HOWARD POST WESTERN PERSPECTIVES This exhibit of new work by Howard Post entitled “Western Perspectives” runs June 17-29, with a reception for the artist on June 20. Howard Post is known for his unique aerial perspectives and sun-drenched hued depictions of ranch life, cattle, cowboys, and rodeo arenas. He portrays the contemporary West with a modern, impressionistic viewpoint. Post was born and raised on a ranch near Tucson and gravitated early towards the cowboy life. He began to enter rodeo competitions as a youth and in time became an Arizona High School All-Around Rodeo Champion, a member of the University of Arizona rodeo team and eventually a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association competitor. He also earned both Bachelor’s and Masters degrees in Fine Arts at the university and taught there for two years. Howard Post’s oils and pastels are included in many exhibitions throughout the U.S., and his paintings are represented in corporate, public, and private collections. In 2012, he was awarded the Victor Higgins Award of Distinction for best body of work at the Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West. Also in 2012, Post won a gold medal at the Phoenix Art Museum’s The West Select. For more images from this exhibition please visit: http://www.altamiraart.com/exhibitions/_59/_img/

DENNIS ZIEMIENSKI NEW IMAGES OF THE OLD WEST An exhibit of new work by Dennis Ziemienski runs June 17-29, with a reception for the artist on June 20. Dennis Ziemienski juxtaposes the classic cowboy life with the increasing influence of Modernism. The scenes in his work accurately depict Western life at the beginning of the last century when railroads, vehicles, motels, and rodeos began to dominate the western landscape. Ziemienski has had studios in California and New York. Traveling to Europe frequently, he has acquired an affinity for the architecture, lifestyle and light of the Mediterranean. His strong and richly colored images borrow much of their inspiration from early 20th century paintings and posters. He has won numerous awards and has had commissions by Time-Life, LeviStrauss, Rolling Stone, and The New York Times, in addition to Super Bowl XXIX, the 2006 Kentucky Derby, and the Sonoma Salute to the Arts.

ED MELL NEW TO ALTAMIRA FINE ART Altamira Fine Art is pleased to announce that we are now representing Ed Mell. “The ruggedness, the monumental scale and the breathtaking beauty of the American West are as iconic to the American mythos as the Manhattan skyline or Big Sur. For a prior generation, it was Maynard Dixon who set the standard for painters seeking to capture the long vistas and distant horizons of the epic West. Today it is Ed Mell. Ed Mell’s dramatic dance of realism-balanced abstraction with a touch of Art Deco conveys an almost reverential attitude for land and sky. Mell canvases grace important boardrooms, museums and private collections, internationally. A collection of important Western contemporary art is not complete without a significant Ed Mell painting.” Mark Tarrant, Director, Altamira Fine Art
