More than just childcare... St. Paul Preschool
St. Paul Preschool and Children’ s Day Out are a Ministry of Saint Paul United Methodist Church. They are a Christian based child care facility and Preschool dedicated to providing local children a loving, caring and safe environment that will foster a positive self image. Although both Preschool and CDO are in the same building and have some of the same children, they are two different programs. They have two different sets of staff members and function from two different financial stand points as well. In the fall this year the UMC Preschool will be celebrating it’s 50th year Anniversary. The UMC Preschool provides ageappropriate instruction for children ages 3 through 5. Their program is more academically focused than CDO. They include activities in all areas across the curriculum. including reading readiness, mathematics concepts, social studies, science discovery, and physical development. And once a week the children attend chapel and learn memory verses as well as part of their

routine. The Lead teachers of the UMC Preschool program have undergraduate degrees, and most are certified teachers. All Preschool classes are offered in the morning, from 9am-12pm. The UMC Preschool and CDO usually share some of the same children. The preschool children who are enrolled in CDO in the afternoon are walked to their classrooms by by preschool staff at noon, and continue their day in the care of CDO. Every year in the Spring the preschool students preform a program for the parents. Also they have a Trikeathon to benefit St. Jude. The Bicycle police come and interact

During the school year they accept Infants to children 5 years and During the Summer months they accept school age children as well. They do a lot of fun activities for the Summer Fun Program. For Instance, once a week they may go swimming or take a field trip. There will be a calendar provided to parents so they will know what activities not to miss. They also teach religion. Once a week, the children will participate in a 15 minute chapel service. During this time, the children hear bible stories and sing songs. The lessons will be taught in each classroom on an age appropriate level. If you have any questions or are interested in enrolling your children in either program that St Paul United Methodist Church offers, feel free to call Amy 806-3503318 with the Preschool or Jaime 806-352-8991 with the Children’s Day Out Program.

9 Ways To Sneak Fitness Into Your Day 1) Hit the playground! It’s better -- and far more fun -- than any gym. The monkey bars and mini-rock wall build upper-body muscle. Jumping off the climbing structures boosts bone density and leg strength. Heck, even the swings can be a good core workout. It’s like an outside circuit course. 2) Play a game. Kick-ball, tag, jumping rope, wheelbarrow races -- they’re classics that absolutely count toward your child’s daily activity requirement. For younger kids, try Move Like an Animal (it’s a huge hit with the children Stefko works with). Call out the name of a critter and challenge your child to mimic the way it moves: hop like a frog, balance on one leg like a flamingo, stretch like a cat, and so on. 3) Check out a class. Take your child to an open gym at the local gymnastics center and let her try out the equipment, or head to the indoor climbing wall or skate park for a lesson. One-offs like this are good because they let your kid try out a bunch of different activities to see what she likes best -- without the time and money commitment of full-on, three-days-a-week lessons (which your child may end up hating). 4) Use people power. Ditch the car and walk or bike when you can. Pedal to the pool, playground, or pizza
P AGE
6
shop, and trek the mile to school on foot. 5) Speed wash the car. Kill two birds with one sponge: Get that heart rate up and make the family car spotless. See how fast you can get it soaped, scrubbed, and hosed down—and try to best it next time. 6) Inspire her. Take your kid to a sporting event -a Major League Baseball game or a high school volleyball match -- so she can see and be motivated by the athletes,. Before or after the game, kick around a ball together, shoot baskets, or play a little backyard volleyball. 7) Wobble hobble. Have your child place a water balloon between his knees and race to the finish line without dropping it. In just 15 minutes, he’ll burn nearly 70 calories. Perfect for summer playdates. Benefits: cardio, coordination, balance, mood booster. 8) Backyard bowling. This is the sneaky-fitness version of “reduce, reuse, recycle.” Grab empty plastic bottles from the recycling bin and set them up like bowling
www.AmarilloKidz.com
pins. Take turns trying to knock them down with a soccer ball or kickball. Benefits: cardio, flexibility, balance, coordination 9) Garden party. Help your child choose some fruits and veggies to grow, plot out the garden, and tend the plants. (Hint: Opt for lower-maintenance items like tomatoes, zucchini, and carrots—kids have been known to forget a watering or two!) This idea is a better-health tri-fecta: Digging and planting is serious activity, it’s something fun the whole family can get involved in, and you get super-fresh, organic food out of the deal. Benefits: strength, cardio, flexibility, mood booster.
