Glossary of Terms
What is the September Guarantee? The September Guarantee applies to students in Years 11 and 12. Young person in the Guarantee Group are entitled to an ‘appropriate’ offer of learning, for example a college place, apprenticeship or job with training to level 2. This is closely monitored by the Local Authority each year and statistics fed back to central government.
What are Intended Destinations? At the start of Year 11, students are asked what they ‘intend’ to do next. This is used to plan provision for the coming year and respond to any specific changes in demand.
What are Destinations and the Destination Measure? ‘Destinations’ refer to the activity of young people once they have left education e.g. on a further course, in employment or unemployed. Activities are recorded between November and January after leaving school or college. This data has previously been collected by Connexions services. Starting in 2011/12, this responsibility is moving to schools who will then be asked to make their statistics public.
What is the Youth Employability Service? The Youth Employability Service is funded by Brighton and Hove Council to support unemployed 16-18 year olds residing in Brighton and Hove, into work, training or education. Young people who have previously held a statement of special educational needs are able to receive support until their 25 th birthday.
What is the RPA? RPA stands for Raising the Participation Age . In 2013, all young people will stay at school until they have completed Year 12. This will apply to current Year 10 students. In 2015, this will be extended and all young people will be required to stay in education until their 18th birthday. This will affect young people who are currently in Year 9.
