Why Recycling is Needed

Why Recycling is Needed Today There are still people wondering should recycling be mandatory. The answer is yes, for many reasons. Conserve Natural Resources When people don’t recycle, companies are forced to create new products from resource materials, which get depleted. Consider paper; if people don’t recycle, more trees will have to be cut down. This leads to the destruction of rainforests and all the harmful effects this brings to wildlife and the environment. Trash that is not recycled ends up in landfills, wasting natural resources and causing pollution. Recycling helps produce alternative energy which is sorely needed today. Recycled aluminum for example, takes 90% less energy compared to using a new one. There are also energy savings when using recycled glass, plastic and steel. If people recycle, the world will be a cleaner, healthier place for humans and animals. Aside from a clean environment, it also means more money and jobs. Governments around the world spend billions of dollars managing waste. Cities that recycle will save millions that can be utilized for improving the welfare of its citizens. Setting up a recycle center will require manpower, benefiting those in need of work. If this practice is not mandated, trash will accumulate; space and natural resources will eventually come up short. Why Recycling Matters To those still wondering why recycling is important</a>, here are the reasons. Number one, the practice conserves energy, which limits the effects of global warming. Recycling a single aluminum saves energy to operate a TV for three hours. Think of how much more can be saved if thousands of aluminum is recycled. Conservation of the land is an obvious reason. It has been estimated that nearly 500,000 trees are cut down every week in the US to produce newspapers. If recycle is made mandatory, more trees will be saved. Landfill use will be reduced which helps keep the environment clean. Make a Difference Get a recycle bin for your home and start using it. Shop for items that do not use a lot of packaging. Buy only the stuff you need so you can reduce the number of shopping bags you use. Keep a trash can for the shopping bags you use. You can bring them to your local grocery for recycling. Separate the contents of your recycle bins according to your community’s recycling program. Let your kitchen waste and plant materials compost. This can be used for your garden soil to grow plants.
