Since the time of Legos and Lincoln Logs, architecture has always been my passion. As a recent graduate with a Masters degree in Architecture from Kansas State University, my dream has become a reality. In the past five years as a student, I have been involved in many college groups and clubs; participated in a studio to attain funding for renovations for the Kansas State Architecture building; collaborated on numerous design/build projects, including one with a partnership with el dorado Inc. and the Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri; and studied abroad and gained valuable experience at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

The Molab Fiberart Gallery, located in the Prokopske Valley, Czech Republic, is designed to create community awareness and unity through the implementation of transportable art galleries. These lightweight, self-supporting structures are constructed out of fiberglass. The pattern of the fiberglass is created by weaving black and transparent fiberglass together, adding visual texture and increasing one’s sense of privacy.
Art Gallery
Angled galleries create visual guides for visitors to move through the spaces to view the art works.

The program called for six showers and at least two changing rooms, fifty cubbies for the girls’ storage, three toilet stalls and washing stations, and one full bathroom for males that is ADA compliant. P
O
The process for the design/build was divided into three phases. The first phase was an individual design concept, while the second phase dealt with teamwork and a more intense design strategy involving mock ups and construction details. The third and final phase combined all three team designs from the second phase into one. N

The concept for the final design was to utilize a trough shower pan that would allow for eight showers instead of six. A galvanized steel structure and white HDPE enclosures contrast with the dark shed. Finally, green curtains tie the shower stalls back to nature and the outdoors. I

In collaboration with the Kansas Children’s Discovery Center in Topeka, Kansas, seven Kansas State students and one professor set out to build an outdoor classroom. In approximately four weeks, the drum-like concept became reality.
Nature Room
The structure of the classroom is made out of reclaimed wooden electrical posts donated by Westar Energy, while the storage shelves and oculus parts are made out of plywood that was milled at Kansas State University.

The concept behind this design was to create a building that would complete the corner of 4th and Townsend and unify the block. The core was placed on the side to differentiate between the served vs. service areas and to frame the outside corner as a public space. The space between the louvres and the glazing is an interface that allows for transition between the exterior and interior of the building. Colored glazing is used to organize the open floor plan into multiple spaces. White walls within the building reflect the color and light at different angles and into different spaces, creating a bright and friendly atmosphere. [29-30]
