A homage to “Commando” war pigeons who served alongside the British Army during World War II to carry crucial intelligence over enemy lines. Beautifully decorated with flecks of 22 carat gold with an interpretation of the Dickin Medal with the inscription, “For gallantry we also serve” around the base. Special backstamp “In recognition of all World War II War Pigeons who served alongside the British Military Intelligence Service”.

The ”War Dog” commemorates the service of military animals. Depicting a sketched scene of trench warfare emphasizing both the impacts of battle and the welcomed companionship that war dogs provided. Flanders field poppies adorn each side of this piece, adding strong colour whilst symbolizing healing and remembrance. The words ”lest we forget” around the base of the piece can be deciphered using a mirrored surface. Certificate of Authenticity.

Goviers have been very lucky, as one of Royal Crown Derby’s longest standing customers to have this small limited edition paperweight, one of a very small number of paperweights being released this year. Given this and the huge international interest in this significant anniversary, we expect this small edition of just 275 pieces to sell out quickly. Designer Carmen Roome has incorporated elements from the official V.E. Day logo as well as iconic symbols from the era. Deliveries will start in April.
