A SoFoBoMo Book
This is a SoFoBoMo book. SoFoBoMo as in “Solo Photo Book Month”. SoFoBoMo is no contest, there is nothing to win but experience, there is no competition, though it still has rules. The idea is, to make a photo book in a month. Alone. That’s what “Solo” stands for. Making means everything from shooting and processing the images, bringing them into a sequence, arranging them in a layout, and finally creating a PDF. That’s it. Produce a PDF and you’re done. Optionally you can also use one of the various print-on-demand services and create something printed on real paper, but the PDF is mandatory. The timeframe is one month, a so-called “fuzzy month”, i.e. an interval of 31 days that you are free to position within a period of two months. SoFoBoMo was invented by Paul Butzi, and if you want to know more about it, I suggest you go to the official website http://www.sofobomo.org/ This is the second year that SoFoBoMo takes place, and it is the second year that I participate. Last year, after much procrastination, I began late and finished latest. I could only do it, because I shot all the images in one afternoon, and it still took me three weeks to finish. “Urban Dreams” was the title of an exhibition that I had last year, and “Urban Dreams II” is also the title of this book. In the process of creating it, I made a book template in Adobe InDesign, and in order to try it out, I created “Urban Dreams I”, using assorted images from my exhibition, along with other images that I thought would fit. The images in this book were shot between May 4 and June 2, thus it took me exactly 30 days to finish, and I have shot images to the last day. This was intentionally so, because I wanted to get a feeling for a real photographic project, for how constantly working in a certain mindset shapes the way that I see.
