Thought to be extinct, the
I v o ry B i l l W o o d p e c k e r was discovered in the Cache River National Wildlife Refuge in the Big Woods region of Arkansas in 2004. The sighting of the woodpecker launched

a n i m a l i n h u m a n h i sto ry. The search brought hope to the ravaged and dwindling towns of Cotton Plant and Brinkley, Arkansas, a place rich in ecological and cultural history with deep possibilities for renaissance despite present day condition of economic depression and inequity. The project is focused on the development of an Avian Wildlife Education Center set in the ancient hardwood forests along the Bayou de View between the two towns. The Education Center is located off of Highway 17, 200 yards from the original sighting, bridging a swale off of the main channel of the bayou. As the building crosses the bayou the tower intersects the form, physically and spiritually connecting
the viewer with the sky and the water.
The tower mediates the space between entry and the interior of the exhibit space, giving the viewer a place to experience the Bayou DeView with all the senses; a place to see the sky, smell the bayou, hear the avian wildlife, the taste of Craig’s Bar-be-que still on your tongue , and feeling the humidity of the Arkansas Delta.

Fayetteville School Avenue Artscape Community Design Center Instructed by Steve Luoni
The School Avenue Artscape is a topo(graphic) surface articulation which marks the territory of 4 nodes that are then populated with repeating elements to create different condtions along the street. Each node is designated with interpolated topo(graphic) lines that disseminate the from the center. At critical street intersections the surface tables while at setback parks the topo(graphic) expands into the space. Each node is populated with earth mounds, light poles, urban furniture, and landscape elements.

The first node, located at the intersection of School Avenue and Mountain Street, mediates the space between the square and Fayetteville’s Arts District. A radial pattern of hedges and furniture mark the entry to the library while light poles create a landmark for the School Avenue Arts District.

The light poles follow the topo(graphic) and become taller as the hill descends leaving the tops at the same elevation. Urban furniture populates the field of lights creating a space for gathering in the forest of lights.

The third node, located at the intersection of Spring Street and School Avenue, will have a Low Impact Development intervention that helps to manage the storm water runoff at the intersection. The earth mounds take on a different role and act with a bioswell of reeds to filter and slow rain water. The valley of the street will act as a release from the forest of lights. Lights strung from the underside of the trees highlight the path below.

Fayetteville School Avenue Artscape The forth node, lining the walk in front of the new Spring Street Municipal Parking deck, begins with an interactive light walk that replaces the typical material of the topo(graphic). It intensity of the lighting becomes more pronounced the closer it gets to its source at Dickson Street. The interactive light display builds as it moves towards the Walton Arts Center Rose Garden and then terminates by wrapping itself into the amphitheater. The earth mounds congregate and take over the Rose Garden creating smaller spaces for impromptu music performances and casual gathering. Lines of light poles designate the procession from the parking garage to the Walton Arts Center.

hostel for tiendiasta Mexico City Urban Studio Instructed by Russell Rudzinski Mexico City, Mexico
Located in the historic Centro of Mexico City, the projects charge is to provide a live/work hostel for small scale shop owners that frequent the city to purchase goods. The project site, set in La Merched barrio, was once the site of a large Spanish monastery. Much like many of the religious centers built by the Spaniards, over time the monastery was reduced as the urban fabric of Mexico City expanded. The project reflects the history of the Centro by pulling spatial logics from monasteries found in La Merched barrio and the surrounding areas of Mexico City.
Reminiscent of monastic life, the hostel will provide a small haven for the shopkeepers who are in town for business by giving a degree of privacy and quiet from the outside world. The site parti is derived as if it was once a larger monastic block that has been destroyed over time and fractured by the contemporary urban fabric. The three courtyards are cut by the jagged site line giving it the effect that it could continue if not for the other buildings.

Studio Addition
Seminar : The Architectural Detail Instructed by Professor Chuck Rotolo
The Studio House on Ammersee is a small glass house designed by BembĂŠ + Dellinger Architects. The visual lightness and transparency of the volume gives it the effect of hovering above the ground. Below ground is where the living quarters are located and the entry to the new writing studio. The proposed addition features builtin work surfaces and shelving for a small library and writing supplies. The studio has access to a small patio through a figural stair that references the entry to the main house. The underground addition can be made without fracturing the glass volume while the figural stair compliments its proportion. Existing House

The Wells-Lamson granite quarry, located in East Barre, Vermont, is no longer in active use. The walls of the quarry are nearly 500 feet deep, a substantial mark of industry on the natural world. The drama of the quarry seduces visitors and encourages ref l e c t i o n o n t h e e nv i ro n m e nt a l consequences of our actions. The charge is to design a building complex for an institution devoted primarily to visual, literary, landscape, and performing artists. The project will comprise of four programmatic elements; an educational pavilion, artist studios, artists residences, and a memorial. The four programmatic elements are aligned with the striated pattern, created by the A p pa l a c h i a n M o u nt a i n ra n g e , that reverberates through the project site. The project straddles the landscape between the two granite quarries. An existing hiking trail cuts through the project perpendicularly, directing the viewer through the individual programs.

sutphin boulevard storefronts The Sutphin Boulevard Storefronts are the design and reconstruction of existing storefronts in Jamaica, NY. This is part of a facade revitalization program from the Business improvement district in Queens, NY. Design iterations were drawn by hand to move quickly through the design process while using a medium the client could quickly understand. My role included design and assisting in construction administration. The finished construction date is set for Summer 2016.

Honey comb school Competition Economical, flexible, & easy to assemble modules fulfill the basic needs of the school while maximizing efficiency and minimizing exposure to the elements. Operating on the typology of the traditional yurt, each unit exploits existing site conditions by way of a self-contained, unitary system that readily propagates and adapts to program change as the school grows.

Honey comb school Competition The hexagonal shape of each unit keeps the amount of unusable space in the plan to a minimum. As the modules snap together, the doubled wall space between units acts as a conduit for mechanical systems. Because the structural frame for each room is identical, the overflow summer pavilions can be easily transformed into conditioned spaces as the school expands. Construction can be phased, building essential services such as bathrooms first while maintaining a sheltered connection to the existing school. Colored panels in the truss system create a unique quality of light within each space.
