SITE 1
The Burj Khalifa is lthe tallest building in the world, and is ocated in downtown Dubai. The building has a view of the Dubai Fountain (shown in blue), the city, and the Persian Gulf in the distance.
The structure is composed of 3 main wings: GROCERY, RESIDENTIAL, AND STAFF.
The numbered almond shapes are entrances for tenants, customers, and staff.

1033 E. Walnut is a historical building on the outskirts of Columbia, Missouri’s arts district. The arts district is full of life and character, as it is home to many art galleries, coffee shops, and cafe’s.
As both locals and visitors frequent the area, it is an opportune place for change. The building will better serve the coomunity as a high end boutique hotel, with an additional coffee bar that transforms into a cocktail bar in the evenings.

PROBLEM SOLVING
Surrounding the building are art galleries, apartments, and small businesses. The north side will be used as the main guest entrance for convenient parking, while the south entrance will be used to enter the coffee bar.

THE CONCEPT OF DUALITY Opposing elements combine to create opposition and tension that result in dynamic spaces that serve both guests and locals.

LOWER LEVEL LOBBY The lower lobby is a celebration of the arts, complete with a gallery and eclectic furnishings.
A grand staircase encourages flow between the gallery and coffee bar on the floor above.
The furniture chosen adds an eclectic and unique touch to the lower lobby, indicative of Columbia’s arts district. A primary color palette and a mix of patterns evokes a sense of playfulness and youth.

COFFEE BAR The coffee bar acts as a traditional coffee shop during the day, and turns into a swanky cocktail bar at night that specializes in espresso cocktails. This dual-purpose space reflects the project’s concept, and allows the space to be open for a longer amount of time.
The furniture chosen reflects the color palette in the lower lobby, to develop continuity between spaces. A focus on saturation, pattern, and tension between elements.
GROUND FL COFFEE SHOP TO COCKTAIL BAR The 1st floor is a coffee shop that transforms into a cocktail bar at night. Specialty coffee cocktails provide continuity within the shop and provides a unique experience.
PEDESTRIAN ENTRANCE Entrance convenient for locals and pedestrians to enter the coffee bar.

GUEST SUITES The guest suites are grounded in primary colors, moody lighting, and warm textures. The guest suites include a semi-recessed balcony, a dry bar, ample closet storage, and a large seating area.
The furniture chosen reflects the color palette in the lower lobby, but on a more muted scale. A focus on texture and moody tones evokes personality, while remaining relaxed and approachable.
