This redesign of ‘The Night Manager’ represents the book’s plot of an ex-military hotel manager intercepting drug and weapons deals happening right under his nose in his high-class hotel and how he tries to intercept these illegal deals. I submitted this design to the Penguin Random House Student Design Competition and chose to go with a clean icon type style to represent the sophistication of the high end hotel life-style.

I collaborated with Linda, from The Hummingbird’s Kitchen, on the creation of both her Ginger Tea Concentrate as well as the packaging design of her Vegan Ice Cream labels. Linda Huang grew up in Shanghai surrounded by a family who celebrated the art of cooking and eating, so I designed both Tea and the Ice Cream labels with a traditional Chinese linework as well as a clean, sophisticated and hand-made look. Both designs fit together in a system but also stand by themselves.

For this very unique project I collaborated with local Bozeman sculpture and ceramicist, Canon Parker on a package that encompassed his artistic concept and his 3 hand-casted porcelain cups for sale in a local gallery. His ideas for the creation of his cups were that... “By casting these materials in a historically valuable material such as porcelain, and making them into a vessel which must be brought to the lips to be used, I invert the human relationship to this class of material. Simultaneously, the capitalistic narrative and luxury of porcelain is subverted. What remains is a mug which fluctuates between these identities.” -Canon Parker With this in mind I decided to create a cleanly designed dumpster with hand drawn iconography on the outside to encase his ceramic pieces. On the inside of the package, the customer would also receive a poster visually representing Canon’s concept for these cups.

Within the past year I decided to join my love of design with my love of bold fashion to create my laser-cut acrylic jewelry business, Frizzle. Frizzle is exclusively for the funky, offbeat and colorful. It is boldness beyond reason and style that’ll knock socks off. It is hand designed jewelry that is created through the lense of style and extremely graphic, design.

During my time working as special projects designer and project manager at Intrigue Ink in Bozeman, Montana, I spearheaded and executed several projects that are now being sold in the store today. Including but not limited to; The Montana Gal Saloon Collection Box, the Chasing the Moon Bandana, the Nice Rack crop top, and the Ski Bum Survival Kit Package. A variety of uniquely designed packages and products that represent Intrigue Ink’s hand-made but ‘Funky Fresh’ style.

Every month this uniquely shaped and interactive Kombucha Klub Box fits 2 bottles into the negative space of the arms of the k and the other 2 fit into the stem with windows to view them from the back. During this month, customers will receive kombucha from a brewery called “booch. Booch has created a unique concept for their 7 newest brew blends centered around the theme of the 7 deadly sins.

As the Graphic Designer for the Montana State University School of Music I was responsible for the designing of tickets, posters and programs for upcoming concerts/events. I designed this package for a theoretical gallery showing in Portugal of “Design from America. The goal was to create a piece for the gift shop representing one of the gallery pieces (a designed object from an American artist) and package in a way that both represents the piece and Portugal.

This greeting card captures Montana State’s motto of “mountains and minds” by bringing one of the community’s favorite traditions of playing in the snow, right onto the university’s campus. Whether making a snow-bobcat, sledding down the mountain or hitting the slopes; MSU is both the family and home the campus shares during the holiday season and beyond. This card is intended to capture the essence of a vintage Montana ski poster while highlighting the community, history and the bit of playfulness Montana State has to offer.

Hi! My name’s Alyssa, but you can call me Al! I’m a Montana based graphic designer with a love of packaging design, expressive typography and brand identity. With a Type A personality, I’m a designer of the whimsey and collector of all kinds of ephemera. I value great design and draw inspiration from everything around me. When I’m not designing you can find me playing my many instruments, rearranging furniture, roller-skating, woodworking, dog-petting, laser-cutting or movie watching.
