By Seth Halpern Editor No other name causes as much controversy as the name Jesus. It has caused strife, arguments, wars, revolutions, lawsuits and countless deaths. Strange that a name can cause so much division. Yet, it is not simply the name “Jesus” but the person whom it identifies. Jesus was the most significant person in history. He essentially divided the calendar into before and after his short life on this earth. So, it is interesting how many feathers are ruffled at the mention of his name. There is a recent movie, “God’s

Not Dead 2”, that deals with this very issue. But more than in a film, this issue is an ever present lawsuit waiting to happen. The Separation of Church and State issue (which by the way, is found nowhere in the constitution) is a very touchy subject. Teachers, coaches, and faculty who are found to be praying anytime or anywhere on school property have found themselves in hot water. This is not limited to schools but any public or government facility. Even many “Christian” movies will talk about God but tread very lightly around the name of Jesus. Perhaps that is because “God” can symbolize any number of religions, faiths, or non-faiths. Who knows what you are

referring to when you say “God”. It is not an exclusive term so anyone can mean whatever they want when they refer to God. But “Jesus” is a different story. Now, it has singled out a certain faith. So, what is it about the followers of Jesus that riles people so much? It is true that many who consider themselves “followers” don’t really conduct themselves in a manner worthy of their calling. Some are obnoxious, unforgiving, judgmental, and give Jesus a bad name. However, I’m talking about those who live, behave, and communicate in a way that truly follows and pleases Jesus. Why are unbelievers so critical of them and the

Jesus they follow. Perhaps it is because they don’t see a “tolerant”, “live and let live” attitude from those people. After all, no one wants to hear that what they’re doing is wrong or “sinful”. That’s not very “tolerant”. Perhaps it’s because followers of Jesus say that He is the only way to Heaven. How dare you judge someone and say that they won’t go to Heaven if they don’t believe in Jesus. How “closed-minded” and “intolerant”. Why are you the only ones who know the way to Heaven? These are very

Suspended By Tamara Sturgis So, a girl I used to play roller derby with, sent me a casting call application via facebook and that’s how we ended up on Shipping Wars, but wait, I’m jumping ahead, let’s go back a bit. I was never a Sunday school type of girl. I did not grow up in the church and I am a little rough around the edges. In fact, I have been driving a semi-truck with my husband, Todd, for over two decades and we used to cuss like...well, like a trucker. We could make a sailor blush. We had a good life, but something was missing. The bar scene had played itself out, even though that’s where I met my husband, but that’s a story for another time. It’s a good one too! (God can and will use you wherever you are at) Things took a turn for the worse and after 10 years of trucking and three major media projects later, we were on the verge of divorce. Todd was so invested in the success of his current project, that he was unaware of the state of our marriage. When the project was finished, it went on to become one of the best reviewed MMA documentaries of all time. The problem? Our marriage was almost finished, as well. He was married to IT and I was not happy about
Todd & Tamara Sturgis THAT! I was thinking about going home to mama’s, but God had other plans. Through His divine grace, we ended up at a church, getting marriage counseling, for free! Counseling started out rough, but pretty soon, we learned to love and respect each other, once again, but not before Todd understood not to do anymore projects that required all his time and all our finances, of course. Once our marriage was back on track, we began to ask questions about God, church and tithing. Bill, our counselor, invited us to church and we went. Although, unsure what to expect, we kind of enjoyed the whole experience, but Todd was left with questions. We decided to go again the following weekend and lo and behold the very questions Todd had, were specifically

By April James Suspended! My heart did extra beats as I opened the DMV envelope seeing the words in big bold capitalized letters, “NOTICE OF INTENT TO SUSPEND”. Unbelief raced through my mind with questions, what and why, is my license being suspended. I breathed a sigh of relief upon pulling the letter out discovering it was suspending the vehicle registration on a scooter. My daughter had moved and could not take it with her so it had been stored in my garage. She needed funds and planned to sell it; I thought I would buy it to help her out and that it just might be fun to putter around town on it, not to mention the gas savings. With paperwork in hand I went to DMV to inquire if any different rules from the state she had lived in, just to make certain I did everything legit. I discovered the laws varied from where she had been, there the scooter was not required to be licensed before driven on the road; in California it is. So I started the registration process but was unable to finish, since it had not been registered in the other state the dealers bill of sale was not acceptable. To make a few months’ story short, it took three visits to DMV, two dealings with the local sheriff, dealer contact for Manufacturer
Certificate of Origin, and more. When I first started the process I contacted my insurance carrier to discover they don’t insure scooters. I would have to look elsewhere. When the scooter was finally registered, I was then told I would need a motorcycle license; again not required in former state. By this time, I was frustrated with everything and thought of just selling it. I considered taking pictures so I could put it on Craig’s List, but getting insurance had long slipped my mind… that is, until the letter arrived today. As I contemplated the whole rigmarole I thought, wouldn’t it be nice if I slipped and forgot spiritual things that I would get reminders, then I could take action to get back on course. Quickly following that I thought, perhaps I do, but I won’t know about them if I don’t open the Book. If I had set the DMV letter unopened on my desk, I would not have known my error; ignorance of DMV’s instructions wouldn’t get me out of the consequences. Likewise, if I don’t open the Bible to read the letters inside I could be missing important details, some with dire consequences. Delightfully Impossible By Paula McBride There is an Oswald Chambers quote boldly written in my prayer journal that encourages me when I feel my petitions are ineffective. “The saint is hilarious,” Chambers writes, “when he is crushed with difficulties because the thing is so ludicrously impossible to anyone but God.” Chambers is known for big words and deep thoughts, so I pulled out a dictionary to unravel the meaning in that statement. (I actually used a kid’s dictionary because I need simple!) So taking one word at a time, here is how the search went. Saint. That was the last name of a missionary martyr. It’s what some think anyone who is good and helps others is called. But I think Chambers’ meaning here is what Merriam Webster’s Word Central defined as a holy or godly person. The Bible uses saints to describe those who followed the teachings of the apostles after Christ returned to heaven, so that applies to us who follow Jesus. If we are in relationship to Him, Chamber’s statement is speaking to us. The saint being hilarious really got to me. Hilarious means wildly funny. Not the usual view we have of a whitehaired, long bearded, robe-wearing man. It’s ROFL, rolling on the floor
laughing. I think it’s like Sarah when she laughed when she overheard that she was going to have a baby at age ninety. A saint is hilarious when crushed? Ouch! The other day I was following a recipe that said something about crushing a clove of garlic. When I asked my daughter how to do it, she grabbed a knife and slammed the flat side of it on the poor, unsuspecting clove. It squirted out its innards, but that’s the way the flavor comes out. Crushed. Broken down into tiny bits with pressure. Difficulties. What’s hard for you may not be what’s hard for me. You may be dexterous with your hands. I can’t tie a knot in my shoe. A difficulty is a hardship, as in really, really hard. Here’s my favorite. Ludicrous. No, it’s not a rap singer’s name. The easy definition is laughable because of being ridiculous. Using bigger words, it means obviously absurd, meriting derisive laughter or scorn. Our difficulties are laughable, ridiculous, or deserving of scorn? How dare you diminish my difficulty! (I think we better move on.) Impossible. Incapable of being or

Years ago, a student shared with me an article that said, “God adds and multiplies and the enemy subtracts and divides.” History is replete with leaders
up in me. How dare they say that! I turned to God in prayer. What has happened, Lord? How did we get here? I thought of the many evangelists who shared their heart of love for our nation and how grateful they were that we had sent missionaries into their nations. Now God was telling them America was in trouble and sending them to us. I thought of Jackson Senyonga who came to our region over a decade ago to encourage us, but also to exhort us. I will never forget the words he spoke that brought me to my knees. “The condition of society is the report card of the church” Oh merciful God, help us.

addressed! Weird. Once again, we kind of enjoyed the experience; I mean, the music was pumping and the people were nice, but again, Todd had questions, you know, like doubting things he saw or heard. We went again the following weekend and, “put down the bacon and grab the tofu” if the very questions and doubts Todd had were not addressed! Again! Specifically! Weird. At that point we knew that there was something to this; that there was a
higher power at work here. We, at that time could not have even fathomed the love and grace of a sovereign God. I mean, at that point, I didn’t even know what the cross was about or that my life was about to be radically changed by a very special, one of a kind, you might say, man, named Jesus Christ. I have a lot more words and stories to share and I hope you follow along with me on this amazing journey and precious gift we call life.

And then come the best words in the Bible and in the lives of us saints. BUT GOD! (Can I hear a “Hallelujah”?) Our God delights in doing the impossible! He creates a world from nothing, parts waters, sends food from heaven, routs armies, changes the minds of kings. He heals the sick, calms storms, raises dead people to life. He rips immense curtains from top to bottom, sacrifices his own son and victoriously resurrects him. In addition, he builds mansions
for us in heaven so we can live with him for eternity where there are no difficulties. Oh, friend! If you are crushed with impossible difficulties, lean into Father God. He sees the finish line. We see the ridiculous, the impossible, the hopeless. God sees perfect work being completed in you and me and is cheering us on with his “Well done, good and faithful servant!” God will answer our prayers. He’s in control. Maybe he wants us to relax and even see a little humor in our circumstances. Ludicrous, you say? Nothing is impossible with God.

Proverbs 6:19 tells us “God hates the sowing of discord among the brethren.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Jeremiah 15:19 tell us how to resolve this problem, “you will be my mouth piece if you separate the precious from the vile.” The precious is the character of our Savior who taught us in Matt 5: 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. Psalm 133 1-3 Behold how good and pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity! It’s like costly anointing oil, flowing down . . .Yes, that’s where God commands the blessing, life forevermore. They will know we are Christians by our love! Let’s let the real Jesus be seen who is alive and well and living in the United States of America!
Wilson Baby Wilson is one of the younger children at Samaritan Village. He arrived when he was about six months old and is now 14 months old, and doing wonderfully. The history that we have about little Wilson is pretty limited. He was found abandoned late at night in an area of Arusha, Tanzania called Kikongo. After the Police and Social Welfare searched and could find no family, he was brought to Samaritan Village. At first, he cried continually, but within days of experiencing the safety and love at Samaritan Village, he calmed and has become a smiling, happy little baby boy! Praise God! In spite of a frightening and sad start, Wilson’s future is bright. If a loving, eligible family does not adopt him, he will grow up at Samaritan Village. He will receive the love and care that he needs to become the healthy, happy child God intended. Each child at Samaritan Village enjoys a loving
home environment. Samaritan Village is blessed to have stable, dedicated staff, who know and love the Lord, caring for the children at Samaritan Village. Indeed, most of the staff have been at Samaritan Village since it began. When he is old enough, Wilson will attend a private, Christian school where he will receive the education he will need to reach his full potential. “Get Out of Town!” --San Francisco By Seth Halpern Yuba City is a few hours away from some of the most popular (and beautiful) tourist destinations in the world! Lake Tahoe to the east and San Francisco to the (south) west are arguably two of the most amazing place on earth. Recently, my wife and I had an impromptu getaway to San Francisco. I wanted to do something besides cake and ice cream for my birthday (not that I don’t love cake and ice cream). It had been many years since our last visit and frankly, it is a place that I have intentionally avoided. I am strongly opposed to much of the politics of the city and the celebration of its highly touted alternative lifestyle. That said, the beauty, architecture, culture and activities of the golden gate city are undeniable. That is undoubtedly why people of all nations and languages can be seen throughout the city. We only had a few days to spend there but we packed a lot in. I tend to do that. My wife likes to take things slower (“stop and smell the roses”) whereas I want to check off as many things as possible from my list. Upon arriving into the city via the Bay Bridge, we made a quick stop to check in at the boutique, Civic Center area hotel, Inn at the Opera. The rooms were
small but clean and was a few hundred feet from the Symphony and Opera House. We didn’t plan to go there but what a site to behold, with City Hall dominating the landscape. We took a drive through Golden Gate Park and a quick visit to the de Young museum before attempting the challenging drive through Chinatown for dinner. We rested up that evening for a long and fun day ahead. We started out to Fisherman’s Wharf using my GPS. Unfortunately, it took us to the city dump! Good thing I’m not reviewing the GPS! Anyway, we eventually found our way to Fisherman’s Wharf and spent some time on Pier 39. Yes, it is the most touristy spot in San Francisco, but it’s fun. We started at the 7D Experience, an overpriced motion-simulator ride with an interactive component. It was fun but lasted 5 minutes. We purchased a combo package that included a Sunset Bay Cruise later in the day. We had lunch next door at the wonderful Players Sports Grill & Arcade. Think of it as “Dave and Buster’s” with a view. While we marveled at the bay beside us and enjoyed the fresh air through the open window, Matt, the General Manager, came by our table and chatted with us a bit about the history and vision
of the restaurant, tiki bar, and arcade. After our chat, Angie and I played a few games and challenged each other in Skeeball (I won) while we waited for our food. My Kobe beef burger and her garden burger were each excellent, and not “run of the mill” Even the bread was special ordered. The garlic fries didn’t disappoint either. With both of us stuffed, we needed to walk off lunch, so we started walking past some very talented street performers to get to another part of Fisherman’s Wharf. We spent some time walking through Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. We had fun taking pictures next to famous wax lookalikes. The detail was simply impeccable. The backgrounds for many celebrities made for a memorable picture. Some exhibits provided props like a chair to sit at the table with Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffiany’s” and a bike to sit behind E.T. They make great pictures. Honestly, though, I was little concerned that there might be too much honoring either LGBT (this was San Francisco) or the horror genre. While there was a bit of it, it was certainly not an emphasis and we were able to walk quickly by anything that could have made us uncomfortable. Another fun place in the neighborhood
was the Museum Mecanique which is essentially an arcade/museum featuring hundreds of arcade games from decades past. Some of them were a century old. It’s great to take younger people to show them what gaming was like back in the day! Although I played some of them in my past, most pre-dated me. Angie and I did play a game of Pong, in which she beat me 15-0, which shut me up from earlier Skeeball victory! We did get to see a lot of the city from its natural beauty and man-made extravagance to its impoverished areas. There was much to praise the Lord for on this trip but there was also a sadness to see how the world and its politics and rebellion can hurt the beauty that God bestows on His creation. All in all, we had a great time and God even gave Angie an opportunity to share with a young man at Pier 39. We prayed for him later and remembered that even in the midst of people doing their own thing, the Lord reigns. There is much to do in San Francisco, and we look forward to a return trip (especially when 100 degree days return) until then, we need to remember to pray for the leaders of the city that God would turn their lives around to follow Him.

When “Fun” Requires “Faith”... (The Story of Millennium Family Entertainment Center) It was the fall of 1993 when Amy Wilder and Sara Core moved from Germany to our small town of Yuba City. Their father was in the Army and the family had been stationed overseas for the past 3 years when he took a job with Sutter North as an orthopedic surgeon. Over the next 23 years, the girls finished school, worked, got married, and raised their families right here in the Yuba-Sutter community. Growing up, the girls experienced the lack of activities for youth in the area. In high school, the “cool” thing to do on a Friday night was meet up at Carl’s Jr to find out where the parties were at and carpool from there. Two years ago, as adults now with children of their own, the girls felt that there was still a lack
of entertainment for youth in the area, so they decided to do something about it. “We got tired of saying ‘Someone should open something for kids’, and so we decided ‘why can’t we just do it ourselves?’” Amy explains. And in that moment, the idea for Millennium Family Entertainment Center was born. Millennium Family Entertainment Center is an almost 19,000 square foot facility which will include laser tag, an arcade, rock climbing, bumper cars, food, birthday party services, and a large play structure. Aside from just being a fun place to go, the girls are more excited about the opportunity of giving back to the community. Sara describes that, “We want to be able to help kids and teens in the area in a lot
of different ways. We want to provide incentives for studying and good grades, scholarships, opportunities for organizations to fundraise, and offer a safe and fun place for kids and families to spend quality time together. We want to be a staple in the community for giving back.” Of course with any new idea, the two were faced with every roadblock. Naysayers provided a constant stream of negativity as to why the idea was going to fail. Banks didn’t want to fund the start-up, especially the mostly agricultural banks in the area. It was a different type of business and they didn’t understand it. “We started from nowhere,” Sara explains “I remember someone asking me if they could see
our business plan and I told them we were just finishing it up. In the next second, I turned around to Google ‘What is a business plan?’”. At one point, the girls were even scammed by a local man offering to help them apply for grants; he is now facing multiple counts of fraud. The only thing that has kept the two on track is their faith and the amazing support of their families and friends. “Everything that could go wrong did. Every way we turned, we were faced with some sort of obstacle. Looking back, every situation was an opportunity to pray about it to find an alternative solution. If we would have

For ten years, Boy Scout Troop 647, chartered by the Church of Glad Tidings, had been a thriving troop in the Yuba City area with its focus on character-building and servant leadership. During that time, under Scoutmaster George Shaw, Troop 647 enabled ten Scouts to earn the Eagle rank, which is the highest award in Scouting. Unfortunately, in 2013 the Boy Scouts of America decided to lower their standards and Christian values due to relentless pressure from homosexual activists. Even though approximately two-thirds of the polled membership was against it, the national board voted to allow practicing homosexual scouts into Boy Scout troops. The leadership at the Church of Glad Tidings discussed this decision and decided to look for other options for an outdoor youth program. Not long after the BSA decision, a group of men, some of whom had spent

years with the Boy Scouts, announced that they were forming a new scout-like organization for boys that would be Bible-based and Christ centered. This new national organization, Tr

Continued From Page 1 - What’s Wrong With Jesus common questions of those who react to followers of Jesus. But it isn’t the followers saying this; it’s Jesus himself. He says “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, NO ONE comes to the Father EXCEPT through me “(caps mine) John 14:6. His followers are just stating what Jesus himself proclaimed. Maybe the question is why should you listen to Jesus? Aren’t there founders or leaders of other “religions” that have made great claims who could be followed. What makes Jesus special? Well, there are many other religions and many powerful religious leaders. Here is the difference: Jesus is not telling us simply to follow his ideas or even his behavior. He is telling us to put our faith in HIM
as our redeemer. He did not die because he was controversial. He died as part of the plan of God the Father, the God of the Bible, to be a complete sacrifice to pay the debt for our sin so that we don’t have to bear that punishment ourselves. That is the gospel in a nutshell. So again, my headline question is “What is wrong with Jesus?” All He has wanted to do was to take our place in the punishment for our own sins so that we can not only have freedom from the guilt and shame of sin and the power over sin in this life, but also spend eternity with the God the Father in Heaven. Sounds like someone I should get to know instead of fighting over. Have you seen people who have met

him? People who have really met Jesus at the absolute bottom of their lives in the pit of their sin (whether drugs, other addictions, poverty, sickness) know the joy of meeting and living for Jesus because he has given them new life. We print many of those stories in this paper. I haven’t seen a single testimony of someone’s life changing from bad to good as a result of believing committing their life to Atheism or even another religion. Jesus cleans us up but we have to be willing. So in the final analysis, we each need to ask “What do I think of Jesus?” There are only a few options. Either we believe he was a madman, delusional about who he thought he
was, or a liar who simply wanted to deceive people into honoring him. We know that he existed in history and there is tremendous evidence of the miracles, the resurrection and more. What we may try to do is to ignore him altogether, but that’s not really an option. It’s like turning around because you don’t want to see the truck that’s coming at you. It doesn’t change the horrible outcome. You must decide. Indecision is a decision. So, what’s wrong with Jesus in your life? Having to struggle and fight for every step has taught us so much. We’ve had to work for all of it. It’s definitely been a test of faith.” Amy recalls at one point feeling so down and defeated, “It was right after ANOTHER bank had told us no. I had to go to Sacramento to pick up paint. I turned the radio off and just prayed the entire way. I told God how discouraged I was. I knew He had a plan, but I was getting impatient waiting for Him to bring it to light. I cried and pleaded, but ultimately just needed to give it to Him to handle.” That evening, Amy had a random email from a friend who had shared a message from Joel Osteen that said “We all face situations that seem impossible. It’s easy to become discouraged, but the Scripture says God is going before
us. You may not have the connections right now to accomplish your dreams, but you don’t have to worry. God is going before you and arranging the right breaks, the right opportunities.” Amy continues, “God has blessed our journey every step of the way. WHAT IS REAL REALITY
‘the property of being real’, and one of the definitions of ‘real’ is ‘to have concrete existence’. Thus, ‘virtual reality’ means ‘to have the effect of concrete existence without actually having concrete existence.” Ah wouldn’t that be like…non-concrete, concrete and nonexistent? Anyway, I guess these escape mechanisms are preferable to drowning reality in alcohol or bending it through mind altering drugs. The fact of the matter is we cannot create our own reality…reality comes from God and not from the world. The Bible says: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:2. (“the world” here means man’s way). In other words; be transformed from man’s way to the reality of God. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (“the world” here means, all people) This is the reality that must not be altered or ignored. It is the only reality that I can truly live with…and so can you!

On April 15th, we celebrated 10 years of printing The Ambassador Newspaper! It was a wonderful evening of appreciation, fellowship, worship and of course, chocolate. After all it was the Ambassador 10 Yr Appreciation DESSERT! I was blessed to have the opportunity to share my heart, vision, calling and appreciation to many of the people who have made it possible- our partners! There were so many people to thank that I had to do it in groupsDesigners, Writers, Delivery help, and of course Financial Partners. I also got a chance to share some of the feedback from inmates, elderly, struggling and others who have been blessed and encouraged by this publication. It is so encouraging to hear and read the thanks of these readers who have been touched by God via The Ambassador. By Jon Skillman What is it about reality that causes us to go to such great lengths to avoid it? Movies, Television and novels temporarily remove us from the reality of our daily lives, but these types of diversions are considered passive entertainment, and with the possible exception of television, are not what one would call addictive. Now video games are another matter. These interactive games can become quite addictive…I have grandsons whose thumbs are growing biceps, and reality is their current level of proficiency. Cellphones, both smart and dumb, can distract us from the reality that surrounds us. We become so intent on the glow of their tiny screens that we ignore the loved one sitting across the table. Of course said loved one, in all likelihood, is also bowing to the glow. We follow the glow oblivious to the reality surrounding us... the reality that we are about to tumble into the mall fountain or about to step into the path of a, very real, Waste Management truck. One of the latest reality escapes is something called, virtual reality. I’ve never quite understood what virtual reality really is, so I searched the net for enlightenment. Hold on to your hats because the following definition just might blow your mind: “Many people take ‘virtual’ to mean fake or unreal and ‘reality’ to refer to the real world. This results in an oxymoron. The actual definition of virtual, however, is ‘to have the effect of being such without actually being such.’” Umm isn’t that like…fake? The definition goes on to explain: “The definition of reality is,
