What’s Essay? Essay is a short piece of writing that explain author’s opinion or argument about particular object. Essay is classified into formal and informal. Formal essay characterized by serious purpose, and logical organization. Meanwhile informal essay characterized by the personal element such as individual taste and experience, self-revelation, and confidential manner. But overall, essay is still a kind of academic paper.

A. Structure Paragraph 1 : Introduction Paragraph 2 : Body 1 Paragraph 3 : Body 2 Paragraph 4 : Body 3 Paragraph 5 : Conclusion
Introduction The principle purpose of the introduction is to present your position on the issue at hand but effective introductory paragraphs. The thesis should be a clear, onesentence explanation of your position that leaves no doubt in the reader’s mind about which side you are on from the beginning of your essay. Tips: - Try to portray the statusquo clearly - Let reader know what you are going to discuss - Try to be general dont use passive voice.
The Body Paragraph The main purpose of a body paragraph is to spell out in detail the examples that support your argument that stated in introduction. - first body paragraph you should use your strongest argument or most significant example unless some other more obvious beginning point (as in the case of chronological explanations) is required. - another body should be contain of supportive argument that correlate with the first paragraph Tips: Don’t be TOO general. More spesific
Conclusion A brief explanation of all the argument that has been explain before and should be linked back to the argument. Tips: - link back to the main argument and give solution towards the problem explained - dont copy the same sentence in the beginning of paragraph (rephrase the main topic and subtopic) - Be powerful
2. Language Use formal language Build vocabulary and use it properly Pay attention on the grammar
3. Matter Pay attention toward the the instruction. Follow all the guidelines because a good essay wont be perfect if it is not suitable with the rule Analyse the status quo, define what is the matter that you are going to discuss from the main theme, knowing the stance (where you stand) Answering question (what, who, where, when, why, how) Make a clear argument or opinion (better if you bring the data for evidence, so that it is not only assumption)
