Industrial Revolution The industrial revolution prompts miners to follow a coal SEAM shaping the story of Newcastle.

Byker Bridge is built in 1878, weaving either side of the Ouseburn valley. The hemispherical form of the arches creates a running stitch across the valley. Production Industrialisation makes use of the tenets of capitalism, little-to-no safe labour laws, and lack of respect for the health of the environment enables exponentially cheaper textile production techniques.

Seam Allowance is an independent, ethical, multi-brand luxury retail experience.

What’s in a name? On the site in the 1800s, surface coal was discovered, revealing a coal seam (SEAM). Seam Allowance also refers to our practice of promoting care, repair, and rental as more signiﬁcant than simply purchasing (ALLOWANCE). Finally, it refers to the margin between the edge of the fabric and the seam, which allows the ﬁt to be adjusted (SEAM ALLOWANCE).
