Beginners Guide Powder Metallurgy Process

It is a process that involves mixing of powder metals, then compacting the mixture in a die and then sintering and heating is done to form the final components.

PM Parts Production cycle Step1: Mixing The initial step of this procedure is the blending of the metals. Plain iron powder and a mix of different components are mixed together to form a uniform blend. Mixing is done to meet the physical necessities of the final part. Blending is finished by the powder providers or the powder metal parts Manufacturers.

Step2:Pressing The next step is pressing of the metal powder. The powder is pressed under high pressure. The mix is placed into a die and compacted. Dimensions and density are controlled in this process. The state of the compacted component is called a “green state. Step 3: Sintering Now the green parts are sintered by passing them to a furnace. In this step, both the temperature and atmosphere are controlled. The parts are sintered below their melting point so that the particles are fused, or sintered, together into a solid mass.

Other Secondary Operations  Heat treatment  Oil Impregnation  Resin Impregnation  Infiltration
