THE LINE BETWEEN CIVIL AND RELIGIOUS RIGHTS
Jim Denison- Denisonforum.org Kim Davis’s story has elicited strong opinions from people on both sides of the political spectrum. She was a talking point in the latest Republican debate, and her story continues to polarize as people are seemingly forced to choose whether or not her religious rights are more important than her duties as a government employee. Linda Greenhouse reflects on that choice in her latest opinion piece for the New York Times. In “Drawing the Line Between Civil and Religious Rights,” Greenhouse asks “For all the reasons to object to a public policy…should claims

based on religion receive more respect than the others? If the answer is yes, is it yes without limits?” Religious liberty is one of the foundational tenets of the United States. The first colonists left England in the hopes of finding a place where they could practice their beliefs without government interference. And while those early settlers were more concerned with their religious freedom than that of others who believed differently, it was still a principle that eventually developed into our First Amendment right to live free from Congress passing any “law respecting an

establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” That all sounds great in theory, but what happens when protecting the religious rights of some means denying the civil rights of others? Should one take precedence over the other? Davis’s case isn’t the first to raise this question. Greenhouse points out that, in 1998, a federal appeals court in Chicago denied a police officer’s request to be exempt from standing guard at an abortion clinic on his beat even though he claimed a religious objection to doing so. Judge Richard A. Posner wrote of the decision that while the officer was “entitled to his view,”
he was “not entitled to demand that his police duties be altered to conform to his view.” Posner went on to reference how a firefighter could not refuse to put out the flames if a competing religious sect’s house of worship was on fire simply because he opposed their views. Essentially, it would seem that the court’s opinion was that an individual has religious rights until exercising those rights causes him or her to violate the rights of others. Perhaps it is at this point that the principle of accommodation

INSPIRATION By April James What is the fire, the passion, the stirring within? What is it in the air that draws our hearts as never before? What is the yearning and searching? Could it be for the presence of the Holy One descending upon us? Or, could it be the sense of His presence lifting as our nation seemingly moves away from Godliness, turning its back on our Creator for the reasoning of man? Some scriptures that rend the heart: Ezekiel 10:18 “then the glory of the Lord departed from the threshold of the temple.” I Samuel 16:14 “ Romans 1: (NRSV) 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity... 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator… 28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. 29 They were filled with every kind of wickedness… Halloween is close at hand, a time
of trick or treats; a seeming harmless occurrence for some - yet ominous at the same time. Trick or treat - it began in the garden where the Treat was life in the presence of a loving God, his truth, blessings and goodness; the Tricks – deceit by Satan with his many lies, who came to kill, steal and destroy. Good versus evil, destruction or blessings, the

age old contrast continues to play out today, every day and not just once a year. The day after Halloween, November 1st, is All Saints Day. What a time for all the living saints of the Living God to proclaim as never before, enough is enough and not on my watch. To stand in the gap on behalf of our nation as Aaron did for his (Numbers 16:47-48), making atonement
for the plaque of sin and slipping moral foundation. That the tide of our nation would change, that with sincere hearts we would declare that this, the United States of America, is a Christian nation. I stand, speaking to myself and hoping to challenge others, to come out of the closet, from behind a veil of complacency, or thinking I am only one person – what can I do. Let our prayers ascend to the throne room of heaven and our voices join together to be heard the loudest, above the roar of the dissenting crowd, for He who is in us - is greater than he who is in the world. Two of many scriptures that fill the heart with hope: 2 Chronicles 7:14 declares “ if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Nehemiah 9:28 (NRSV) “yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven, and many times you rescued them according to your mercies.” Who will stand? Will You?
Being a Christian - Is Like Being a Pumpkin. God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up and scoops out all the yucky stuff including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see. INSPIRATION
Un touc hed By Paula McBride I pressed the security code on my mom’s memory care residence, entered, then waited for the click that signaled that the door was fastened tightly against “escapees.” Mom was seated in her wheelchair at the dining room table, eyes closed as has become her habit. Yet she roused as I greeted her with a hearty “God is SO good!” “What has He done this time?” she questioned to my astonishment. I didn’t want to tell her of the near accident my guardian angel prevented as I drove to see her, so I just spoke of God’s gracious protection and glorious love. Her face lit up with understanding as it does whenever I speak to her of Jesus. Yes, God did spare me tragedy as He has done time after time. But why didn’t He spare my friend her loss or my loved one his pain? Why do good people suffer? Let’s see if the image of God as a potter in Jeremiah 18 and a conversation between God and Job can help us battle these difficult questions. Have you ever watched a potter forming vases and pots on his spinning wheel? An experienced potter knows what he is doing, and sometimes he need to press and pull to form the image he alone can see in his mind. Sometimes he pulls up
the whole wad of clay and slams it back down on the wheel and starts over. Does the potter want something bad from the clay? Of course not! He just knows what is needed to get to the desired result. Like a potter, our Creator is the supreme designer of our lives, as Jeremiah reminds us. We tend to look at things from beginning to end. I think God looks at the end, or the completion of us, and brings into our lives just the right people and circumstances to bring that process about. Sometimes the process is delightful as the Potter smooths our softened clay. Sometimes He needs to pinch, poke, and prod to bring us into His image. But His touch will never break us. That is against His character. Our difficult circumstances may be much like the chaotic ocean the ancients feared. Yet God told Job there were limits to how far the ocean could come toward shore. “This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt” (Job 38:11). Those familiar with “waves of sorrow” know they are appropriately named. They can literally knock us off our feet. But what if a loving hand stopped them before the point of pulling us under. Can we trust Him? Can we call Him good? All this would be hard to believe if God
the Father had not allowed His one and only Son to be clothed in human flesh and to live life as a human, be rejected, tortured, and murdered so our helpless selves could be redeemed from the curse of sin. Yet, to those who believe Him, He
gave the right to be children of God (John 1:12). Children of God have a precious promise to claim from Proverbs 19:23: “The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.”

INSPIRATION By: Eric Metaxas/Breakpoint www.breakpoint.org If you’re of a certain age, like mine, you probably remember an actor named Dean Jones, who starred in—pardon the pun— goofy Disney films such as “That Darn Cat” and “The Love Bug.” For a long time, Jones lived the truth of the Lord’s question—gaining the whole world, at least the world of Hollywood—and losing his soul. But Jones, who died earlier this month at age 84, eventually gained his soul again. It’s a story worthy of a Hollywood script. Dean Carroll Jones was born on January 25, 1931, in Decatur, Alabama. He grew up in a Christian home but rejected his family’s faith. After working as a DJ and singer and serving in the Navy during the Korean War, Jones was drawn to Tinseltown. As Jones told Christianity Today in a 2009 interview, “My first scene in a movie was with James Cagney, for goodness sakes. There I was, just out of the U.S. Navy without an acting lesson to my name. In walks Cagney and says ‘Walk to your mark and remember your lines.’ That’s all I’ve been doing for fifty years.” Later, when Walt Disney came calling, country-boy Jones hit the big time. “It
was a fast track life,” Jones said in another interview. “I was making $50,000 a week. I had the Ferrari and beautiful women and all the rest of what I thought would satisfy my life. And it was empty. Really empty.” As CT reported, “For years [Jones] had deceived himself into believing that the Hollywood lifestyle would satisfy him, but it had only left him depressed and suicidal. He addictively sought the comforting roar of audience approval, but such pursuits had only shattered his first marriage (which ended in divorce) and alienated him from his children. He began to see life as a pointless exercise in futility, to be managed by … alcohol and

a parade of affairs.” Jones wrote in his autobiography, “Under Running Laughter,” that he heard a voice in his spirit say that his lifestyle “will never satisfy you.” And Jones started to wonder, “Could I continue to deceive myself into believing that whatever vacuum existed within me would be filled in the future by more and bigger portions of what I’d consumed in the past?” God was at work. But it was a nearly fatal drunken-driving incident that really got his attention. CT reports that Jones cried out to God: “I’ve done everything in this world I thought would make me happy and it doesn’t
work. I have everything and I have nothing. I have no choice but to believe. [God, i]f you don’t exist, then I’m a dead man.” Supernatural peace flooded his soul, and Jones began to reform his life. One thing he did not do, however, was give up acting, which he saw as a key means of drawing people closer to the divine. Jones said, “Film and television have been partially responsible for the disconnect between our nation and our God. So dynamic but righteous entertainment can help reverse this trend.” Jones’s life and career show us that losing the world doesn’t mean we have to lose all contact with it! Acting can be a holy calling. Now, I need to tell you that Dean Jones has a special place in our hearts here at BreakPoint. Just a few years after accepting Christ, Jones accepted an offer to play Chuck Colson in the film version of Chuck’s bestseller, “Born Again.” Some folks were surprised that Jones agreed to play a former Watergate conspirator. But as Jones told the Washington Post, “If God can forgive me and Chuck, he can forgive anyone.” I can almost hear Chuck saying, “Amen to that!” Dean Jones, rest in peace.

If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that God can provide through Jesus Christ and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. COMMUNITY On Sunday afternoon, October 4, Life Chains will again occupy U.S. and Canadian sidewalks. There we will pray and witness on behalf of voiceless fellow citizens—the precious Preborns imperiled by surgical mutilation and abortive birth controls. Each participant will hold a Life message (sign), and www.LifeChain.net will again post the location and time of each Chain. Why build Life Chains? Each Chain is a prayerful, public testimony for God to anoint and work through to impact hearts and lives. Life Chains continue (our 28th year) because the children continue to die. The earth’s gravest injustice pursues them, and they die for want of defenders. If truth be known, well over 100 million rejected Preborns have perished in the U.S. and Canada, and as pro-life servant Flip Benham observed, “it takes a village” duly unified to ravage innocent humanity when vile, unjust killing is deemed “legal.” Law enforcement must agree to protect the killer and to disenable defenders who directly interfere, however honorably, with the brutalization of defenseless, lawful citizens. Health departments, school systems, elected officials, and civic organizations must find the killing either tolerable or praiseworthy. The adult citizenry (about
70% of the village residents) must do likewise. And, woefully, the Preborns’ last line of defense, the village church, must submit sufficiently to the “powers and principalities” of Ephesians 6 and allow unbiblical priorities to lure its duty and influence into years of détente with the spiritual forces that create and sustain holocausts. True to Edmund Burke, the horrendous villainy inflicted on the village Preborns endures because the inaction of “good people” shields it. On October 4, let us remember the videos God produced through the Center for Medical Progress. Therein God revealed the abhorrent “face of abortion” through the deceptive and barbarous mind of Planned Parenthood. But God revealed more. To the church in America, Canada, and the other Western nations, especially, He revealed, as noted above, the horrid evil that we have shielded for decades evil that He commanded us to “expose” and “hate.” Legal abortion will cease when the Church of Jesus Christ hates abortion enough to protect God’s future worshippers and end the carnage. On National Life Chain Sunday, let us implore God to anchor within us a deep hatred for abortion and to grow within us fervent compassion for vulnerable

Preborns. Pastors who lead in that endeavor will be of enormous value to pro-life. Accordingly, Pastors, please lead your congregations to the nearest Life Chain on October 4. Continued From Page 1: The Line Between Civil and Religious Rights becomes a necessary part of the solution. Accommodation refers to the idea that, in so far as it is possible, changes can be made to work with both parties to come to a resolution that protects both parties’ rights. In the situation with Kim Davis, same sex couples in her county can now have their marriage licenses signed by her deputies. For the police officer in Chicago, perhaps a solution would have been switching beats with another cop who did not mind guarding an abortion clinic. But, while that principle can often provide a practical solution to specific problems, it does not really address the larger issue. If forced to choose between religious and civil rights, in which way should the government lean? Ultimately, I’m not sure (now aren’t you glad you’ve read this far?). However, I do think there are some things we can, and perhaps should, do as Christians to make it easier on our government. For starters, instead of going on the defensive at the first sign that our religious freedoms might be infringed upon, perhaps instead we should heed Paul’s advice and remember what he told the church in Corinth. In 1 Corinthians 8-10, and really most of the book, Paul calls his fellow believers to give up their rights and what they feel entitled to in order to help
those around them come to better know the Lord. He concludes by saying “’All things are lawful’, but not all things are helpful. ‘All things are lawful,’ but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor” (1 Corinthians 19:23-24). And while Paul was primarily speaking about conflict within the Body of Christ, the principle applies to our current discussion as well. Now, to be clear, Paul isn’t giving us an excuse to sin, as he always draws the line where accommodating the needs or desires of others would lead us to go against God. However, the practice of thinking about others before ourselves can be helpful in knowing how to respond in situations where our religious liberties seem to conflict with the civil rights of others. Perhaps the biggest reason that’s true is that, often times, our perception that such a threat exists is simply wrong.
Disagreement does not have to end in conflict, but if we hear someone’s request and immediately think of how it impacts us, then we are less likely to seek a solution that can accommodate both parties without hurting our witness. Unfortunately, such accommodation will not always be possible and, when faced with the choice, God calls us to be ready to pay the necessary price to follow his word. If that means going to jail, it means going to jail. If it means some degree of social ostracization, then we must be ready to accept that outcome. However, the manner in which we go about such civil disobedience is just as important to God as the act itself. Moreover, that outcome should always be a last resort for believers, something we endure only when it has become clear that a choice between obeying God and obeying man must be made.

Fortunately, Kim Davis’s situation was resolved in such a manner that accommodations to her beliefs were made. And while the social and political outlook for Christians in this country is not necessarily encouraging, anger, resentment, and a defensive posture towards the slightest hint that our religious freedoms might be questioned is not the way God calls us to respond. While we may not be able to control how the larger culture reacts to us, we can always control how we react to them. God’s word clearly calls us to demonstrate love and patience, even if we must disagree in the end. Being accountable to God rather than man is more than a reason to stand against civil authority when pushed to that point; it also reminds us that when civil disobedience is necessary, it must still be carried out with the same kind of love, patience, and grace that our Lord and Savior demonstrated on his way to the cross. So the next time you are in a situation where you feel that your religious freedoms are being threatened, try responding with a posture that echoes Jesus’s statement from the cross: “Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” If you can honestly and genuinely do that, chances are the rest of your response will be pleasing to God as well.

ARE WE ENTERING THE NEXT GOLDEN ERA OF CHRISTIAN FILM?
The recent success of the box office hit War Room has many in Hollywood scratching their heads. Industry experts watching the numbers on the weekend of August 28th, repeatedly underestimated the ticket sales of this relatively unknown Christian film. It had many asking where it had come from as it placed solidly in the #2 position during opening weekend. The following weekend stunned even further when the film landed in the #1 box office spot for Labor Day weekend. The big question on everyone’s mind was, “Why?” Those of us who are in that coveted faith based audience understand the impact that a film reflecting our Bible based values can have. Our answer to the above question is an easy one. We understand that for the most part, Christians are usually ignored at the box office. So when a film speaks to our core value system in a legitimate way, we go to see it. And not only that, we take our friends, families and talk about it. We are, in short, the perfect audience. You would think this would mean that
faith based films would be in theaters all the time! Unfortunately, this just isn’t the case. It wasn’t all that long ago that Bible films used to dominate the box office. Extravaganzas like The Ten Commandments, David and Goliath, Samson and Queen Esther used to be regular sights in theaters. Not only were these films made, but they were made well. Big budgets and sweeping special effects made these films a huge success. So what happened? Many blame television. The advent of television made smaller budget storytelling possible and as a result, Hollywood began concentrating more of their film budgets on the imaginative: science fiction and epic romance began to replace faith on the big screen just as television programs picked up the mantle and began to tell stories that we know and love. But then, slowly, faith began to get edged out of television as well and it wasn’t long before there was an absence of the gospel in the entertainment industry.

However, recent years have begun to see an upward turn in faith based films. God’s Not Dead, Do You Believe, and Mom’s Night Out were all films that released in theaters across the country and they brought back solid results. Television has been showing a resurgence as well. The Bible and A.D., both doing well in the ratings, have made some in Hollywood stand up and take note. On the flip side, films like Noah and Exodus: Gods and Kings have both done poorly at the box office. The simple takeaway there is that we don’t need Hollywood to interpret, mash up, or shape our faith into their own vision. We just want to see people reflecting our own values on the big screen. One of the more powerful recent films

LIFE MATTERS presented by Yuba-Sutter Right To Life Abortion And Rape: Clarify The Moral Issue We should focus the discussion on the nature of the unborn by asking the moral question, “How should a civilized society treat an innocent human being who reminds us of a painful event?” When a woman is raped and conceives a child, the question is not, “how was one conceived?” but, “was one conceived?” The circumstance under which any human comes into being does not alter his or her nature or intrinsic value. For instance, whether one is conceived by loving parents, selfish parents, unwed parents, or through the violent act of rape has absolutely no bearing on one’s worth. Pro-lifers are not insensitive to the mother for recognizing the humanity of her child, though the media often portrays us that way. It is the rapist, not the pro-lifer, who forces his will on an innocent woman. By allowing the mother to kill her unborn child, our society is guilty of perpetuating the idea that hardship justifies violence. Prolifers aren’t trying to punish mothers; they simply want the violence stopped. Put simply, the tragic violence of rape does not justify the tragic violence of abortion. Abortion is wrong for the same reason rape is wrong; both are unjust acts of brutality against innocent human beings. Both rape and abortion take something that is not theirs to take: the woman’s body and the child’s life. When a woman is raped and conceives a child there are three humans involved – the rapist, the mother and the child. It’s tragic that of the three, the only one our society ignores is the innocent child. The next time someone brings up rape and abortion, respond with a question. “Tell me, when a woman is raped and gets pregnant, how many humans
are involved—two or three?” Upon reflection, many will say three. (If they say two, they’re assuming the unborn aren’t human, and that’s the real issue they need to resolve.) Then ask how we should treat each one. “Should we execute the rapist?” Many will say no because they oppose the death penalty. “Should we execute the woman?” Everyone rightly says no. “How about her innocent child? Should we execute him for the sin of his father?” Expect a long pause. Then, gently press the point: “So, of the three people you say are involved in the rape, the one we should execute is the innocent child?” It is the second rape victim, the unborn child, who is out of sight and out of mind. This little one benefits from no compassion whatsoever. In fact, in many cases these innocent ones are subjected to a fate far worse than that to which society would ever subject the guilty rapist. We should not be shy about making this point. The preceding was extracted from an article written by Michael Spencer of Life Training Institute (prolifetraining. com). It can be read in its entirety by going to http://prolifemike.com/ articles/abortion-and-rape-four-stepscompassionate-engagement or clicking this QR code with your smart phone.

RESOURCES Legislative Update from Assemblyman James Gallagher The Legislature’s season for passing new laws has wrapped up for the year, but the last month of session, as usual, was filled with last minute proposals and maneuvers that circumvent the regular legislative process and public input. One of these proposals was AB 2X-15, the End of Life Act. The bill contains the exact same language as SB 128 and will allow doctors to prescribe medication that will assist terminally ill Californians in ending their life. Because AB 2X15 was introduced during the special session on Health Care Financing , the author was able to sidestep the normal legislative process and bypass the Assembly Health Committee where SB 128 stalled earlier this year. I was the first to stand up against this bill and make a motion to prevent a vote from taking place because the legislation was not germane to the special session. After several hours of debate, the bill passed the Assembly Floor on a 44-35 vote. There is still hope that Governor Brown will veto this legislation. The special session was called to deal with Healthcare Financing and many, including myself, do not see a nexus between assisted suicide and healthcare funding. My own legislation, Assembly Bill 517, was also the victim of last minute maneuvers and opposition from Planned Parenthood. This bill would have provided parents with easier access to materials that will be distributed to their children during sexual education instruction. It would also have required, if a school elects to bring in outside consultants such as Planned Parenthood to provide this instruction, that the training of these instructors be listed on
James Gallagher the notification that is sent to parents. However, after AB 517 passed all committees with bipartisan support Planned Parenthood started lobbying Democratic Senators to vote against the legislation, without my knowledge. In the legislature, it is standard to give at least one week’s notice of any support and opposition. Additionally, it is standard to share opposition with the author of the legislation. However, Planned Parenthood ignored these principles and, unfortunately, they were successful in getting enough Democrats to oppose and kill the bill. While AB 517 was defeated this year, I will continue to work towards ensuring that parents have the necessary information and tools to join in on important conversations about sexual health with their children. If you have any questions, or would like to express your opinion these or other important issues, please feel free to email me at Assemblymember. Three American Heroes On French Train Are Strong Christians By Mark Ellis Anthony Sadler, left, Alek Skarlatos, right, and Spencer Stone, second from left, pose with Jane D. Hartley, U.S. Ambassador to France. The families of the three Americans who foiled a terror attack on a Parisbound train Friday said their heroism was directly related to their sturdy Christian faith. “They’re all Christians, they’re all very religious.” Peter Skarlatos, the brother of Alek Skarlato told the Sacramento Bee. On August 21st, Airman First Class Spencer Stone, Oregon National Guard member Alek Skarlatos and college student Anthony Sadler were en route from Brussels to Paris on a high-speed train. Sadler is the son of a Baptist pastor in Sacramento, California. All three young men were childhood friends who attended California’s Freedom Christian School together and regularly played military games in their youth, according to the Gospel Herald. Terror suspect Ayoub El Khazzani came
Spencer Stone (Left), Alek Skarlatos (Center), Anthony Sadler (Right) aboard the train armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Luger automatic pistol, a box-cutter, and multiple rounds of ammunition. El Khazzani opened fire, injuring a man before he was overwhelmed by the three young Americans and a Briton, 62-yearold businessman Chris Norman. Airman Stone was stabbed “multiple times” in the back and severed a tendon
and nerve on his hand, according to the AP. El Khazzani drew his pistol and put it to Airman Stone’s head and pulled the trigger twice. “But it clicked twice and didn’t go off,” Airman Stone’s mother, Joyce Eskel, said later, according to news reports. God’s providential hand of protection was evident throughout the crisis, because the young men started their trip
on a different train car, then switched 30 minutes later to the same car where the gunman opened fire. Pastor Anthony Sadler, who ministers in Sacramento’s Oak Park neighborhood, told reporters that he believes his son and his friends were used by God to disrupt what could have been an awful tragedy. “We believe God’s providential will worked its way out,” he said. “I’m just thankful they were there and got things done.” Pastor Sadler said his son has a “great love for his friends. There’s no way he would stand on the sidelines and watch them get attacked,” Sadler Sr. said. “I’m thanking God they were not seriously injured.” Their heroism and sacrificial love expressed in action echoed the teaching of Jesus when he said: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” The young men were presented with one of France’s greatest medals, The Legion of Honor, on August 24th.

I Regret My Abortion: A Woman Betrayed by Planned Parenthood Speaks Out By Debby Efurd, CP Op-Ed Contributor There’s no escaping the headlines. The Center for Medical Progress has now released six chilling videos detailing Planned Parenthood’s practice of harvesting tissue and organs from aborted fetuses for scientific research. The videos show executives blithely discussing how they haggle over the price of organ harvesting; the “going rate” is typically $30 to $100 per specimen. In the never-ending abortion argument, there’s no limit to the number of factions — pro-choice, pro-life, political parties, presidential candidates, bioethicists, legal and religious scholars — clamoring for media attention to trumpet their particular point of view. But you rarely hear from those at the heart of the debate: the millions of “silent sufferers” for whom abortion has been a traumatic life-changing experience since its legalization in 1973. I’m lending my voice on behalf of the postabortive community, which, by anyone’s calculation, is a large percentage of our society. Our message to Planned Parenthood? You have betrayed us! For decades, we placed our trust in Planned Parenthood for proper healthcare — but we were grievously duped. When
I walked into their local clinic, Planned Parenthood didn’t see a woman needing help … they saw dollar signs. In 1973, I wasn’t informed of the medical procedure I would undergo; I never received counseling or even a follow-up phone call. I walked in the front door, paid for the services in cash and was then shown the back door — but not until the abortionist told me, “Good news: you no longer have a baby.” Hopefully, a full investigation of the nation’s largest abortion provider will expose the extent of this deception; perhaps the physical, mental and emotional needs of women who are at their most vulnerable moments will finally be put first. For decades now, American women have been told they could have an abortion with little or no consequence. Nothing could be further from the truth. Abortion is an unnatural process that interrupts one of the primary functions of the human body. A woman’s body naturally resists the abortion, causing physical and emotional pain. I’m not alone in this mindset — there are millions just like me, women who regret their abortions and have suffered silently. For far too long they have held

profitable, and truth was hidden behind the promotion of “women’s rights” rhetoric. If, as these videos suggest, Planned Parenthood manipulates abortion procedures to obtain intact fetal organs, there’s little doubt that this segment of women’s healthcare was a misleading ploy to entice women with no consideration of the long-term effects. The veil of lies has finally been lifted: laws have been broken, human rights violated, and we have all been deceived. There’s no way to “spin” this.

on to a secret that slowly destroys them. But we are finding our voices with each passing day. In 1963, Planned Parenthood’s Plan Your Children pamphlet stated, “An abortion kills the life of a baby after it has begun. It is dangerous to your life and health.” What happened between then and a decade later, when the Supreme Court handed down its decision on Roe v. Wade in August 1973? Did abortion suddenly become safe? Of course not! What changed is that abortion became

EDITORIAL CHRISTIANS NEED NOT APPLY By Jon Skillman
Well, I knew it was coming, I just didn’t think it would come this soon and from our local paper. But there it was...an editorial basically saying...when it comes to being a public servant, Christians need not apply! The article starts off stating: “It may be not only OK but necessary to ask every candidate for every office from president to say, county clerk, to detail their religious convictions and their potential effects on their performance as public servants.” I can just hear it now: “Have you now, or have you ever had moral convictions?” “ Well I believe in God.” “Oops! Sorry! NEXT!” Personally, I want to know where a candidate stands spiritually, but this seems a little excessive and a tad anti-Christian. This article was also troubling because it wasn’t just the opinion of one editor but the combined consensus of the entire editorial staff. The reasoning behind this opinion is Kim Davis. You know, the county clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky who refuses to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. The article tries to rationalize it opinion by stating: “...most Americans consider church and government affairs be discussed separately.” Well therein lies the rub. Same sex marriage is a government affair that conflicts with the affairs of the church. And that IS the discussion. In the opinion of the editorial staff, “Kim Davis is not the victim of government oppression...she is the government

oppressor...” Wow! Somewhere along the way, what was wrong has become right...and what was right has become wrong. NO!! What was wrong is still wrong and what was right is always right. How in the heck did we get here? Well, a spineless media, a sea of jellyfish politicians and judges never questioned or challenged the lies coming out of an increasingly moral corrupt society. And the church itself is not without blame. It is complicit through its own complacency...and I judge myself guilty as well. It was a perfect storm of apathy. The problem is not, as the opinion piece suggests, Kim Davis...the problem is, there are not enough Kim Davis’s. There should be as many Kim Davis’s as there are Christians...but there are not. The editorial suggested that Kim should have quit her job in order to not compromise her convictions...wait a minute...wouldn’t that be a compromise? I think it is time for the church (the whole church) to decide whether it stands with God, or with the world... the temporal or the eternal. It’s time to be disciples of Jesus Christ, and when man’s law conflicts with God’s, we stand with God. Given the premise of this article along with the false narrative of separation of church and state, could it not be concluded that all Christians be barred from public service? Stand up Christians!

You’ll see pictures of some of those events in our “Caught Serving” section of this issue (p.10-11). On some weekends, there are too many events for people to attend, so they could well miss out on a powerful, meaningful time. Also, the sponsoring ministry would miss out on a potential donation and/or co-laborer. For this reason, I’ve long desired to start an online calendar for the local Christian community. We do list the events in our calendar section of each issue and several events have a larger ad for more exposure, but online allows us to post events that occur after we’ve already printed. I know that Facebook has a pretty good way of spreading the word about local events. Unfortunately, not every event is created as an EVENT on Facebook, nor does everyone have a Facebook account (especially us older folks). With that, I want to introduce to you the new Ambassador Community Calendar. You can access it on our website w w w. a m b a s s a d o r n e w s p a p e r. c o m and click on the calendar link on the left. Once in the calendar there are several ways to view it that show all upcoming events in a viewer friendly format. You
Seth Halpern - Editor can “subscribe” to the calendar, so that when a new event is posted, you will receive an alert. Best of all, users can submit their own events to be posted using a simple form. I’m excited about this new way to communicate upcoming events because there really is a lot happening in our area and we (the church) need to support these gospel-advancing causes in any way we can. If you have questions about the calendar please let me know. As always, our contact info is on the front page of this issue.
