2014 OFFROAD COLLECTION
LIVING LEGEND The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) of Enduro, 13-time Enduro World Champion, two time AMA GNCC Champion, Juha Salminen is hanging his enduro boots, bringing an end to a 18 year professional career, which he by the way started in YOKO gear.
JUHA SALMINEN Juha is known for his structured training, effortles riding style but also for his super friendly personality. Despite all of his success, Juha has always kept it real. Along with his riding, that’s probably what has made him such a legendary champion and earned him thousands of fans around the world. Eventhough his days at the EWC might be done, we’re sure, well be seeing him riding and competing in some form of two or four wheels racing. Thanks Juha!
Erki Kahro
> 2013 MX2 Finnish Champion
Estonian Erki Kahro really wants to ride. All season 2013, Erki and his dad have been driving around Europe in their compact Mecedes Vito van (sometimes even sleeping in it) racing all the rounds of Estonian and Finnish Championships. Added to that, he raced the Finnish MX GP in MX2 class and scored World Championship points. Somehow he also found time to travel to USA (not with the van) to race an AMA National at Southwick, where he also scored a couple of AMA National points. In September he will be representing Estonia in the MX Of Nations in Germany. In the Finnish Championships he grabbed the MX2 title and ended up 2nd in the MX1 class.
Eeli Takatalo One of the most naturally talented riders in Finland, in 2013 Eeli Takatalo made Finnish motocross history by becoming the first Finnish rider to race the AMA National series. Though, the ride was rougher than anyone had expected, especially when Eeli had to sit out the first four rounds due to a shoulder injury he received just before the opening round. Still, qualifying for the motos on four rounds of the six he entered, was a good accomplishment. Here’s to hoping that Eeli will be back in the US in 2014, showing his true potential.
Miska Aaltonen
> 2013 Vet 35 Finnish Cup Champion > 2013 Vet World Championship Bronze medalist
Brightest Finnish motocrosser in the GPs throughout the 90’s, after retiring from professional racing more than ten years ago, Miska Aaltonen is still pretty good at twisting the throttle. After clinching the 2013 Vet 35 Finnish Cup in dominatign fashion, the man from Turku travelled to Matterley Basin, Great Britain and took bronze in the Vet World Championship race, leaving behind legendary names.
A GOOD YEAR 2013 was a good year for YOKO as far as domestic titles and international success are conserned. We were also part of Finnish motocross history that was made all the way on the other side of the Atlantic.
Toni Eriksson > 2013 MX1 Finnish Champion > 2013 Supercross Finnish Champion > 2013 A3 Finnish Enduro Champion > 2013 GNCC Finnish Champion Although riding and racing mainly just for the fun of it, Toni Eriksson has been the work horse of Finnish motocross for the last five years, racking up titles in motocross and enduro year after year. For 2013 Toni set himself a goal of capturing three Finnish motocross titles, one enduro title and one GNCC title. And that’s just what he did.
Jenni Valkama, came to our team as a pattern master, but as we quickly noticed her awesome design skills, she quickly ended up with the main responsibility of the designs of our street and snowmobile products. It goes without saying, that she also does patterns and protos for most of the products she designs. Jenni rides a 800cc Yamaha FZ8-N.
Seppo Manninen, 28, a passionate motocrosser since 4 years old, has raced the Finnish A class for over ten years. He has also tried his hand in some international supercross and World Championship races. One thing to be proud of, he is the last rider to ever race a 500cc two stroke in the GPs (MX3, 2011). Soon-to-graduate Industrial Designer, Seppo has been designing motocross, street and snowmobile gear for the last six years. Along with the feedback from our sponsored riders, everytime new proto samples arrive, Seppo heads out to the track to test how they work and how they could be improved. Seppo rides a Honda CR125, CRF250R and a CRF450.
Heli Lehtola, the “grand ol’ mama” and senior pattern master of our team. Heli is responsible for the excellent fit of our products and she actually makes the initial prototypes here in the workshop before they are sent to factory. Heli rides a 900cc Triumph Thruxton!
Anni Jokinen. Master Of Science In Textile Technology (Tampere University of Technology) is always in search of new innovative materials, but she also frequently checks and makes sure that the quality of the materials used in our products is always up to par. Anni is also the pain in the ass for the freight companies and customs as she takes care of the logistics of our products. Anni just sold her Kawasaki ER-5, but she’s still a biker at heart.
BEHIND THE SCENES Our small, yet effective YOKO crew in Finland consists of racers and bikers, who truly are passionate about the products they create.
Ari Viiri, 54, a former Factory Maico and Factory KTM rider was a regular podium guy in the 250cc GPs during the 1980’s. Ari was there when Yoko was founded in 1977 and is still here as we push forward. Ari has pretty solid experience in motorcycle garment industry. After his riding career he went on to run the legendary Finnish factory, that produced motocross gear for all the major gear brands in the early 90’s. Nowadays Ari is the YOKO brand manager keeping the crew in tight leash (not really) managing product lines, purchase and sales. Ari hung his boots from professional racing in the late 80’s and hasn’t ridden pretty much at all since. That’s just weird, but it should tell something about his determination.
