is dedicated to the relentless pursuit of brain protection. 6D was named “Product of the Year” by three major off-road publications in 2013 and awarded 5 out of 5 stars by Motocross Action Magazine. Working with the GEICO Honda team and all of their riders has been incredible. But most rewarding of all, is the growing list of testimonials from racers that have crashed in their 6D helmet and taken the time to write to us to describe their personal experience and thanks. To witness what we learned in the laboratory transition effectively to riders in the real world has been extremely gratifying. ANGULAR ACCELERATION ENERGY Experiments conducted by David C. Viano, PhD. M.D. and the Bioengineering Center at Wayne State University confirmed that a helmeted head sustained the same degree of angular acceleration as the un-helmeted head when subjected to identical impacts. So, if angular acceleration is the major cause of concussion and brain injury, then how is the brain protected by traditional helmet technology? Unfortunately in the aspect of angular acceleration it is not. All crash impacts generate angular acceleration force at some level on the brain. Angular acceleration energy causes the brain to spin, sheer, and rotate within the skull potentially injuring the brain if the forces are severe. 6D’s ODS technology works to mitigate angular acceleration energy force; there by reducing the likelihood of concussion or brain injury.

LOW-THRESHOLD ENERGY (LOW-VELOCITY IMPACTS)*** Medical research has provided alarming conclusions surrounding the causes, severity, and long-term effects of concussions. We now know that even seemingly minor concussions (‘I’m fine, I just rang my bell’) may have much more serious effects on the long-term health and well being of one’s brain. It is well documented that concussions occur from impacts in the range of 60 G’s** in the adult male and may be location dependent. This value is even lower in women and children. A 4m/sec impact is equivalent to roughly 120 G’s being transferred to the brain in most current model Snell or ECE approved off-road helmets. That’s 100% more than the energy required to sustain a concussion in an adult male! What makes this even more alarming is the fact that current helmet testing standard’s only require impact testing at high-velocities above 6 meters per second. These are extremely high-velocity strikes. *** 6D classifies ‘Low threshold energy’ as energy values equal or less than 4m/s (meters per second) as measured on traditional linear helmet testing equipment.
