YOUR PARTNER FOR BIKE PARK AND TRAIL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

WHAT IS A BIKEPARK? A bike park is a piece of land that is dedicated for off-road bike riding. Bike parks can include: • Pump Tracks – a continuous circuit of dirt rollers, berms and jumps that loops back on itself allowing you to ride it continuously with little to no pedaling. • Skills Courses – off-road style obstacles and terrain which require technical skills. A condensed area of terrain that most mountain bikers come across on a normal ride. • Cross-Country Trails – narrow dirt trails that combine natural and man-made surfacing. Great for exercise and all types of riders. • Free-ride Zones – an area of dirt jumps and features focusing on tricks, style and technical riding. • Gravity Trails – man-made trails that follow the downhill slope with berms, jumps and obstacles with little pedaling necessary. A bike park can contain one, two or several of these riding styles and areas to create a dynamic bike park that meets the needs of all riders.

WHY A BIKEPARK? With over 57 million people riding bikes in North America the need for communities to have safe, progressive and controlled riding areas is huge! The health benefits of riding bicycles is well documented in combating obesity and nature deficit disorder in children. Bike parks also allow riders of all ages and skill levels to participate, strengthening family and community bonds. Bike parks can be integrated into existing park systems, multi-use trails, beside skate parks or on vacant lands. Many design and budget options are available so communities of all kinds can have a bike park of their own!

GAGE BIKE PARK DIRT PUMPTRACK

THE POWELL RIVER

Alpine Bike Parks designed and built The Gage Bike Park Pumptrack incorporating a small beginner pumptrack and a more advanced intermediate pumptrack design. The pumptrack caters to inner city youth and is a great example of what these types of project can produce. Within the first week of the parks use, Eco-Counters tallied up 47,000 tires rolling over the pumptrack. The pumptrack is constructed of dirt and the pilot project will be assessed to determine the potential future implementation of other pumptracks in the city of Hamilton, Ontario.

The concrete pumptrack in Powell River is the first of its kind in North America. Pouring a concrete pumptrack eliminates maintenance and gives park users an un-parrelled riding experience. The pumptrack layout is symmetrical and allows for head-to-head style racing starting from a slanted start gate. This type of concrete pumptrack stands as a bench mark for other parks to follow and is a great example of what the future of pumptracks has in store.

SPECIALIZED HQ ASPHALT PUMPTRACK Specialized Bicycles approached Alpine Bike Parks with the vision of building a network of trails around its corporate campus that would enhance office bike culture, while also providing cycling links between its many buildings, like the Global Headquarters and the Wind Tunnel. The goal of Alpine Bike Parks was to design and construct a selection of trails and associated landscape areas that connect buildings and bring the corporate community together on their bikes. Some of the trails are XC/CX oriented with natural surfacing, while others are paved and deliver pump track flow. The trails are surfaced with asphalt so that they can be precisely sculpted, plus be rideable year-round with minimal maintenance. SIZE: SCOPE:
