DUKE BEARDSLEY FAR RIDERS AND FAST TALKERS May 7, 2014, Jackson, Wyo. – Altamira Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Duke Beardsley. “Far Riders and Fast Talkers,” will be on exhibit May 19 through May 31, with a reception for the artist on Saturday, May 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Duke Beardsley’s working cowboy images are rendered in a clever minimalist approach and presented in palettes that lend a Pop art sensibility. His unique art, like his western lifestyle, is a joyful melding of tradition and contemporary styling. Increasingly the paintings have a narrative quality, telling the story of his family’s life in the West. In this show of new work, Beardsley explores larger formats, especially in his “lineup” paintings in which a line of riders faces the viewer. “I’m particularly enjoying the juxtaposition of scale,” Beardsley said of his recent work. “Putting smaller riders and larger riders together speaks to me of the roles of ‘the one vs. the many’ in today’s changing, challenging West.” As a fifth generation Coloradan, Beardsley’s western roots run deep and his art reflects those roots. Splitting his time between Denver and his family’s cattle ranch in eastern Colorado, he has been drawing and painting images of the American West most of his life. His work blends modern artistic elements with the traditional icons of the West. The result has made him a consistently popular favorite among collectors of Contemporary Western art.

MARY ROBERSON NATURALLY May 7, 2014, Jackson, Wyo. – Altamira Fine Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Mary Roberson. “Naturally,” will be on exhibit May 19 through May 31, with a reception for the artist on Saturday, May 24, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. In her latest work, Roberson takes an even more contemporary approach to painting, letting her passion for wildlife guide her. Responding to animals’ colors and natural environments, Roberson utilizes abstraction to create subtlety and texture. Though the paintings have a mystical, atmospheric feel, their creation often meant an “aggressive” technique on Roberson’s part. To that end, she has been working on canvas on panel, which better withstands her layering and slicing of the paint. Roberson says, “Creativity is an experiment that never ends.” Her goal as an artist is to have fun with her work and allow spontaneity, not formula, to unfold in the work. In “Naturally,” viewers can look forward to Roberson’s images of Western wildlife and ranch scenes, as well as African wildlife. Mary Roberson lives in Hailey, Idaho, where she takes advantage of nearby Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks for inspiration. She has said that she feels that wildlife chooses her as subject matter, rather than the other way around. For Roberson, composition is the driving force and she uses a muted palette in order to highlight the composition. She builds her paintings through layers of paint, with representational images of animals against earth-tone backgrounds. Roberson has captured the attention of private collectors and museums alike. She was the featured painter at the 2010 Western Visions Show & Sale at the National Museum of Wildlife Art. Her painting, “The Mystic Forest,” is part of the museum’s permanent collection.
