Equine Therapy

There are 5 therapy horses total at 7 Star each of which have something different and unique to offer individual patients. As we were walking through the stalls being introduced to the horses we came to DOVE. This calm beautiful creature walks over in a slow delicate manner. This loving mare is an eighteen year old Tennessee Walker. Dove has many allergies and is diagnosed with COPD. With a special diet this mare’s asthmatic symptoms are eaisily maintained. Dove has been on a break from therapy for the past two months, but will hopefully rejoin the herd in November. “She is my favorite” says Elliot.

By Cherisa Felder Therapy with horses has been around for ages. At 7 Star Therapeutic Riding Center, you will find this age old treatment still in use today. Children and Adults with handicaps such as autism or attention deficit disorder often struggle to communicate, but put them with horses and they can achieve so much. Equine Assisted Therapy helps with physical and mental disorders. This kind of therapy inspires patients to learn about themselves, other people, and interacting with the world. At 7 Star there are 2 highly trained instructors who are certified through NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association,) who dedicate themselves to the health of their patients. Equine-assisted therapy provides an alternative form of therapy that cannot be obtained through conven-tional therapy. “The gait of the horse mimics that of a human.” Says Faith Elliot (Executive Director). “Through the motion of the horse, clients develop core muscle strength, and stimulation of brain patterns, which

“Happy Rooms For Happy Kids!” Artist Info: Lesley Ingham ~ I have always loved art. I have always loved creating, and I have always loved pretty things, but I had never experienced the kind of inspiration that I have now with my two precious children: Allison (3), and Kahlon (1 1/2). From the moment I knew I was expecting Alli, I began thinking of beautiful theme ideas for her nursery... and we ended up with a spring time type of theme, since her birthday is in April. Butterflies and bunnies in light pastels and sheer draperies is what I came up with. I beamed with joy each time I walked into her room! It turns out that her room matched her - light and blonde-headed, and pretty!
