une 3 was the big day for the senior class at Menlo-Atherton High School, whose members picked up their diplomas during a 4 p.m. graduation ceremony. Courtney Arrington, the senior class president, led the pledge of allegiance to the flag, which had been carried onto the football field by U.S. Marines. The singing of the national anthem followed, led by the school choir under the direction of Patrick Maier.

Senior Kahdijah Ali welcomed the gathering of students, parents, relatives and friends and gave a speech entitled “God’s Gift.” The speeches that followed were, respectively, “Lift-off 2010!” by Maya Lozinski, “To Underclassmen, Love Senior,” by Deonte McCall Jr., “Greatness: Starting From the Kitchen Sink,” by Ms. Arrington, and “A Note on Growing Up,” by Josh Hubert. After a recognition of foreign exchange

students, the assembly heard remarks by Principal Matthew Zito, who then presented the class to Don Gibson, a board member of the Sequoia Union High School District, and assistant superintendent and soon-to-be superintendent James Lianides. M-A staff chosen by the Class of 2010 handed diplomas to graduates as their names were called. With that, and with mortarboard tassels adjusted to reflect the seniors’ new

status, the event drew to a close. Graduates A Joanna Acosta, Zachariah O. Adham, Bryce Alexander Aebi, Hasti Sara Afsarifard, Maria Celerina Alejandre, Kahdijah A. SUNGLASS TINTS

Gray tints are the most popular choices for sunglasses in this country. Because it maintains an even balance throughout the color spectrum, gray is recommended for those who value balanced color. When there is a need to increase visual contrast, brown may be a better choice. Through brown lenses, shades of blue are reduced and greens become more predominant. Their improved contrast provides a slightly better sense of road surface, and they are a good choice for anyone who does a lot of driving.

Much like brown, green tints provide improved contrast over gray without shifting too much of the color balance. When enhanced contrast between colors without much reduction of visible light is desirable, yellow is a good choice. Sunglasses are a customize product that should meet the facial construction and personal taste of the wearer. In addition to sunglasses lending you an air of mystery, they can also help prevent eye problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration. Visit MENLO OPTICAL at 1166 University Drive, on the corner of Oak Grove Avenue and University Drive, to browse through our display of sunglasses in various shapes and sizes. We carry both prescription and non-prescription lenses. Call us at 322-3900. P.S. While gray is the preferred color for sunglasses in this country by a wide margin, brown is far more popular in Europe and the rest of the world. Mark Schmidt is an American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners Certified Optician licensed by the Medical Board of California.
