SEPTEMBER VHAY Altamira Fine Art Scottsdale is pleased to announce an exhibit of September Vhay’s gestural “Red Horse” paintings, December 8-20, 2014. A reception for the artist will take place on Thursday, December 18, 7:00-9:00 p.m. Inspired by the season, when red berries appear in bright relief against bare branches and white snow, this show of September Vhay’s ongoing Red Horse series is a perfect complement to the holidays. Vhay’s serene gestural series evokes the distillation and essence of the equine form - and the West in wintertime. The Red Horse series began several years ago as a way for Vhay to deepen her exploration of horses intrinsic qualities and forms. Basing her work on study of sumi-e paintings and abstract sculptural work, Vhay began rendering horses in bright red watercolor lines. Initial paintings were compact. The series now includes large and small oils on canvas as well as watercolors on paper, ranging in sizes from 7 x 9 inches, to 60 x 60 inch works. “My challenge and subsequent reward is to reorder reality by distilling it to its essence. It is in this essence where the truth of subject lies. Beauty resides in this truth. It is a pleasure to seek out this essence and to share it with others.” – September Vhay A largely self-taught artist, September Vhay’s formal training is in architecture. She received her bachelor of architecture degree from the University of Oregon in 1993. Vhay’s work is classic in subject matter and technique, and at the same time modern in her composition and minimal approach. Her paintings are realistic in form and detail, yet they possess an impressionistic aura as well, a looseness that adds a sensitive dimension. Her understanding of structure, composition, and light (all of which are crucial in architecture) give her paintings a sense of three-dimensional form. Vhay’s recent exhibitions include the 2013 Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale and the 2013 “Cowgirl Up” at Desert Caballeros Museum. The Artist will be present for the reception the evening of December 18th, 7-9pm. Please join us in celebrating the season with this festive debut of the Red Horse series in Scottsdale.
