The Art of Defiance The modern woman is a fearless, confident go-getter. More and more women are beginning to stand out in the world and go after what they want. The modern woman is assertive, independent, and she recognizes her strengths. Although she has a kind personality, she is not weighed down by the needs and desires of others. She works hard for what she wants and stands up for what she believes. Inspired by the bold, geometric lines, saturated color, and strong sculpture and architecture from the Art Deco period of the 1930s, this collection portrays strength and geometry. Patricia Bayer, author of Art Deco Architecture, describes Art Deco as “an architecture of ornament, geometry, energy, retrospection, optimism, color, texture, light, and at times even symbolism. In a way, this description is cohesive with the description of the modern woman: she is energetic, optimistic, and has an ornamental personality. This collection of evening dresses is composed of strong geometric lines and geometric structures that adorn and enhance the woman’s body showing her fearless confidence and power.

Pop culture in today’s society is affecting the children of this generation through movies, music, video games, cell phones, the internet, etc. Although these affects can be negative, in a way they are preparing children for the future. One of the most influential parts of society today is the constant improvement in technology. I want this collection to emphasize the future persona of children of this generation if they are constantly being exposed to new technology.

The Aftermath

Heat Wave is a collection of swimwear inspired by the Art Deco influence found on South Beach in Miami, Florida. With eye-catching color and the bold, geometric print, a woman sporting this swimear will turn heads on any beach.

Desert Sun

Desert Sun was inspired by the vibrant colors of desert sunsets as well as the gold, grassy desert landscape. This knitted dress fades from bold royal blue to a magnificent magenta into a sizzling red-orange. Following the colors of the sunset, the dress is completed with textured gold fringe.
