Throughout human recorded history, the principle of giving as a means to receiving is age-long. Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek - known as The King of Salem (later Jerusalem). Of his own volition, Abraham willingly gave a tenth of all he had taken from the battlefield to Melchizedek - the Priest of the Most High God. It was a voluntary act. It was the first act of tithing as recorded in the Bible. It is an obvious fact that to this day, every believer prays to partake and receive of 'Abraham's Blessings.' It is indeed every believer's gain: It is God's covenant with His children. To receive it, any believer would have to do what Abraham did. He first gave before he received the actual blessings. We must remember that "the Lord our God, who gives us power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant, which He swore to our fathers..." - (Deuteronomy 8: 18). How are we remembering 'the Lord our God' when it comes to our finances? Fair enough, someone might think the taxman has taken his own before we ever saw our payslips. Do we then think the rest is for us to do just as we might wish? Have we forgotten that it is the Lord our God Who gave us the privilege to be able to work? The scripture says the earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof... Our job, our happiness, and our wealth, all belong to God. He has given them to us freely, that we may use them to glorify His name. Christian giving starts from tithing - giving a tenth of our income. The Lord shall command the blessing upon you in your storehouse and in all that you undertake' - (Deuteronomy 28: 8) - He goes further to say: "and the Lord shall make you have a surplus of prosperity, through the fruit of your body, of your livestock, and of your ground..." (Deut. 28: 11). With these promises, God cannot lie. He is not a man that He should fail in any of His promises. The devil uses unfaithfulness to create doubt in the minds of believers. These (fear and doubt) keep God's children constantly away from their righteous promises of abundant blessings their heavenly Father The Lord is faithful concerning His promises. He does not change. The Lord our Provider has assured that if we walk in His ways and delight (and desire) in the law of the Lord, we will be like a "tree firmly planted" and tended by the streams of water, ready to bring its fruit in its season. He also assures that 'everything' Christians do, they shall prosper and come to maturity - Psalm 1: 2, 3
Children of God - to excel in whatever vocation we desire is our God-given right, covenant, and promise. The Lord our God is forever faithful in His promises. He cannot fail. Some of us have the erroneous conception that any tithe or offering is an additional burden to their financial commitments. This is Satan's lie and deception. The way the Lord God orders His blessing is in miraculous ways. If we diligently do our businesses honestly, the Lord is faithful to surprise us with His blessings. We shall not lack any good thing, Amen. Do you think the money given in the collection/offering bag is for the Vicar? This is equally wrong. Anything you sacrifice - even if you give a personal gift to any of God's servants - such a sacrifice is taken account of by Your Heavenly Father. He will surely reward you in unexpected ways. The Scripture says that 'The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek the Lord, none of them shall lack any beneficial thing.' How do you seek the Lord? Are you paying lip service to seeking Him or are you trusting Him with the increase of your substances? Remember: That you are alive today is not because you are smarter those who are dead. It is the grace of God. Worship the Lord your God with your substances. Hear the word of the Lord: "Bring all the tithes - the whole tenth of your income - into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it." The Lord our God has challenged us to trust Him with our substances - that He will 'open the windows of heaven' for us. Why would we work ourselves out if our God has graciously promised to provide beyond our expectations? In the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, He cautioned about how to give: When you give to charity, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your deeds of charity may be in secret, and your Father Who sees in secret will reward you openly - Matthew 6: 3, 4. The idea behind discreet giving is to allow God take the glory. Anything we as Christians do must point the glory to our Heavenly Father. If we try to take the glory, then we may as well forget the abundant blessing due us from God. In the Gospel according to St Luke, our Lord Jesus Christ advised that children of God should give, and in good measure too, saying that it is with the measure you deal out to others it will be measured back to you - Luke 6: 38 When the Angel of God visited Cornelius, a centurion (Army Captain) in Italian Regiment - the Angel said to him: "Your prayers and your (generous) gifts to the poor have come up - as a sacrifice - to God and have been remembered by Him." - Acts 10: 4 - This is it. People who openly deny knowing God are receiving the blessings from Him - just because of their heart's attitude. Why would we professed children of God not benefit from the promises of our Heavenly Father? Would Greed, shortsightedness,
faithlessness, or other devices of Satan be allowed to prevent us from the God-given blessings? Take time to study the biographies of world's most successful people - Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Warren Buffet, Allan Sugar - just to mention a few - and you see a demonstration of 'aggressive giving' in action. They give, and most of the time, they do it discreetly. The Lord is no respecter of persons. So, He multiplies their gifts and rewards them abundantly even as they are giving, they become richer the more. Why are we who proclaim God's name not benefiting from His blessings? The Scripture teaches that he who loves his neighbour - who practices loving others - has fulfilled the law - Acts 13: 8 We cannot be grumpy about giving: The Scripture warns that 'He who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously will also reap generously and with blessings.' Let each one (give) as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver - II Corinthians 9: 6, 7 In Paul's letter to the Philippians, he stressed that"...God will liberally supply your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4: 19 A child of God who diligently studies and applies the principles of the word of God daily in his life has every reason to rejoice. Challenges may come: but the Lord is faithful in His words. If you diligently follow His ways, He will surely stand by you. You shall not lack any good thing - in Jesus' name, Amen.
