ALTAMIRA FINE ART JACKSON
Altamira Fine Art Jackson is pleased to present Under the Sky, a group show for three of our most celebrated artists: Jared Sanders, September Vhay and David Grossmann.
2
A show reception will be held at our Jackson location Thursday, June 16 from 5-8pm during the ArtWalk. All three artists will be in attendance. Under the Sky is an artistic testament or honoring of the soft simple ‘sense of place.’ Each artist has a distinctive style but share a common elegance, which can be described as an almost meditative stillness. Sanders iconic barns and rural scenes employ a masterful eye for composition with simplified elements that create a monumental impression. With a similar minimalist design, September Vhay’s soft wildlife paintings and charcoals lend a refined process to a traditional genre. David Grossmann’s tonalist landscapes have an ethereal quality to them, with a distilled modern styling, unique surface texture, and glowing palette. Presales available. Call 307-739-4700. 3
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
JARED SANDERS
ALTAMIRA FINE ART JACKSON
Jared Sanders was born in 1970 in Kaysville, Utah and studied art with Glen Edwards at Utah State University. Sanders considers himself a regionalist, and travels the winding roads of the West for his inspiration. His masterful handling of paint allows him to portray the subtle grace of a small Utah farmhouse at dawn, a vast Montana pasture in early spring, or a hundred-year-old Colorado barn. His skies are exquisite – luminous yet quietly potent. The artist’s reverence for the everyday contemporary West is clearly evident in his work. Sanders work has been featured on the cover of Southwest Magazine and in national publications including: Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector and Western Art Collector Magazines. Awards include—the Art for the Parks People’s Choice Award in 2000; Best Oil or Acrylic at Maynard Dixon Country, 2003; and the 2004 Purchase Award at Deseret News Landscape Art Show “Color of The Land.” He has had over a dozen one-man shows in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Sedona, Arizona, Park City, Utah, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Landmark, his heroic 72 x 60 inch canvas, was acquired by the Buffalo Bill Center of the West’s Whitney Gallery for their permanent collection in 2013.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
SEPTEMBER VHAY
ALTAMIRA FINE ART JACKSON
September Vhay was born in Reno, Nevada. A largely self-taught artist, her formal training is in architecture. She received her bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Oregon in 1993. Vhay was also influenced by the paintings and sculpture of her great-grandfather Gutzon Borglum, who created and sculpted Mount Rushmore and other prominent national monuments. Vhay’s work is classic in subject matter and technique, and at the same time modern in her composition and minimal approach. She deftly exposes the interplay of light and dark, hard edges and soft, and dynamic areas against quiet, open space. Backgrounds drop away so that her muted, earthen palette can evoke the very essence of an animal. Recent exhibitions include—the 2013 Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale and the 2013 “Cowgirl Up” at Desert Caballeros Museum. Among other awards, September won first place in painting at the 2012 Ex Arte Equinus International Competition, and the Trustee’s Purchase Award at the 2010 Western Visions Show & Sale at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Her work has been featured in national publications including—Southwest Art Magazine, Western Art Collector, Mountain Living, Homestead, Luxe Magazine, Western Art & Architecture and Images West. 7
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
DAVID GROSSMANN
ALTAMIRA FINE ART JACKSON
David Grossmann was born in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1984. He was raised in Chile, where his family lived until he was fourteen, before returning to Colorado where he would later attend the Colorado Academy of Art in Boulder. Using a gentle, glowing palette, Grossmann paints abstracted visions of forests that are melodic in their focus on rhythm and symmetry. Sprawling swaths of landscape transform into flat, smooth planes, while scattered trees lend a profound sense of depth. These contrasting perspectives set the works slightly off-balance, sending the eye on an endless quest to consolidate them. Grossmann is an award winning artist whose work has been exhibited nationally in top shows including—the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale; Oil Painters of America Western Regional Exhibition; American Impressionist Society National Juried Show; Salon International; California Art Club Annual Gold Medal Exhibition and the Maynard Dixon Country Invitational. Southwest Art Magazine featured Grossmann as one of their “Artists to Watch”, and his work has been in national publications including—Plein Air Magazine, American Art Collector and the 2015 book, Artists of the Grand Teton National Park. Most recently, Grossmann was the recipient of the prestigious Artists Choice Award in addition to the Southwest Art Award of Excellence at the 2016 Coors Western Art Show & Sale in Denver, CO. 9
