BORDER ORDER STATION TATION COLUMBUS, NM - PUERTO PALOMAS, CHH, MEX
THE 2014 ACSA/AISC Steel Design Student Competition consists of designing a border crossing in a controversial environment. The site chosen was between Columbus, New Mexico and Puerto Palomas, Mexico. Each morning, 400-500 students cross the border from Puertos Palomas to Columbus to attend elementary, middle and high school. Born in the United States due to the lack of a local hospital or clinic on the Mexican side of the border, these children carry dual citizenship. As one educator puts it, “Here you will find two cultures separated distinctly by a border; but the ebb and flow of culture across the line blurs the social-psychological separation”. As you come upon Puerto Palomas you immediately notice the impending impact of the road to the border. The idea behind the Border Station is to soften the impact and reroute with ease the path through the border,

KCC DORMITORY BROOKLYN, NY
The dormitory at Kingsborough Community College is part of a master plan for the college that would be carried out in the next couple of decades. Since Hurricane Sandy exploited the vulnerability of the waterfront campus, a design was needed that had urban resiliency in mind. This design also encompassed a vision for a water front park to attract the local community. Thus resiliency by nature was born. Resiliency by Nature is an attempt to protect the KCC campus from storm surge and prepare the campus from future sea level rise. By creating a 3 level defense strategy; Dune, Extension of beach, and berms, that also create a destination.

HARLEM ARLEM SCHOOL CHOOL OF THE ARTS RTS MANHATTAN, NY
The design challenge for the Harlem School of the Arts was to remodel the building from its current brutalist state. The main architectonic move is to take the desolate courtyard in from the back and reactivate it in the front thus giving new life into the building.

BUSHWICK USHWICK RESIDENCES ESIDENCES BROOKLYN, NY
The Bushwick Residences are a pair of homes located in a neighborhood in the process of gentrification. The use of greenery and rusted materials on the facade fuse thus reflecting the evolution of the neighborhood through time. The homes are set on a North-South axis thus sitting on an angle in comparison to the city block. This is to set it apart as a residence in the former heavily industrial neighborhood.

POOL OOL HOUSE HOUSE HARLEM, NY
The public pool/bath house on Convent Ave and 128th St conveys the idea of the city inside the building. Other than the pools on the ground level, the other programs are stacked to emphasize verticality along with a shaft that emulates the light/air shafts around the city.

WINGS INGS OVER VER MIAMI IAMI MUSEUM USEUM SOUTH FLORIDA
The Wings Over Miami Museum currently houses a small private collection of war planes at Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport. The project consist of a new building that can be used to expand the collection. The entrance of the museum arrives abruptly into the side of the building as if forcing its fusion with the building. This disturbance attracts the user to investigate. As the user walks towards the building he/she will feel the sense of propulsion walking by the steel columns and beams as they become more numerous.

The Wings Over Miami Museum’s layout was inspired by the wing plan of an F-14 Tomcat Fighter Jet. The only jet to have adjustable wings. When expanded, the two sections of the wing create a boomerang outline.

METROMOVER ETROMOVER STATION TATION SOUTH FLORIDA
FIGURE 1: These 12”x12” mat board fold-outs are a series of explorations into manipulating folded planes to create spaces of kinetic forces. FIGURES 2-4: As a follow-up to the kinetic forces models, an 18”x16” model was designed with pedestrian, automobile, and the Metromover forces in mind. This model integrates all three; A pedestrian bridge that cuts across the station provides less traffic for the station, A side road on the west side of the stationprovides easy access for drop-off and pick-up for motor traffic, and, last but not least, The Metromover Station itself provides a larger platform that will be able to receive more passenger cars at one of the busiest stops on the Metromover rail which includes close to a 100,000 passengers a day. DOWNTOWN OWNTOWN SPA PA SOUTH FLORIDA
The 2010 ACSA / AISC Steel Design Student Competition challenges architecture students to design a public urban center dedicated to reconnecting people with their authentic selves, others, and nature. Peace approaches this challenge by setting itself in downtown Miami. With its monolithic concrete columns surrounding the structure, Peace masquerades its functional purpose. As soon as you step inside you come about a reflecting pool where you can meditate and relax. To the right lays the music room where you can lose yourself in song. To the left you will find atop a sun deck where you can lay and enjoy the view of the pool.

LABYRINTH ABYRINTH LIFE IFE & DEATH EATH LOST OST IN TRANSLATION RANSLATION LABYRINTH :A 8”x4”x4” confined space; this tower consists of a decreasing path that circulates the entire structure revealing different vantage points of the structure. Once at the bottom, the final vantage point rewards with a full view of the structure horizontally as well as vertically. LIFE & DEATH: A 12”x12”x2 ½” wall divided by a ½” gap, Life and Death uses asymmetrical and symmetrical visual connections to bridge the gap separating these two sides. LOST IN TRANSLATION: A 12”x12”x12” cube that serves as a sacred space for a civilization of jumping beans. A circulating path throughout leads to the four rectangular cubes at the top that serve as viewing galleries for the deceased. Also, there are spaces dedicated to intimacy as well as a path on the bottom for celebratory rituals.
