R. Tom Gilleon Fire Within
Altamira Fine Art in Scottsdale is pleased to present Fire Within, an exhibition by esteemed Western Contemporary artist R. Tom Gilleon. The show contains all of Gilleon’s signature subject matter, and runs for two weeks, March 31 through April 12, 2014. A celebration and reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, April 3, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., during the Scottsdale ArtWalk. The artist will be present. A master of color and composition, Gilleon manipulates formal elements to depict time-honored Western themes in new and inventive ways. His evocative perceptions of reality feature bold luminous color and economy of detail. His trademark tipi paintings suggest a mythical glow, as if illuminated by the moon or glowing embers within. In his Scottsdale debut, Gilleon will exhibit work with all of his signature subject matter, including nine panel paintings, portraits, trilogies, grain elevators, and his striking tipis. With works ranging from 16 inches by 16 inches to 60 inches by 120 inches, Fire Within will highlight a selection of artwork that was part of the 2013 Let Icons Be Icons one-man show at the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana. Gilleon was recently selected by the C.M. Russell Museum as a member of The Russell Skull Society of Artists, a new group of 22 distinguished painters and sculptors. This show features Gilleon’s 48x77 digital installation, “Hungry Fox Equinox”. The C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, Montana, recently acquired a Gilleon digital artwork for their permanent collection. R. Tom Gilleon has garnered many top honors for his artwork. The Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, selected Gilleon’s painting “Northern Plains” for its permanent collection. In March 2013, his painting, “Hair Apparent,” set a record at auction. He is the first living artist to have a solo show at the C.M. Russell Museum.
