By Jim Denison- Denisonforum.org The day that changed history began like any other. The sun arose over the Holy City as millions were still crowded into Jerusalem from Passover. The death of Jesus of Nazareth was not an unusual event—Rome crucified its enemies and insurrectionists all the time. The authorities were certain that their plot had succeeded, that this upstart was dead and gone. But with that single sunrise, the crucified carpenter became the resurrected Lord. The stone rolled over his grave was but a pebble compared to the Rock of Ages inside. Hardened Roman guards trembled and fainted. Cowardly disciples became fearless apostles. became the mightiest movement the world has ever seen. Eleven men became more than two billion believers today. All because of Easter. His disciples’ changed lives are testimony to the reality of the resurrection. Men who denied Christ to servants now preached him to the highest authorities in the land. People don’t die for a lie, but more than a million Christians died in the first generations of their movement, all of them for the One they knew to be their risen Lord. I have met him for myself, and can testify that
he is who he says he is: the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. On the day he returns to this planet, all will know it’s true. A poet said it this way: He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until he was 30. Then for 3 years he was an itinerant preacher. He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put his foot inside

a big city. He never traveled 200 miles from the place where he was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but himself. While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the

The Humble Hinge ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
By Paula McBride What simple little piece of hardware has caused a revolution in the way we build our houses, secure our possessions, and travel about? That would be the humble hinge. In fact, you probably reap the benefits of at least five hinges before you get to work in the morning without even realizing it. Hinges on your doors help get you out of your bedroom and keep the steam at bay while you shower. Kitchen cabinet hinges come in handy when you’re reaching for cereal or coffee beans— even if they’re invisible hinges that fit neatly inside the door. Don’t forget the refrigerator door hinge that is keeping your milk cold. And after your exit door swings closed behind you, you might pop open a 600-lb garage door, thanks to the mighty power of hinges.

No one knows exactly when the hinge was invented, but we can imagine what life would be like without it. In an ancient settlement in Turkey dating back to 6500 BC, the houses had no front doors. Instead, people propped up ladders against their mud-brick houses and entered them from a hole in the roof. In other societies, people had to rely on heavy rocks and giant slabs of wood or stone to keep them safe from weather and intruders—meaning anyone too weak to move the makeshift heavy door was vulnerable. The Old Testament records only one use of the hinge, and that is a set of gold-plated ones for the gold door in Solomon’s temple (I Kings 7:50 TLB). By the time of Jesus, though, primitive

WWW.AMBASSADORNEWSPAPER.COM March On ••• MARCH ON ••• By April James Does anyone have some mornings like me where you just want to stay snuggled under the warm covers; where your toes dread the touch of cold wood floors? For me, today was one of those days; it’s been a long hard week, the body is having some aches and pains, and my flesh protested the thought of rising this Sunday morning. My mind begins to rationalize and make excuses for not crawling out from under the covers: it’s
my little world of needs. At such times, I find myself borrowing words and attitudes of David, Paul, and other saints of old to encourage myself to march on. They never said we would always feel like doing what we should. Sometimes it requires effort and commitment to continue on and follow through. We read such words as: David strengthened himself in the Lord, I press toward, I strain to reach, I bring a sacrifice of praise. You and I have an adversary who
okay if I skip service today – after all I’m there most of the time, no one will miss me, I deserve a day off, I can catch a sermon on TV, and the list grows. Despite all this, I toss back the covers making the decision that although the flesh protests - I will rise and march on into the day. Super Saint I “ain’t”. Some days it truly is a sacrifice to offer up praises, to read my Bible, to meditate, to pray for others instead of only focusing on
would love to see us stay put - to not march on, to just pull the covers over our head and not engage in a day the Lord made, to not persevere in the things of God. There are great prizes Satan would like to keep us from; the pleasure of the Lord’s presence, the joy of fellowship with other Christians, divine encounters the Lord orchestrates, the chance to be encouraged and encourage others, to

If She’d Been Healed… By Kelly Delp The whole day that Mom lay in that hospital bed we fully expected she would be healed. We waited in anticipation for her to open her eyes – we saw it happening at any moment. We waited, imagining the stories we would tell about her healing. We waited, expecting to make glorious phone calls back to family saying it was okay, God had come through, all was right in the world, she had been healed. We watched her closed eyes waiting for them to flutter. We squeezed her hands waiting for her to squeeze back. And sometimes I wonder where I would be three years later if she had been healed. Surely that first year everyone would have talked about it. She probably would have been booked at some conferences and church services to preach about healing. People would have asked her to pray for their own healing. At the end of THAT day, everyone would have sighed relief. See? They would have said. Nothing to worry about. God pulled through. (And somewhere, someone would have watched the whole thing wondering why their person hadn’t been healed.) I wonder if, after three years, the story would have gotten old. We probably would have moved on. It
would have been a great family story, and I expect we would have been brought closer by the experience, but eventually everything would have gone back to normal, and probably once in a while I would have thought, “Phew. Glad that all worked out.” Instead, I have struggled with my faith. I have struggled to figure out what I really believe about healing, or faith, or whether God really cares what hurts us. I have cried countless tears, I have yelled at God, and I have given up more than once. I can’t tell you how many times I have asked God why. I have remembered He loved me and rolled my eyes and thought yeah, sure. Thanks a lot. I have preached sermons on finding peace and worshiping and struggling and instead of imagining what that must be like, I have been able to bring broken pieces of myself to share with others. I have been able to listen to people that have walked through excruciating pain and say, “Me too.” I have been able to listen to people struggling with what to believe and say, “Me too.” I have led worship and have sung and said, “He is always good. He is always faithful.” And I have said it from a heart that believes it truly, tested by fire. I have become a person without
answers. I have moved into a space where I admit I am too small to understand His plan. I have become a person forced to understand that much of the comfortable theology I grew up with melts in the face of tragedy. Although I didn’t want to, I became a person that understands the tip of the iceberg – that when you say you lost someone, what you actually mean is that you saw things you never wanted to see, you felt pain so immense it was indescribable, you asked questions about God you never thought anyone should ask. If she’d been healed, we would have

had a great story. A great testimony. But the thing is, sometimes the testimony isn’t that God gave you what you wanted – it’s that He made you into the person you couldn’t become without the tragedy. We want to be spared pain, but without pain there is no growth Without having our foundations shaken, we remain the same. It is a gift to be brought into a place of shaken faith, of questioning, of doubt. It is a gift to have to say with tear-stained cheeks, “Prove yourself again. Prove yourself again.” Because, through His mercy, He does. He is always good. He is always faithful.

played How Ingrid Bergman Came to Know Christtothe have life of such By J. Christy Wilson, Contributing Writer – Assistnews.net The movie, “The Inn of the Sixth Happiness,” in which Ingrid Bergman starred, won many awards. It’s the missionary biography of Gladys Aylward, who went as an English maid to serve in China. She worked with Jenny Lawson, who had started an inn to reach muleteers going into northwestern China with the good news of Jesus Christ. This was called “The Inn of the Sixth Happiness.” Besides the five joys the Chinese usually have, the “sixth happiness” was the Gospel. During the Japanese invasion, Gladys Aylward took more than 100 orphans by foot through the mountains on a difficult journey to safety. One of her converts to Christ, formerly a criminal, went on along to help her. But, as the enemy soldiers were about to discover them, he ran in the opposite direction and shouted, acting as a decoy to save them. As a result, he was shot and killed, but the others were saved. Gladys and the children held his funeral. There, she reads the words of Jesus Christ, “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lays down his life for his friends.” Gladys and all the children finally reached the Yellow River and were safe.
When Gladys heard that Ingrid Bergman was going to play her part, she was very upset because she knew this Hollywood actress had had children out of wedlock before she married an Italian movie producer. By then Gladys was Ingrid in Taiwan. She shared her concerns with Madame Chiang Kai-Shek, with whom Gladys prayed regularly. After they had brought this before the Lord, Madame Chiang was confident that God had heard and would overrule. Ingrid Bergman was so deeply moved while playing the part of Gladys that she made a special trip to Taiwan in 1970 to meet her. Only days before she arrived, however, Gladys got the flu and died. Seeing Ingrid’s disappointment, Gladys’ co-worker, Katherine Smith, asked Ingrid if she would like to see the simple room where Gladys had lived. Ingrid fell down beside Gladys’ bed and wept, saying she was unworthy

a woman of God. Katherine then had the opportunity to lead Ingrid through the steps to peace with God, showing her that Christ had died for her sins. Ingrid prayed the prayer of repentance and received Jesus Christ as her
Savior and Lord. Twelve years after talking to Katherine, Ingrid died of cancer in 1982. Before she died, she took part in the Easter sunrise service of the Presbyterian Church in Palm Springs, California, reading from the Scriptures the account of the resurrection. Although her movie career had won her many accolades, Ingrid’s greatest reward was receiving eternal life through Jesus Christ. Editor’s Note:

Mathew A new baby boy, about 4 months old, has joined the Samaritan Village family. Baby Mathew was found dumped at Makao Maya Arusha by a humanitarian and taken to the nearby police station. The police then took him to the hospital for a checkup where thankfully he was found to be without injuries. On February 17th, he was brought to Samaritan Village where he has been admitted as our newest child. Baby Mathew will now know the love and care that will help him to grow and thrive. The “mamas” of Samaritan Village along with Josephat (the director and “Father of the Village) will hold him, feed him, sing to him and shower him with the love he needs to reach the potential God has already placed within him. He will also get to know his many
new brothers and sisters as he joins the Samaritan Village family. As a supporter of Samaritan Village, you can be part of this blessing. You too can be the hands and feet of Jesus, bringing care and love to “the least of these.” A gift of $60. monthly will provide for Mathew’s care at Samaritan Village Orphanage. A monthly sponsorship for a child is $60., but any amount - either one time, monthly or even yearly is greatly appreciated. Please visit our website @ http:// www.samaritanvillageorphanage.org or follow us on Facebook @ Samaritan Village Orphanage. Donations may be made via Paypal online through our website. You may also send a check to the address shown below. RESOURCES A 6-Point Battle Plan for Fighting Well with Your Spouse Conflict is inevitable in marriage. Two people with distinct personalities, quirky habits and sin tendencies, becoming one? Recipe for struggle. But struggle and conflict aren’t necessarily bad. In fact, if we learn to fight well in our marriages, we have the opportunity to be refined and to learn what unconditional love looks like when lived out. So we know: avoiding conflict is bad. What’s better: knowing how to resolve conflict. In his recently trending piece, How to Fight Fairly with Your Spouse, Relevant writer Tom Meitner shares a 6-point battle plan for fighting well with your spouse and resolving disagreements with grace and love. 1. Recognize that this is a team effort. Meitner quotes Ephesians 5:21 – “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” It’s up to both people to solve conflict together, regardless of who started what. 2. Give the fight your full attention. It’s easy to trade jabs and let tension mount when electronics, chores, children, etc. are distracting you. It’s even worse, Meitner notes, when we “fix the problem quickly with a one-off
comment.” How often have you said, “I’m sorry,” just to shut the conversation down? This might end the fight, but the conflict is not resolved. Giving the disagreement your full attention can help resolve the conflict for good. 3. Keep a cool head. Meitner writes, “It’s OK to get passionate during a fight if you are frustrated. But if you start losing your temper, nothing good will come of it, and you won’t get anywhere near a resolution.” If you’re prone to emotional outbursts during arguments, it might help to discuss some strategies you and your spouse can agree on to keep disagreements from getting out of control. iBelieve writer Laura Rennie and her husband employ the “let’s start over” rule in their marriage when

RESOURCES
“Tax Tips” Brought To You By Ad Lucem Tax Services Christ commanded us to give to the poor and needy, thus charitable deductions are probably the most important deduction that a Christian has to claim on his or her return. You may deduct donations to religious, charitable, scientific, literary, educational and other non-profit groups. Charitable deductions are an itemized deduction. The government allows you a certain amount of deductions, which you may claim “automatically”, regardless of your actual itemized expenses. This deduction is called your standard deduction and the amount varies with what your filing status is. This year, the standard deduction is $6,300.00 for those who file single or married filing separately, $9,250.00 for those who file head of household and $12,600.00 for those who file married filing jointly or a widow (er) with dependent children. Only if your itemized deductions exceed your standard deduction, should you elect to claim your actual deductions by filing a Schedule A on your 1040 return. Only organizations that are recognized by the IRS as a qualified charitable organization are deductible.
Contributions to specific individuals, political organizations, groups that devote a substantial part of their activities to lobbying or influencing legislation, foreign charities and governments are not deductible. The best way to give to these individuals or groups is through a recognized domestic tax-exempt group, which passes on the funds raised to a specific individual or group. You can check if an organization qualifies by asking to see the organization’s IRS letter recognizing it as tax exempt or by checking http://www.irs.gov/ Charities-&-Non-Profits/Search-forCharities. Only money or property given is deductible. Blood given to a blood bank, a donation of your time to a volunteer service or the free use of property to a charity is not deductible. In addition, contributions you give in which you get something of value is return, such a benefit tickets, books, food, etc., only the amount of the contribution given that exceeds the fair market value (FMV) of the goods or services received is deductible. For example, a benefit dinner, which you paid $15 that is only worth $10 at a local restaurant, is only deductible up
to $5.00. The value of raffle, bingo or lottery tickets is considered its FMV thus these items are not deductible. Remember to “Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.” Romans 13:7 Thus, you should keep copies of your checks and of your credit card statements to prove your deductions. For charitable deductions any donation of less than $250 a cancelled check or receipt from the charity will suffice, while for
donations of $250 or more you must obtain a written acknowledgement from the charity. Generally, you should keep these documents for up to three years in case you are audited or need to file an amended return. Stephen A. Continued From Page 4: The Humble Hinge hinges were in use. I’m sure the women at the crucified Savior’s tomb wished it was sealed with a regular door with hinges when they went to put spices on his body. They knew they couldn’t push the massive stone uphill to gain entrance. Nor can we push our way into heaven. There has to be a door, and Jesus is not only the door, but his resurrection provides the hinges on which it swings. One hinge is the authenticity of Christ. Christ is who he says he is. He was verified dead when laid in the tomb but was seen alive three days later by those who witnessed the crucifixion. If he had swooned and regained consciousness, he still wouldn’t have had the strength to move the stone. Only the true Son of God could defeat death. Another hinge is the security
that faith in his resurrection brings to all who believe. We are secure in a sinforgiven, right-standing relationship with our risen Lord to become all he designed us to be while on earth. A third hinge is eternity in heaven because Jesus is preparing a place for us there. Our forever home will be ready when physical death closes our earthly eyes, or if we’re still alive, when we see Jesus coming in the clouds. This Easter season, whenever we see humble hinges at work in our homes and workplaces, let’s remember we don’t need to push against an immovable stone to find redemption. A simple nudge of faith on the door where Jesus stands alive is enough. He says, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture” (John 10:9).
Continued From Page 4: March On enjoy creation, the little God moments in each day, and the prize for which God has called us heavenward in Christ Jesus. I am thankful we can confidently approach God’s throne of grace because we have a great High Priest who understands our weaknesses. That we can lay it out before him being honest in how we feel, even while we are still under the covers. Then we
find ourselves being able to say as the psalmist did, “When I pray, you answer me and encourage me by giving me the strength I need.” Psalm 138:3. The Lord is always faithful; he is our daily provider; he is attentive to our prayers; he encourages our heart and he gives us the strength to daily march on. So before we go to bed this evening let us predetermine that tomorrow, we will march on.

Continued From Page 6: 6 Steps... arguments last too long or get escalated: “Over time I learned it truly was in both of our best interests to STOP TALKING and take time to cool off,” says Laura. “We began to say, “let’s start over” — a phrase I highly recommend using in your own relationship! We watch television in silence for a bit, or spend an hour or two apart, and this time allows us both to cool off and return to a calmer state of mind.” 4. Don’t walk out of an argument. When fights become escalated and adrenaline is pumping, a lot of people cope by leaving the house, just to get away from the stress. “It feels like you’re relieving yourself of the situation,” Meitner writes, “but all you’re doing is making it last longer.” He also suggests never going to bed angry. “The next day is full of awkwardness and tension, which just leads to more arguing.” I will say that my husband and I occasionally go to bed with a conflict unresolved. We’ve both agreed to this strategy because we know I am often overly emotional right before bedtime, and can’t fight well in those moments even when I want to. I’ve never regretted getting a full night of sleep before tackling a problem in the morning. With this strategy, I’ve avoided saying a lot of things I don’t mean when emotions and fatigue are both running high. But you have to know yourself, know your marriage, and know what is the best way to honor God and your spouse in those late night moments of conflict. 5. Be ready to compromise. Withholding forgiveness and resolution until all your “demands” are met will
only make you miserable. It’s also a good indicator you care more about proving your rightness then improving your marriage. In her Crosswalk article, “How to Use Conflict to Grow Closer in Marriage”, Whitney Hopler reiterates this point. “The goal of a bad fight is winning the fight, but the goal of a good fight is resolving the issue.” Often, resolution only comes when both people meet in the middle. 6. Seek guidance if you need it. There are some conflicts that are objectively more serious and dangerous to your marriage than others. Those conflicts need addressed with urgency, and often with outside help. Don’t be afraid to seek the wisdom of trained professionals. At the same time, it’s often the little issues, not the big, that corrode a marriage over time. We’re often more willing to extend grace and forgiveness over big mess-ups, while harboring bitterness over the same little slights that happen over and over. If you and your spouse notice an underlying theme to many of your fights and disagreements, it might be helpful to get some counseling on how to cope with that problem. Be sure to check out all of Meitner’s advice here. Marriage was never intended to be easy. The day you say your vows is only the beginning of learning to love one another. The process of learning to love is often full of wounds, but also rich in experiences of grace and unconditional love. Kelly Givens is the editor of iBelieve.com.

Spiritual Dust I suffer from chronic allergies. It used to just bother me in springtime, but now it’s all year long. I thought an air filter/purifier would help. At first it did and I thought I found my cure. However, after a while, my sneezing, stuffy nose, and watery eyes came back even worse. So, I thought I would bring the machine right next to me as I slept. Bad idea. It was far worse. Finally, I took off the cover. I had already been cleaning the filter regularly following the instructions, but never took off the front cover. Wow! I couldn’t believe how much dust had accumulated. That was what I was breathing in! Now, I have nothing against air filters but not the dust that collects due to neglect of cleaning. This got me to thinking. Oftentimes, we watch for the obvious sins in our life. The ones we struggle with and may have committed prior to our testimony of God’s grace in our lives. We monitor ourselves so as not to “commit” those sins. But there is another problem that I consider “spiritual dust”. These are not the outright sins that we commit but rather the sins of omission that we simply neglect. As we neglect them, they collect. And collect. And collect. Until they have become a mound of dust in the way of the Holy Spirits “purifier” in our souls. These things don’t happen because we DO something wrong, but because we DON”T DO as we ought. Things like: Neglecting to spend regular, daily time with God, reading/studying His Word, attending church, tithing, sharing God’s love for people, etc.
Seth Halpern - Editor These are the routine things that “clean”, if you will, the Christian life. Yes, I know that it is Jesus, NOT rules, that makes us righteous. All I’m saying is that neglecting to maintain our spiritual walk with Christ will produce “dust” even though we don’t commit a specific outright sin. By the way, even pastors, ministry leaders (or Christian newspaper editors!) can collect dust through neglect. Remember, the air purifier was specifically supposed to be cleaning the air, but the dust was conflicting with that purpose and actually it was counterproductive, because instead of producing cleaner air, it was in fact, pushing out dirty air in its place. Those of us whose work involves ministry can be prone to neglect the important things like Bible reading, prayer, and fellowship, because we think we’re around it all the time. Neglect of those “cleaning” routines, make us ineffective at best and counterproductive at worst. The enemy of our souls loves to quietly trip up God’s vessels in that way. What are those areas in your life that have been producing “dust” and quenching the Holy Spirit’s work in your life? Now is a good time to clean out the dust that may have gathered in your soul.
