Halt Chair

PROJECT STATEMENT Perched low to the ground and painted in a blue color that is reminiscent of the sea, the Halt Chair exudes tranquility and asks only one thing of its sitter: to choose respite completely. Inspired by the serenity of the beach, the chair is comprised of pine held together only by rope, similar to the kind that you would find at the pier. The chair is not only suitable for the natural seaside environment it has taken inspiration from but also for city dwellers looking for relaxing spot to read, or sit back, contemplate and escape the city.

MARKET

RESEARCH

Alternative materials, such as bungee cords and rope, really struck me.

Design Within Reach was one of three showroom visits I made as part of market research.

A collage that I made, consisting of relics and images I took from my showroom visits.

MODEL-

MODEL NO. 1 explored the form of what would become the Halt Chair.

MODEL NO. 2 mocked up the mechanics of the rope joinery and investigated the capability to fold.
