The Peterborough Village community:


Supports the creation of the Avon River Park/Papawai OtÄ kÄ ro

Green City

Requests local sites for community gardens.


• Requests a public swimming pool and gym complex in the north of the central city.


• Supports the Central City Greenway project


• Supports the Eco Streets project • Requests that Peterborough Street be designated as an eco street.


Distinctive City • Requests the Peterborough Village is recognised as a new precinct .


• Supports the Familiar Landmarks Project • Requests support for capturing the special spiritual and community value of St Luke’s. • Requests support for recognition of the Ōtautahi Pā heritage.


• Supports a lower-rise city and the need to redevelop a central city on a much more human scale. • Requests that the zoning and height regime now proposed as a single Central City Living 14 m zone are reconsidered.


• Supports Urban Design Controls on development through – Urban design panel – rules

• Requests a mechanism for community-led design principles to be recognised in the Central City Plan.


• Requests that a representative of the village be included on the urban design panel. • Requests that the urban design panel process allow for direct recommendation from the panel to the decision makers.


• In principle supports the ‘Out the Back’ initiative (p.58). • Requests that the ‘Out the Back’ concept be applied to any commercial development within Peterborough Village.


Supports the ‘Strengthening the Grid’ initiative.

Requests creation of ‘edge lanes’ in the north of the central city and Peterborough Village.

Requests assistance to create edge lanes and public courtyards in the Village, appropriate to a residential area.


• The Council has identified The greatest need for a comprehensive neighbourhood centre is to the north – • Supports the creation of the Moa neighbourhood centre on the proposed Manchester/Salisbury corner site


• Requests that Peterborough Village is recognised in the plan as a new city precinct.


• Requests more clarity on the intended makeup of the ‘community centres’. • The commercial centre of the Peterborough Village to remain the area around the Peterborough/Colombo Corner.

• Requests that the Madras/Peterborough business zone (B3B) is retained as a mixed-use and small-scale centre that integrates with the Eco Street.


City Life • Supports the intent and targets of the ‘City Life’ section. • Requests that a city playground be located at the river end of Peterborough Street (east). • Requests that Peterborough Eco-street becomes part of the Public Art Network.


• Requests that consideration be given to allocating a site for a central city school in the plan within the Moa/Victoria area.


• Supports the ‘residential initiatives’ concept • Requests ‘Social Housing’ and ‘Affordable Housing’ projects are worked on in partnership with the Peterborough Village Community.


• Supports the Neighbourhood Initiatives project with a Peterborough Village Community Hub

• Requests the support of a Strengthening Communities Development Advisor or community advocate


• Supports the Housing Showcase • Requests that a demonstration housing showcase site be established in the Peterborough Village.


Transport Choice • Supports creation of separated cycle lanes, paths and use of cycle streets ‘tool box’.


• Supports slower two way streets with dedicated cycle ways separated from parked cars. • Requests that parking facilities integrate with the Village redevelopment.


Market City • Aims to establish a co-working office and meeting space in the village (a Community Hub).


Transitional and Implementation • Supports the transitional city and implementation assistance initiatives in the recovery of Peterborough Village.
