Overview
The Small Motors are segmented into DC (Direct Current) motor and AC (Alternate Current) motor. The DC motor, as the name suggests, is a motor which is widely used to convert direct current electrical energy into mechanical energy. A simple DC motor has a stationary set of magnets in the stator and an armature with one or more windings of insulated wire wrapped around a soft iron core that concentrates the magnetic field. The DC motor is further divided into Shunt DC motor, Separately Excited Motor, Series Motor, Permanent Magnet Motor and Compound Motor. Shunt DC motor is the motor in which the rotor and stator windings are connected in parallel. Separately Excited motor is the motor in which the rotor and stator are each connected from a different power supply, this gives another degree of freedom for controlling the motor over the shunt. Series motor is the motor in which the stator and rotor windings are connected in series. Thus the torque is proportional to I2 so it gives the highest torque per current ratio over all other dc motors. It is therefore used in starter motors of cars and elevator motors. Permanent Magnet motor is the motor in which the stator is a permanent magnet, so the motor is smaller in size. Compounded motor is the motor in which the stator is connected to the rotor through a compound of shunt and series windings, if the shunt and series windings add up together, the motor is called cumulatively compounded. If they subtract from each other, then a differentially compounded motor results, which is unsuitable for any application. An AC (alternating current) motor is a motor used to convert current electrical energy into mechanical energy alternatively. The AC motor comprises of two parts, an outside stator having coils supplied with alternating current to produce a rotating magnetic field, and an inside rotor attached to the output shaft producing a second rotating magnetic field. The rotor magnetic field may be produced by permanent magnets. The AC Motor is further divided in Induction Motor and Synchronous Motor. Induction Motor is the motor in which the voltage is induced in the rotor but for this to happen, the rotor must rotate at a lower speed than the magnetic
field to allow for the existence of an induced voltage. Synchronous Motor in the motor in which rotor tries to line up with the rotating magnetic field in the stator. It has the stator of an induction motor, and the rotor of a dc motor. On the application side, the Small Motors are massively used in Automotive, industrial and others. Small motor is a major component in most of the products of automotive industry. As the Automotive industry is enjoying technological enhancement the electric motor is replacing traditional mechanical system. Although, the automobile industry is making efforts to produce vehicles that can emit minimum pollution levels, but the electric vehicle industry is set to grow exponentially. The growth of electric vehicle industry will automatically increase the demand of Small motor. Geographically, the Global Small Motors Market is divided into: North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa. In Asia Pacific Region and North America the Small Motors is going to dominate the market. In Asia Pacific region people are shifting towards the use of solar powered appliances and government are also offering benefits to electric vehicle industry So many electric vehicle manufacturing firms are establishing in this region resulting in the growth of Global Small Motor Market. Small Motor Market is going to make a significant growth in North America due to the high acceptance of electric motors in commercial and passenger cars. The Key Market Players of Global Small Motor Market are Bosch, Valeo, Denso, Mahle and Mitsubishi Electric.
Major players in the Market are identified through secondary research and their Market revenues determined through primary and secondary research. Secondary research included the research of the annual and financial reports of the top manufacturers; whereas, primary research included extensive interviews of key opinion leaders and industry experts such as experienced front-line staff, directors, CEOs and Marketing executives.
