SHADOW LINE Inspiration for a furniture line was found by observing and taking photos of shadows. Using the lines and forms unique to the shadow, a light fixture, a chair, and coffee table were created.
Light Fixture
The project involved transforming the lines in the shadow and using them to design a hanging light fixture. The fixture was constructed entirely out of recycled cardboard.

Chair Prototype
The same characteristics used to design the light fixture were applied to design a chair prototype that would be constructed out of birch plywood.

SCHINDLER GALLERY
The work of an architect from the mid 21st century was analyzed. Using their design characteristics a gallery for the architect was developed.
concept
The architecture in the gallery incorporates various elements of the designs Rudolf Schindler created throughout his career. Among the many details, there was emphasis put on the work he did with slipping planes, his coordination of large 3 dimensional forms, and his heavy use of concrete, steel, and glass materials.

Ai LIBRARY REDESIGN
concept
The project required a complete renovation of the library at the Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago. The new library is the transformation of the structure of an electrical tower. Along with the physical design, it helps translate that although technology has become prominent in almost every aspect of our society, books will always be the most reliable source.

EL ESCAPE RESTAURANTE
Research was done on the Spanish culture. This information was used to develop the concept for a restaurant and bar in Barcelona, Spain.
concept
El Escape was inspired by the diversity found in Barcelona. The various neighborhoods offer a wide selection of shopping, markets, and entertainment. The bar and restaurant highlight the cities narrow streets, the energetic nightlife, the extravagant decorations at their festivals, and Gaudi’s work that lines the streets.

Floor Plan
The group’s design stayed true to the historical architecture in the library. The classical revival style was preserved by restoring the original granite, hand laid mosaics, and glass mezzanine floor. Focus on the renovation and LEED was put into the exterior of the building by adding an open outdoor reading area.

STREETERVILLE RESIDENCE A home in the Chicago neighborhood of Streeterville was designed for a young couple, one of whom is of European descent and the other of Japanese descent. They travel extensively and have a collection of antiques and art. The design reflects a fusion of their cultural heritages.
concept
The basis for the design in the Streeterville home involved the transformation of traditional Japanese architecture and making it the focal point in a specific space of the residence. The design of the home fused a modern approach with traditional Japanese design principles.
