This architecture thesis explores the challenges and opportunities of cultural translation through architecture from the authors home, Nigeria, to the United States. The cultural translation manifests itself in a student housing + restaurant in West midtown Atlanta. This site, in close proximity to Georgia Tech, serves as a home to a large population of first- and second-generation Nigerian students. This housing complex will recreate the communal living promoted by traditional Nigerian architecture, which will provide the students with insight into the living cultures of their home country. Ultimately, students are provided the opportunity to experience a cultural mosaic expressed through the translation of traditional Nigerian architecture into the modern building design.
