General Elec ons (Elec ons) in Indonesia become an arena for people to make changes by choosing new leaders. With the elec on, it is hoped that these leaders can bring meaningful change to the na on and bring Indonesia to a be er place. The journey of elec ons in Indonesia itself has gone through many long transforma ons since the days of independence. Moreover, when the Indonesian people can choose their own regional heads and the President directly. Elec on trips in the independence era un l now many have experienced changes. Star ng from a large number of par es to the ups and downs of the number of par cipants in the general elec on held. Elec ons are held with the aim of elec ng representa ves of the people both at the central and regional levels of government, as well as for forming democra c, strong and gaining public support in order to realize na onal goals as mandated by the opening of the 1945 Cons tu on of the Republic of Indonesia. Elec ons carried out by the Indonesian state in the context of realizing people's sovereignty as well as the applica on of democra c principles or values, increasing poli cal awareness of the people to ac vely par cipate in elec ons to realize the ideals of democra c Indonesians. One parameter of democra c elec ons is the increasingly plural along with the increasingly complex elec ons. This means that voters are the main supporters that are very important in the democra c elec on process, in accordance with the principles of popular sovereignty. Each voter in a general elec on will not be separated from poli cal or sociological backgrounds at that me, so this is very inuen al in determining their choice, this is what is called voter behavior. We chose the topic The Elec on in our News Magazine volume 11 this me because in 2019 Indonesia will held an elec on for the presiden al elec on for the period 2019-2024, so here we want to inform readers to know anything about elec ons such as why elec ons are important and how to use our vo ng rights wisely. So our hope is that in the 2019 elec ons Indonesian people who have vo ng rights can use their vo ng rights well and can choose leaders who can lead our country Indonesia for the next 5 years. So, the aim of holding general elec ons to realize democra za on, to realize people's rights and realize people's par cipa on in poli cs to carry out educa on and poli cal development will never be achieved well.

Elections are one of the most important measures of people’s involvement in a country, because elections are the realization of popular sovereignty in choosing leaders who run the wheels of government both as heads of state and regional heads. Elections are also a means of the people to entrust their sovereignty to representatives of the people, who sit in Assembly at Provincial, Regional Representative Board and at House of Representative . Elections can be a measure of the level of people’s trust in elected representatives / leaders, either new representatives / leaders, or re-elected because they are considered successful in carrying out the mandate in the previous period. Thus, elections are an embodiment of the principle of a democratic state, namely a form of government by the people. Therefore, every citizen who has the right to vote, should be able to vote in an election. The voice of the people will determine who will sit as regional head, head of state, and representatives who sit in the legislative seat.

“If you don’t vote, you lose the right to complain.” - George Carlin

HOW USE YOUR TO

VOTE WISELY

?

We'll give you several ways to use your vote wisely, there are : a) Recognizing candidates who are in accordance with personal political aspirations In the midst of the many candidates, it is not easy to identify candidates one by one. To facilitate scrutiny, voters can begin to recognize candidates who are perceived to be in line with the political aspirations of voters in person. As for knowing political aspirations personally, voters can identify things that are personal and community needs in the implementation of state life.

VOL #

NM/FEB-19/XI/THEELECTION

11

T H E E L E C T I O N

b) Look at programs, ideas, and prospective track records After knowing personal political aspirations, voters can examine the programs and ideas offered by candidates. This step must be balanced with an observation of the candidate's track record. Do not arrive, programs offered are only in the form of promises without realization. "Sometimes the candidates can arrange sweet promises. Beautiful texts, but they have no credibility and track record to be realized." In fact, voters must also be careful of legal cases that might be a track record of candidates. That way, voters have many considerations in determining their choices. Looking for a track record of candidates in the digital era as it is today, is not difficult, voters can easily find out the curriculum vitae of prospective representatives through online media, or examine candidates' statements in a number of reports.

c) Observing candidates carried by political parties that are in line with the personal ideology If the methods above are still difficult for voters to make choices, said Titi, the solution is to look at candidates from the party who are in line with personal ideologies, then take a closer look. Demanding elites and political actors to provide good political education Elites and political actors have a moral and legal responsibility to carry out political education during the election campaign period. It is important to educate voters, and not just present controversies that have no substance. "So they actually have a responsibility to keep our public space present with educating political discourse. Not just looking for publicity that gave birth to controversy and dropped among political opponents," The public must get elaboration from elites and political actors regarding candidates, both president and vice president and legislative members. So, the public gets strong reasons why they should choose the candidates offered.

Ideally, politics and law can be described as two sides of a coin that cannot be separated but can not be separated. So there is a saying that law without politics is paralyzed, politics without illegal law. In this life, we cannot be separated from legal and political attachments. Even in the government system, this has become the basis. It can be said that the legal structure can develop in all political conďŹ gurations. Often the law is not enforced as it should because of political intervention. Such a political system turns out to cause the birth of laws that have their own character. The legal system is reected in developing politics. Of course, the law cannot be separated from politics. That in reality, certain political conditions can affect a legal product. The political inuence on the law can apply to the enforcement of the law and the characteristics of the products and the manufacturing process. Ideally, the law is made by considering the importance of realizing the values of justice. With features containing orders and prohibitions, demanding compliance and sanctions, the current law will create order and justice in the community. Here we will discuss the relationship between law and politics in Indonesia. The extent of the relationship between law and politics.

Elections in Indonesia are shown to elect candidates for the House of Representatives ( DPR ), Assembly at Provincial ( DPRD ), Leadership of Political Party at Provincial ( DPD ), and the Regional Heads and candidates for president and vice president who are directly elected by the people. Well, in 2019 we will carry out the election of presidential and vice presidential candidates and it will be held for the first time simultaneously namely legislative and executive elections. Elections are directly related to democracy. Reflecting on Law No.7 of 2017 simultaneous elections ready in 2019. political goal, namely the General Election to elect the President and Vice President and Legislative Members who will fill the parliament later. I once read an article in an online news portal (Tirto) that the number of millennial votes in the 2019 Election will reach 23-25% of the total DPT Final Voters List issued by the General Election Commission (KPU). Imagine how influential the voice of millennials would be when they used all their voting rights to determine Indonesia's leaders in the future. Also, this method of direct election applied in Indonesia is an advantage for the voters because voters have the right to determine their own "fate". Then what about ABSTAIN? ABSTAIN itself is the right of each voter and we cannot blame the person who committed the act. From all of the above, what I want to underline is actually how millennials play a further role in the 2019 Election. Not only in terms of choosing or not voting, but in terms of enforcing clean elections in accordance with the principle of LUBERJURDIL; Direct, General, Free, Secret, Honest, and Fair. Increasing maturity in politics, by supporting and criticizing whoever is elected leader, because that is what we need. This needs to be re-enforced from now on so that in the future elections in Indonesia have smart and rational voters. Viva Democracy!

Elections are one of the systems for filling political positions, which of course have strengths and weaknesses, but more than that the ELECTION in 2019 will be more competitive because the community is more selective and demands candidates to fight harder to get support. The community no longer chooses its representatives in the government or its leaders just because it participates in a majority opinion, but the community has a position and tries to find information about its candidates. This condition is c e r ta i n ly g o o d f o r o u r democratic system, but the thing that must be improved is that the information obtained by the community must be accurate and accountable so that what is consumed is not just gossip.

I think the elections in Indonesia are done directly by the people so here the people have an important role in choosing the candidates to be chosen, which is clear how to use good voting rights clearly not abstentions. Secondly, don't just choose, for example, only from the third physical point of view, it is clear that we must refer to the vision and mission that the candidate will bring because we can see where Indonesia can be brought from there.

Election is a democratic party for all Indonesian people, moreover on this occasion it coincides with the election of legislative candidates and also the election of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the period 20192024, on the occasion of the election this is also the first time the election and legislative elections indicate that this election is one of the biggest elections for the history of the Indonesian nation. we need to know because the election is the largest democratic party in Indonesia, making many stakeholders play a role and for example the General Election Commission (KPU), Election Supervisory Agency (BAWASLU), parties, and others who certainly want to realize the elections according to their principles namely (LUBERJURDIL). Ade Enaz Mappajanci ALSA LC UNIVERSITAS HASSANUDIN

The 2019 election on this occasion was attended by 16 parties, including 4 new parties, 12 previous election contestants, and plus 4 additional special Aceh regional parties. with the number of voters reaching 187.8 million voters who took part in this election. However, there are many issues that are full of importance, for example, in 2017 the DPR members unanimously voted for option A, which mainly determined the presidential threshold, 20% of the DPR seats, or 25% of nationally legitimate votes, This means that political parties can nominate the president and vice president if they occupy at least 20% of the seats in the House of Representative ( DPR ).

Fianka Aiza ALSA LC UNIVERSITAS SYIAH KUALA An election is where all the people use their rights to vote for a representative in the governmental body. It is a way for everyone to give out their opinion on who is capable to be elected as part of the governmental body, and rule certain regions. I believe it is the obligation of us the citizen to vote and give our opinion for who is right to govern us in the future years coming.

Youshua Yudha Octavianus ALSA LC In my opinion, an Election is a social contract that makes us have voting UNIVERSITAS rights or suffrage up to now & the election is from the people by the people SAM RATULANGI for the people. I think the 2019 general election experienced a setback in aspects of political culture because the political debates that took place in the debate that was seeking sensation were no longer discussing substance, ideas were rarely carried out. When such stupid things are offered to the public, the community considers it a truth because those who speak are political elites as political role models. So don't be surprised if the community is now trustworthy and focused on sensations rather than substance. So, choose people's representatives wisely for a better Indonesia, No Abstain!

Elections are an arena of contestation in a democratic system, not a competition. If contestation means there are voters who are elected and some are not selected, the contestants have chosen means that the contestants are selected, the contestants who have not selected means that the contestants are not selected. Unlike the competition, if the competition is a match, there are two or more parties competing, the nature of the match is looking for champions, meaning that in each competition will produce champions, there are those who win and there are those who lose. The election is a democracy in Indonesia to choose contestants, meaning elections are not a competition between candidates, this is where we stand, no contest there are winners and losers, those who are elected and not elected. For that reason, it is expected that the term win loses in the election, we get rid of far away, we use selected and unelected terms, so that the elected people can carry out the people's mandate as well as possible in building and promote and prosper the community, while those who are not elected can immediately join in by participating and contributing by supporting the chosen ones. I encourage all communities, in the election of the President and Vice President, we will express slogans ready to be ready and ready to support the elected. With these slogans, no one feels winning and losing so that the reconciliation of all parties in the post-election period can be as short as possible. so that we can maintain peace, unity as well as harmony in the life of the nation in the Unitary Republic of Indonesia. Thus, anyone who is elected can immediately implement development programs and who are not or have not been elected, can support by suggesting programs launched during the campaign period, all of which it remains in a single principle or goal, namely to build a nation towards a prosperous and prosperous society.

Democratic Party or can be called General Election (Election) is a substantial thing for a country that adheres to the principles of democracy and elections as well as an instrument to determine the direction of public policy. Election track records in Indonesia began in 1955, 1955,1971, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. Executive and legislative officials alternately filled the vacancies of certain political positions, until not felt in 2019 later the democratic party in Indonesia was again present and the first time a presidential and legislative election was held simultaneously after reformation. The thing that is very flexible in elections is easily provoked by hoaxes and influenced by black campaigns, really unfortunate when a party is damaged by things that are not good and makes the track record of Indonesian elections deteriorating. We as young generation, especially students of the faculty of law, must fortify ourselves so that we are not easily provoked, by ensuring that information sources are valid and donot accept anything as a form of support for one of the candidates.

Political polarization in society, when citizens are divided into two poles opposite an issue, policy, or ideology, has shaped the face of Indonesian politics lately. We need to understand that presidential elections are routine rituals in a democracy to determine and guarantee periodic changes to national leaders. So, if the presidential election is held in 2019 (again), this is not something special. This kind of momentum must occur in every country that upholds the values of democracy, including in Indonesia. Polarization will be even stronger if the 2019 Presidential Election is followed by only two contestants. Because, with only two contestants, all political forces will be polarized into two poles. Everyone with different backgrounds will fight to defend each other's choices face to face. So that the presidential election will not only be the contestation of two candidates with their respective political resources, but also the fight of two ideologies and even two different streams.

Election is a big event held by every democratic country. With the spirit of democracy that is said to be said to be a people's party held in Indonesia, in the beginning, Indonesia did not know democracy fully since the fall of the new order. The election will later produce figures of national leaders who are sovereign in carrying out their duties to represent the people, with the utmost democracy the prospective leaders advance themselves to participate in the democratic party which will be carried out later in the 2019 political year. Of course, the spirit of democracy must be accompanied by justice, honesty, and not dropping each other. Often due to thirst for power, the democratic process is given spices to uphold one candidate pair. All Indonesian people certainly hope that more democracy, especially the implementation of elections, can run in a conducive manner and can produce good results for Indonesia's future.

"Negara Republik Indonesia ini bukan milik sesuatu golongan, bukan milik sesuatu agama, bukan milik sesuatu suku, bukan milik sesuatu golongan adat-istiadat, tetapi milik kita semua dari Sabang sampai Merauke!" (Soekarno dalam Kongres Rakyat Jawa Timur di Surabaya, 24 September 1955) In the end, that's what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or a politics of hope? Actively participate! Make your choice!

Harry Azhar Aziz ALSA LC In Article 22E of the 1945 Constitution, it explains in general what elections are, but there are differences between elections held in UNIVERSITAS ANDALAS Indonesia, namely simultaneous elections in 2019. Elections simultaneously bring their own dynamics and potential considering that Indonesia has not experienced the simultaneous election of legislative elections and presidential elections simultaneously. , well this is where the role of youth is very important, youth must be politically and legally literate to be able to accompany the course of elections, youth must contribute to improving the system in this country because one day they will be the main locomotives of big things in this nation.

Arthano ALSA LC UNIVERSITAS PADJAJARAN

Implementation of General Elections in 2019 is the first general election held in Indonesia simultaneously for presidential and legislative elections. In principle, this looks good because it can save time and costs and reduce political tensions that drag on because if the election is carried out, the executive and legislative branches can immediately work on their programs. But there are a little irregularity in the implementation, namely for the presidential and vice presidential elections, presidential and vice presidential candidates determined by the party winning the previous election with a threshold of 20%. What becomes strange is that if the presidential and vice presidential party bearers do not win seats in this simultaneous election, the elected president will not get support from the parliament because his party has failed to enter parliament. That way in the holding of the General Election this time, which in 2019 must be carried out properly where we as students who become one of the most important depositors of this year use our right to vote responsibly.

Aryan Dwi Pamuji Elections are basically an annual democratic party that is useful for ALSA LC selecting people's representatives and national leaders organized by the UNIVERSITAS JEMBER relevant authorities, where the election is expected to be able to make the Indonesian nation even better with the presence of new representatives and leaders. Then with the existence of free, confidential, direct, public, honest and fair electoral principles (LUBERJURDIL), it is hoped that elections can become a festive, healthy and democratic party to become a democratic country. In addition, elections are expected to be a moment to determine the leaders of our choice according to their conscience and rationality, each of which is expected to bring prosperity to the people during the next period.

One of the obliga ons in Ebeg staging is the availability of offerings or sans. Offerings are used for offerings to spirits and rulers of spirits around to want to support the performance. Besides that, Ebeg is considered as a cultural art that is truly original from Banyumasan, considering that there is absolutely no influence from other cultures. It is different from Wayang which is an apprecia on of Indian Hindu culture with various characters. Ebeg does not tell a certain character at all and is not influenced by a par cular religion, both Hindu and Islamic. In fact, in the songs, it tells a lot about the lives of tradi onal people, some mes containing rhymes, living words and telling about the art of Ebeg itself. The songs sung in the Ebeg show almost en rely use the Banyumasan Javanese language or commonly called Ngapak complete with its dis nc ve accent. Rarely is there an Ebeg song that uses Javanese lyrics in Mataraman and languages other than Banyumasan. Some examples of songs on Ebeg that are o en sung are Sekar Gadung, Eling-Eling, Banyumasan Ricik-Ricik, Tole-Tole, Waru D oyo n g , A n a M a n i n g M o d e l e Wo n g Purbalingga, and others. The effect is that ebeg players will experience trance or possession which in Banyumas language is called mendem because it is possessed by spirits. It was at this me that ebeg players used to eat various unusual items such as broken glass (shard), offerings flowers, peel coconuts with teeth, eat rice from the stem, eat dhedek (katul), embers, and others. This demise indicates that the ebeg player is showing that he is a strong Satria. At the end of the fight, possessed players will be cured by the leader of the Ebeg group, who is usually an indigenous elder and called by the term 'embosser'. It should be noted t h a t n o t o n l y E b e g p l ay e rs c a n b e possessed. O en mes the audience was also braking so that it further enlivened the Ebeg performance. When players and some viewers are possessed, performances become a li le more chao c and brutal. Some mes people who are possessed dance in front of music players and ask for good music. If the music stops then the player will stop dancing. INDONESIA i s a d e m o c r a t i c c o u n t r y, but has Indonesia ever carried out elections that fit well and correctly? In the first election in 1955, state officials, the State Civil Apparatus, the Indonesian National Army (TNI) / Republic of Indonesia Police (POLRI) were allowed to use their voting rights without binding rules to be neutral. That is, all citizens may choose to be partisan. Organized under Law No. 7 of 1953, the election at that time was the aim to elect members of the House of Representatives and constituent members. Election organizers at that time were ad hoc, and there was no special body that had the role and function of overseeing elections.

Facts in the historical record of elections in Indonesia, the 1955 elections were considered as very democratic and quality elections. There are no allegations of siding with the government. There were no election participants accused of conspiring with the organizers, there were no accusations to the organizers of inflating votes or other fraud. The principle of elections at that time was honest, general, shared, confidential, free, and direct, judged to be carried out flawlessly and running as expected. The results were accepted by the losers without various protests, let alone looking for various reasons to protest the results.
