watercraft, and the only full-service operation physically located on the fabled Glimmerglass, is Sam Smith’s Boat Rentals, located at the boatyard of the same name, 2 ½ miles up the lake on State Route 80.
Time Out Boat Rentals has a fleet of three pontoon boats of various sizes that can accommodate from 8 to 18 passengers and can also provide canoes, kayaks and paddleboards. To check availability and reservation details, call Gerry at 607-287-7737. Continued on page 5
Sam Smith’s watercraft rentals include kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, fishing boats, cruisers and large and small pontoon boats, all available by the hour, day(s) or week(s) with a 2-hour minimum on all motorboats. All bookings are completed online at samsmithsboat yard.com or bluemingogrill.com. Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Sam Smith’s Boatyard is also home to the popular waterside dining spot The Blue Mingo Grill as well as clothing and gift shops to round out your day.

Tara Barnwell Publisher Pop’s Place 4347 State Hwy 28, Milford A great place to take the kids to run around and unwind, Pop’s Place is on Rte. 28 between Cooperstown and Milford. They have outdoor seating, a pond, and some large open fields that would be great for the kids to run around, play a ball game and release some energy after a long drive.Itserves fast food — eggs, pancakes, and sausage for breakfast; burgers and sand wiches for lunch or dinner; and ice cream as well. The most memorable thing about them is their ice cream. They have a wide variety of flavors available, and several styles to serve them in. I stopped in the other day for their Brownie Sundae. I chose the Cookie Dough ice cream with chocolate chips for the base and it came with brownies, hot fudge, whipped topping, and even had a cherry on top. The serving was large and I loved every second of scooping out the ice cream with some fudge and whipped cream and the occa sional bite of the brownies. The brownies were very soft and almost stuck to my teeth. I will definitely be going back for more before the summer is over.
The owner of Upstate Bar and Grill, Joe Vezza, took an old restaurant on Rte. 28 in Cooperstown and trans formed it into a delightful family restaurant and bar a few years ago. In the main dining room there are huge televisions where it’s great to watch a sports event, the bar area also has TVs and is usually jammed with happy people having great drinks with friends. There is also a fire pit outside where you can sit around and relax. Now for the food, every thing is good there. I started with the Southwestern salad. It’s a blend of corn, peppers, salsa, cheddar/jack cheese, avocado, fried tortillas with a spicy ranch. It’s enough for two to share if you are getting another dish. They have very creative burgers, my favorite is the Black, Bleu and Shroom Burger. It’s got bleu cheese, bacon, crimini mushrooms, pearl onions with truffle mayo. Delicious and it comes with fries. If you go there for dinner, they have some nice steaks from Delmonico to a Strip, plus ribs and chicken dishes. There is something for everyone at Upstate Bar and Grill.
