I have always said that dance games go particularly well on the Wii Platform. I loved Just Dance and Wii Zumba Fitness, but...Michael Jackson and the Wii are even more perfect! In fact, at the risk of getting groaned at, they fit like a sequined glove and of course you get (a very cheap looking) one with the game! Marketing gimmick or just fun, I'm not sure, but there's no way the glove gets anywhere near to fitting me. I know they have to do these things but the disclaimer not to use the glove during game play did amuse me...yes I know if you did wear the glove the Wii remote is more likely to slip out, but...wear the wrist band! So, what's the game like? Well the first thing I'd have to say is that Michael Jackson and gameland are just such a great fit. And I don't think anyone would argue about the uniqueness of what MJ produced. As I said though, the Wii platform really brings this heady mix together so wonderfully well. I think the test of a good game is how easy it is to get playing and how quickly you can become reasonably proficient. MJ the Experience passes on all levels as you'll be dancing and singing along very quickly. And, it really is a great feeling once you're up and dancing. Sadly the great Michael is not actually in the game, but it does remain so very true to his spirit and it oozes from every number. Another plus for the makers is the quality of dancer they have used...outstanding. The moves are well put together and exciting and really capture the essence of what Michael was all about. The faces of the Dancers are washed out in the graphics, but, once you're caught up in game play you don't notice and it's easy to feel, and believe, you're up there on stage with Michael dancing and singing along. I really love the attention to detail the makers have put in to Wii - Michael Jackson The Experience. A huge vote of thanks to UBI Soft on for that. The costumes and makeup are spot on and are clearly inspired by what MJ actually wore in his videos and on stage. The entire experience is essentially Michael Jackson. The entire experience is so absolutely, essentially Michael Jackson, from his amazing songs to his epic videos, everything is completely right and I am sure Michael himself would have approved big time! I don't think there are many other artists (alive or dead) who have enough true quality material to be able to offer a game of such quality. This really brings together a unique mix of music and dance that is very distinct, and very definitely MJ. In fact it requires a heady mix such as this to allow a game like this to be made. I guess that's the very reason there is nothing else like this in the game market. To produce a quality dance and music game requires something unique and few artists offer anything that comes close.
And something else that stands Michael apart is the way his dance moves have become part of modern culture. You see his moves everywhere. Across the dance floors of the world to X-Factor and America's Got Talent. The term "moonwalk" was invented to describe the iconic MJ dance move, that along with his amazing spins and twists, jumps and turns are seen in a growing band of performers influenced by the great man. The game also offers a great physical workout so you can get fit as well as enjoy yourself...I always find that helps take the pain of exercise away! Plus the moves are well laid out and made easy to learn, so the length of time taken to really get into the game and active is relatively short. Again, I like games that you can get into quickly. MJ The Experience on Wii will have you up and going in no time at all. Up to 4 people can play with a basic Wii remote, which I think is great and good value. You can see the images along the left side of the screen this allows you to cue your moves, and you also get a points tally which ticks over as you complete dance moves correctly. Executing the moves properly earns the most points, with bonus points for precision and accuracy, although you will get a few points for just trying! At the end of each number, the points are converted into stars, and they accumulate to unlock additional practice videos in the Dance School. The Dance School is hosted by 3 choreographers, but the only one I recognized was Travis Payne. On pretty much every song you can take varying roles in the dance. You can either be one of the dancers or Michael himself. It's nice to have the chance to learn both sets of moves and I like the added variation this option offers. Overall, Wii - Michael Jackson the Experience is just a brilliant dance and music game that really does capture the essence of what Michael Jackson was all about. If you're a Jackson fan and love his music and dance, then quite simply you'll love this game. But, in my opinion, it's also great fun for the casual fan as well. It's fun, exciting, a little bit emotional for MJ's true fans and exhausting after two or three routines. As we all know Michael was about to go on tour when, sadly, he lost his life. These are tough dance routines and he must have still been very fit to contemplate taking a show like this on a long tour...It really is sad that those shows never got to his fans! Perhaps in some small way Wii Michael Jackson The Experience can help make up for that and help us remember Michael after his sad loss?
