N

aya Elisa Buchanan miraculously entered this world on November 5, 2002, 13 weeks early to Rodnika and DJ Buchanan. This beautiful, chocolate baby doll was a medical anomaly from the second she took her first breath. Doctors gave a miserable prognosis of Naya’s situation and told her parents they did not expect for her to make it through the night. But Naya was strong and defied all odds by continuing to develop and grow against all medical reasoning. Her daily routine would shock most people. Naya took multiple medications, performed medical procedures, and ate an extremely restricted and specialized diet each and every day to maintain her quality of life. At the age of 7, our soft-spoken angel was fortunate to receive a kidney transplant and continued to grow stronger and stronger. Naya was blessed each to be a part of very loving communities…starting with her excellent caregivers from Siskin Child Center, Wallace A. Smith Elementary School, and Hunter Middle School. Her deep appreciation for music and dancing made school dances an exciting event! Often described as sweet and caring, Naya was wonderfully loving and protective of her younger brother, Daylen, and baby sister, Raegan. They played often and shared a love of basketball and all things related to Stephen Curry. Naya played volleyball for many years, and was known for her great serve! Passing the time on social media sites like “Instagram” and “Musical.ly”, she loved dancing and singing all the latest hip hop and pop songs and recording every moment to share with her friends.

Naya loved doing so many things‌ going to children’s church, eating cheese fries, playing The Sims game, using her iPhone, watching Dancing With The Stars and the Food Network and hanging with her many cousins. Naya is preceded in death by her grandmother (Grammy), Jamesetta Buchanan; great uncles, Reginald Clark and DeWayne Clark; great grandfathers, Harold Jackson and Thomas Moultry; great great grandmothers, Valine Barnett and Hazel Moultry; great aunts, Mary Jefferson and Katie Williams. She leaves to cherish her sweet memory: mother, Rodnika Buchanan; father, Donald (DJ) Buchanan, Jr.; brother, Daylen Eugene; sister, Raegan Janae; grandmother (Granmommy), Valerie Howell of Jacksonville, FL; grandfathers, Jerome (Big Daddy) Howell of Jacksonville, FL and Donnie (Granddaddy) Buchanan of Knoxville, TN; great grandmothers, Ruby (Cecil) Hines and Bobbie Clark both of Chattanooga, TN; aunt, Amanda (Rico) Whitehurst of Jacksonville, FL, and Kellie Layden of Knoxville, TN; aunt/special cousin, Kenya (Shawn) McGhee of Atlanta, GA ; uncle, Keith (Diona) Layden; uncle/special cousins, Keenan Burton of Atlanta, GA, and Eddie Burton of Louisville, KY; great aunts, Joann Burton of Louisville, KY, Darika (John) Priest, Felisa (Bernard) Gaines, Valerie (Lamar) Moss, TaWanna (Barry) McLarty all of Chattanooga, TN, and Monica (Carl) Davis of Jacksonville, FL; uncle/special cousin, Eddie Burton of Louisville, KY; great uncles, Michael (Helen) Glass and Brian Howell both of Chattanooga, TN; a host of loving cousins; other relatives, and friends.
