VERTICAL SPORTS COMPLEX THESIS
7
India is in a major phase of urbanisation. No matter which figures you select, the urban population growth projections are incredible. In a 2006 report, India’s Registrar General suggested a rise of 248 million people living in cities between 2001 and 2026. That means between 10 million and 11.4 million new people to be accommodated in Indian cities every year. The increase in population leads to need of residential areas and less or no areas for recreational activities.
MUMBAI METROPOLITAN REGION
MAHARASH-
Site is divided into 2 phases of development . Future extension is currently used as recreational place .
ISSUES Recreational spaces
Land Cost
8
GREATER MUMBAI
The site connects to major roads in Mumbai causing it prone to noise issues and vehicular movement .
ANDHERI WEST
Slope of the slight is very gradual and leads to a scope of plain land due by excavating .
REQUIREMENT To provide recreational hub with maximum facilities for the stakeholder related to sports field. The coast of land of Mumbai city are too high, the reason behind less recreational spaces. Using maximum space and providing activities in vertical space .
STAKEHOLDERS Professional Players, visitors, kids, staff
Professional Players
Overall Well Being
Increasing the sense of community among the residents living in the area through increasing social interaction.
Professional Players, visitors, kids,staff
Health
Due to less sports activities nearby and busy schedule people neglect physical activities and ignore health. The hub should focus on catering sports and health and all sports related amenities at one place.

High Volume Courtyard
The sports block positioned at the end of the site generates a public space on all the sides of main block area , since the site is a corner plot .
The large hall on both side acting as recreational indoor sports fields . Both the blocks connects with visual connectivity with the street. It attracts visitors to explore buildline
Courtyard allows visual engagement .Different programmes can be observed through the courtyard. The roof of the building is used as green space and sports files and open gymnastic area.
The displacement of the volume into two parts with courtyard landscape area as communal and sharing spaces.

STRUCTURE The facade of the building is inspired by the honey comb structure which explain the traits of the player, who are uniform, disciplined and diverse. The facade also given structural stability to the building by providing structure light weight frame. The facade consists of three material i.e. ETFE (Ethylene tetra fluoro Ethyle ) which has high corrosion resistance and strength over a wide temperature range. It provides the panels from translucent to opaque range, second material is stone and third material is open area between panels for the wind flow within the building.

“Every trend is based on a social development. It’s an attitude to life which expresses itself in new, rediscovered and modified shapes, patterns and also functions. It takes the form of valuable stimuli for buyers, though also for manufacturers, who can specifically prepare for the year ahead at Ambiente,” Nicolette Naumann,Vice President of Ambiente.

Section of the exhibition illustrates Indian made objects, both time less originals still in use together with crafted objects that have evolved to respond to today’s expectations, gathering an international audience. They are presented in a cultural context, which narrates their stories, and, at the same time, reveals interesting facts about India. For 2019 the design studio has selected three thematic trends: Tasteful Residence
Quiet Surroundings
Joy-Filled Ambience
INSPIRATIONAL AND ART Ancient Indian artworks were often symbolic in nature. A pared down , minimal interpretation of the universe. Lines , and dots, and celestial diagrams were depicted as ideograms. The inspiration of the colors and patterns arises from this esoteric art forms, which, even with out the symbolism, is a unique body of art, and has a distinct graphic identity

ABOUT PROJECT The exhibit represents India’s myriad handmade crafts into a singular identity. The display for the exhibition was inspired by a mixture of Unconventional patterns with diverse materials such as botanical motifs, geometric and outsized figures, vintage prints, illustrative tapestries and innovatively recycled plastic that are juxtaposed in refreshing and surprising ways. One of the challenges was to incorporate the materials where the module was a constraint for the materials.

STRUCTURE The pavilions were inspired by the Indian cityscape with tall minarets and abstracted windows that open into small streets. The intent behind the circulation pattern was to create vistas and views that represent a typical Delhi local shopping street with altering street widths and variable heights. The highest point of the structure went up to 20ft. Proportion and scale, color palettes and fast pre fabrication techniques were a major key to design. In a bid to create a space that is conducive to work and employee well being, Tinkerly has consolidated various working segment into a single space. The main motive was to create inter-related transparent spaces illustrating various informal working areas fostering the curiosity and invention. The spaces were also influenced by the use of colors and wall installations to form attractive design aesthetics with values of knowledge. The light weight frame, shape and color of lightings, highlights the informal essence for the working areas.

Client - An installation commissioned by Insta Story for Bella Casa, Jaipur. Concept - The intent was to create a magnificent veil that was self supportive and reminiscent to the backdrop facade of Bella Casa. An emblematic symbol of a wave comprising with nature that comprehends the arrival of the space but at the same time envelops the semi-outdoor seating area. Construction – The project is constructed of PVC Tubes with a length of 1 Feet to form an enclosure over the seating area. The idea of PVC Pipes was a perfect fit that allowed to acquire any form by packing them closely together yet providing structural rigidity. The design consists of 2000 pipes cross- knitted diagonally with a length of 1000m metal wired strings across a span of 6x6m weighing about 1200 kg. A maximum height of 3.35 m was achieved that was supported by 3 parabolic metal frames. A quick assembly method .The pavilion rediscovers the potential of enclosing a space allowing the users to pause and re-think the aesthetics and the unifying design through a single material.

The plot site is around a neighborhood with narrow road of 20’ and the plot has a narrow front of 20’ as well . The restriction for this particular project was the narrowness of project leading to narrow front facade for a vertical 3 floor structure and less light and air flow within the residence . Client requirement was to provide parking space for three cars in ground floor and a open staircase with skylight which act as courtyard for the center area of the residence with a provision of lift within the structure common areas. The central stairwell skylight helps in circulation of air and light throughout the residence.
