Personal Pronouns 1 (Subjective) I am / You are … : He / She is … :
I am Susie. You are Brian. He is a teacher. She is a smart girl.
We use personal pronouns when we refer to people. ‘I’, ‘you’, ‘he’ and ‘she’ are personal pronouns. Personal pronouns are used with the verb ‘to be’ (‘is’ , ‘are’), which can be shortened into a contraction. For example, we can write ‘I am’ as ‘I’m’, ‘you are’ as ‘you’re’, ‘he is’ as ‘he’s’ and ‘she is’ as ‘she’s’. • • • •
I’m good at Mathematics. You’re good at English. You are my cousins. Ben is my friend. He’s seven years old. Susie is pretty. She’s very kind.
Check!

12 years old.
2. You
a good doctor.
3. Tom
my best friend.
We are … : They are … :
We are at the beach. We’re happy. They are my grandparents. They’re old.
For a group of people that includes ‘I’, the personal pronoun ‘we’ is used. For a group of people that does not include ‘I’, the personal pronoun ‘they’ is used. We use ‘are’ for both ‘we’ and ‘they’. We can also write ‘we are’ as ‘we’re’ and they are’ as ‘they’re’. • Tom and I are in the same classroom. We are classmates. • Sally and Jill are sisters. They’re very close. Check!
Rewrite the highlighted words as ‘We’ or ‘They’. 1. My parents are in the living room.

A house has a door. It has a roof, too. One day, a door and a roof

Then the walls speak. “You’re both right,” the walls say. “What?” the roof and door ask. “You’re both right,” the walls say again. “You’re both important. The roof is important. The door is important. And we – the walls – are important, too. We hold up the roof.”
