American Medical Associa/on – Medical Student Sec/on, Region 5 2015 Annual Mee/ng, January 30-‐31 Dear Colleagues: Welcome to Royal Oak, MI! I’d like to personally thank each of you braving the cold and joining us this weekend at the 2015 Annual Meeting of Region V of the American Medical Association, Medical Student Section. Our nation’s healthcare needs are changing. A changing nation requires new solutions, new policies, and a new framework in which to view healthcare. The time for innovation is now. The time for service is now. The time for leadership is now. Medicine is truly at a crossroads. As medical students, we have the opportunity to impart beneficial change to our future patients and healthcare as a whole. I urge all of you to keep this year’s meeting theme in mind as you attend conference sessions, listen to our speakers, and meet and network with your new friends and colleagues: Leadership and Innovation at the Crossroads of Medicine. Region V of the AMA-MSS is a powerhouse of medical student potential and accomplishment. Our students are strong leaders in all levels of the AMA – local chapters, state Governing Councils, and many capacities of leadership at the national AMA and MSS level. We are consistently active in improving AMA policy via effective research and resolution proposals. We demonstrate a strong dedication to service to our community. Your commitment to the AMA and the future of healthcare is the reason why I am proud to lead Region V of the AMAMSS. Throughout this conference, I ask you to stay engaged and proactive. Reach out and make new friends. Ask questions. Aim to go home feeling more confident in your abilities as a future leader in healthcare. As active AMAMSS members, we have the drive, knowledge, and most importantly, passion to change the future of healthcare. My personal respect and thanks goes out to all of you. Regards, Poornima Oruganti AMA-MSS Region V Chair Northeast Ohio Medical University
