by Bryan Elliff Most people think there’s something wrong with the world. Ask almost any of our nation’s recent immigrants and they’ll tell you that without hesitation. That’s because when they came here to find something better, they were fleeing something worse, usually violence or poverty. But it’s not just immigrants who think so. Ask any born-and-raised American and they’ll tell you what’s wrong— economy, race relations, education. At least, I imagine that this is what they will tell you since all of our political candidates’ campaign with the clarion call of “change.” I would say that this dissatisfaction with the world is increasing, but I can’t
really be sure. One would assume that there was just as solid a recognition of the world’s problems among the generations who lived through WWII, the civil rights battles, and Vietnam.
Most laws don’t make people nice to each other. They just punish people when they aren’t. But perhaps there is an increase of dissatisfaction among my particular generation of millennials. We must be getting older. Solutions While almost all of us may agree that there is something horribly wrong with

the world, we may disagree very much on what it is and how to fix it. While walking through my urban neighborhood a few weeks ago I met a woman who asked me for bus money.
She was in bad shape, with pants 8 sizes too big and a vague and disjointed story. She claimed to have been attacked the night before by the railroad tracks and was looking for a way to get home. Most noticeably she hadn’t showered in weeks. As I walked her to my house so that she could shower and my wife
could drive her home, I asked her what she considered to be the biggest need in her life. She replied, “I need to get back home to Tennessee because this kind of thing just doesn’t happen there.” But she’s wrong. Changing geography would not ultimately fix her problems. I can almost guarantee you that “this kind of thing” does in fact happen in Tennessee, and everywhere else in the world. If we are ever going to find solutions, we are going to have to look deeper for problems. Clearly, many have been more perceptive than my neighborhood acquaintance and offered more

• Summer Soul Refresher • by Paula McBride Recently, some kindergarteners had a Zoom lesson in which they were shown a slide such as one with a picture of an apple and an orange. They had to select the fruit they preferred and explain why they chose it. One slide that intrigued me had a photo of a pool and photo of a lawn sprinkler. The kids were asked where they would rather play, in a pool or in the sprinklers. The answers brought lots of smiles and laughter, but one thing was clear: the kids loved both and were refreshed by them on a hot day. While our bodies can be refreshed by summer activities, have you considered that our souls may need refreshing, too? The Bible uses the analogy of thirst to illustrate that there is an inside part of us that gets thirsty for spiritual things just as our bodies get thirsty for water. The Psalmist David, wrote, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God” (42:1). Let’s take a long drink from just a few of the promises God pours out like a stream in the Bible. God promises that He will always love us. “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins” (I John 4:10). Real love is the theme of the apostle John throughout all his books. God’s love is not superficial or shallow, nor does it ever change. His Son proved it by His death on Calvary.
The Lord Jesus promises peace. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you…do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 17:27). Thankfully, this peace is not something we have to earn; it’s a gift. It’s ours if we will just receive it. God promises to fight for us. “The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm” (Exodus 14:14). Sometimes He may have us participate in the battle, but He will be the one who gives the strategy and be right there with us, fighting for us. Our prayers are heard. “And I will do whatever you ask in my name…you may ask me anything and I will do it (John 14:13-14). If we ask anything that is in line with the character of God and His purposes, He will answer it. I don’t know how or when, but I do know He will answer your prayers and mine. God has plans to prosper us. “For I know the plans I have for you…to

by Christy Boals www.gracefilledpurpose.com I saw a flyer at my gym recently for a class called "Fit For Travel." It is for retired people planning to travel this summer who want to be in good shape to do so. It got me thinking about how I travel now, versus the way I would like to travel. I am not talking about travel in the globe-hopping sense, but about my journey with Jesus. I have always viewed life as a journey. Most of my life I have been actively trying to walk with Jesus. However, the way I do so has changed many times over the years. There are so many ways we can travel with Jesus. I think a lot of people have the misconception that once we choose Jesus, everything is perfect after that, but that is not the way it works. We still have a lot of choices to make and that leads me back to how we travel. We can walk with Jesus while still being burdened or scared. We can be carefree and trusting. We can be bitter and angry. We can be unforgiving, unkind, or unfair. The bottom line is that we get to choose what we take with us on this adventure. The good news is that even though we have a choice, we also have a helper in the Holy Spirit. He is the ultimate travel advisor. I received an email
the other day from an organizational blogger on tips for packing your suitcase like a pro. If we pray for help, we will eventually learn to only pack on what Jesus intends for us to carry and as He taught His disciples, those burdens are easy and light. My prayer is that even as we are preparing for vacation travel this summer, we will take a little time to think about how we are traveling in our day-to-day journeys. I hope we can continue to give things to Jesus that He never intended us to carry and that we would become more and more "fit to travel." "When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12

The Ambassador is a free, monthly publication promoting unity and revival among the local Yuba-Sutter area Bible-believing churches. The Ambassador has a circulation of 5,000 - 6,000 and is distributed in local churches and businesses in the community. The purpose of The Ambassador is to pursue the great commission of Christ by making disciples and to encourage, inform, challenge and connect the local body of Christ. We believe in the inspiration and authority of the Bible as the written word of God. We believe that God exists as One, in three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the atoning work of Christ (His death) on the cross and His resurrection is the ONLY means of salvation and the only way to Eternal Life in Heaven. Salvation's Skyrocket In Iran As Opposition To Iranian Regime Rises by Michael Ireland ANS News Service Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei rigged the recent elections to install Ebrahim Raisi as president for one major purpose: to warn citizens who are disgruntled with the regime and angry about their desperate economic predicament to shut up or be killed. That’s the view of Dr. Hormoz Shariat in an interview with ALL ARAB NEWS. “He’s a very hardliner, of course, and he has a track record of violence. They put somebody like him in, who has no problem killing people on the streets. He has that track record – if something happens, he will murder. There was no appeasing of people, helping people, promising,” Shariat said. Shariat – an Iranian Shia Muslim who converted to Christianity – said
the government needed someone at the helm who has no qualms crushing the opposition, and Raisi has proven that he has no problem doing so. ALL ARAB NEWS Editor-in-Chief Joel C. Rosenberg spoke with Shariat – an influential Iranian evangelist and the founder of Iran Alive Ministries and a 24/7/365 satellite TV network – to get his insights on the new regime. At a critical time when the United States is courting Iran to revive the nuclear deal, Rosenberg asked Shariat why the Supreme Leader would choose a candidate who is a known hardliner – the “Hangman of Tehran” – and not try to send a message of moderation to the West? “The last two years, the government has been in real trouble. They lost their support. The government officials have been losing hope, they’ve been living in
fear that maybe our days are numbered, maybe. And some of them have been planning to leave Iran if something happens,” Shariat said. ALL ARAB NEWS reports that since 1,500 protestors were murdered during uprisings two years ago, tensions toward the government have been on the rise. Shariat said the election of Raisi was meant to reassure the political leaders in Iran that the new government would be unafraid to quash opposition. “So with him, it’s a change of policy, of giving encouragement to their own group: ‘Everything is okay, stay, don’t leave. We are in power,’” Shariat said. Despite this unrest – or because of it – more and more Iranians are hearing the Gospel and getting saved. Shariat – who Rosenberg describes as the “Billy Graham of Iran” for his
vast evangelical outreach to the Farsispeaking world – said that in the last year alone, 29% of all salvations his ministry recorded in 20 years on the air were reported. And there could be many more they are unaware of, Shariat said. “Acceleration. That’s the thing. Iran has been open … to the Gospel,” he said. “It’s hard for people to contact us. So we only get a percentage of the

It’s Never Too Late to Intentionally Date Your Spouse: 15 Questions to Get You Started
10 Ways You Can Help The Ambassador Ministry 1. Pray with us and for us to not only sustain but to grow in impact. Pray for our health and for spiritual protection 2. Read it yourself – You will be enriched by reading it.
I want to encourage you to plan an intentional date night. Make the reservations. Get a babysitter. (Trade with another couple so they can do this another night.) And, date. Not just a normal date. That’s not what I mean by intentional. Date. Like you did when you were — well — dating! Get to know each other. Sure, I know, you’re married now. You already “know” each other. But, great couples never stop learning one another. It’s part of becoming one. And, With two unique people — as unique as you — yes you — it will take a lifetime together to fully accomplish. Don’t assume you already know. Explore new territory with each other. Ask questions. Here are a few suggestions to get you started: 1. What do you like best about me? 2. When do you feel most loved in our relationship? 3. If there was only one day you could capture, and repeat again in our marriage, which day would you choose? 4. If you had a “do over” of any day in our marriage, which one would you choose? 5. What is the best way your husband/ wife encourages you?

6. Tell me (again if you’ve told me before) about your favorite childhood memory. 7. What was the first thing that attracted you to me (tell me again)? 8. What do you think is the hardest part about being a man/woman? (Each answer for their gender and the other) 9. What is the greatest fear you have about growing old together? 10. What did you admire about the way your mother and father treated each other? 11. What would you do differently? 12. What is the best way for me to communicate difficult feelings about you so that you are not offended? 13. Do you remember what we talked about on our first date? 14. When you meet a new friend, and they ask you to describe me to them, what do you say? 15. Who do you think was the most influential person/couple in your life in shaping who you are as a husband/wife? How did they influence you? 16. Who is one couple we both know that you’d like to have a marriage like theirs? Why? 17. If there were no limitations in life, what dream would you pursue?

LIFE MATTERS presented by Yuba-Sutter Right To Life Senator Says Abortion Kills Babies, But It Also Hurts Women by Steven Ertelt (LifeNews.com) U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) Thursday continued a push for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a thorough review of the risks to women’s health from a chemical abortion pill made more widely available during the pandemic. During a Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee hearing to review the FY2022 FDA budget request, Hyde-Smith questioned FDA regulatory inconsistencies regarding the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for mifepristone, the chemical abortion drug. In April, Hyde-Smith led a bipartisan, bicameral letter to the FDA that expressed concerns about the agency’s decision not to enforce the mifepristone REMS during the pandemic and requested the agency mandate complete reporting of adverse effects of the drug on women. “The FDA decision is alarming because this drug is dangerous. The limited data we do have shows unacceptable rates of complications for women and girls,” Hyde-Smith said.
United States Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith
“I am particularly struck by the inconsistency of FDA’s actions. For instance, the FDA and CDC imposed a pause on the Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine after reports of blood clots in some women. At the same time, FDA is expanding the approval for chemical abortion pills that have much, much higher risks of blood clots than the J&J vaccine,” she said. More than 20 percent of reported complications from mifepristone use were life threatening or resulted in death, and over 70 percent of reported complications required follow up surgery, including total hysterectomy, Hyde-Smith reported. Acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock, in her response at the hearing and in a letter, said the agency will undertake a review of the REMS for mifepristone. “I will have to look at the conditions
of the REMS. All serious events need to be reported to the FDA. So let me look into that, but it may well be that if a person has a headache after using this drug that that may not have to be reported because it’s a non-serious, self-limited event,” Woodcock said. Hyde-Smith responded, “Twenty percent, though, that’s pretty serious for life threatening or resulting in death.” In January, Hyde-Smith and Congressman Bob Latta (R-Ohio) introduced companion legislation, the Support and Value Expectant (SAVE) Moms and Babies Act of 2021 (S.78 and HR.554), to prevent labeling changes for already-approved abortion drugs; prevent providers from dispensing these drugs remotely, by mail, or via tele-medicine; and prevent FDA approval of new chemical abortion drugs.

--- The Three Worst Bibles You Already Own --There are a lot of Bibles out there. The college that I attended made the translation of the Bible you used a BIG deal. When I showed up on campus as a freshman, I unpacked my trusty NKJV and was quickly informed by one of my senior roommates that what I had just done was tantamount to smuggling contraband. It was not uncommon to be walking through the commons, cafeteria, or dorms and stumble upon a Bible version debate. We heard lectures, sermons and were assigned books to read on the translation debate. These conditions forced me to thoroughly research all sides of the issue. I would like to think that training in this environment has formed me into, at the least, a semi-educated student of the subject. Having read the Bible through numerous times, studying it deeply, and working in pastoral ministry, I believe I now have a definitive list of the worst Bibles. I can tell you from my experience in the counseling office that these Bibles will absolutely cripple any Christian. They make for weak Christians that have a hard time even muddling through this sinful world. Some of them may surprise you.

The Bible You Don’t Know It’s not only important to read your Bible. It’s important to know your Bible. Knowing God’s Word intimately will keep you from sin. Teach you. Correct you. Train you. Encourage you. This book is all of life for a Christian and God invites us to know it and know Him through it. Ps 119:11 – I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. 2 Timothy 3:16 – All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 2:15 – “Do your best
3. The One You Don’t Obey Perhaps the worst Bible you can own is the one you don’t obey. Jesus said something shocking in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” In this passage Jesus directly ties our obedience to our love for Him. Let me ask you some pointed questions, dear reader. Do you love Him? Do you obey His Word? I acknowledge that none of us have arrived, but the Christian life is spent striving to be more like Christ. The things in scripture were written for our instruction and for our good. The Bible teaches us what to obey and how to obey. The Holy Spirit uses God’s Word to produce in us endurance and encouragement, that we might have hope (Romans 15:4). Conclusion Grab a Christian Bible. Read it. Know it. Obey it. What are you waiting for? This was a guest post from Blake Laberee. Blake is a husband, father of two, and the lead Pastor of a small

1. The Bible You Don’t Read
You know the one. The one that collects a nice layer of dust between Sunday services. I’m not talking about your great-grandmas family Bible on the shelf, I’m talking about your “regular” Bible. The one that you have to look all over the house for because you just can’t remember where you put it down several days ago. I wonder how many pains we bring on ourselves because we refuse to open up God’s word daily? Psalm 119:105 tells us, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” How many times do we stumble in life because we refuse to turn on the lamp? If you are not into the practice of reading daily and at least soaking in a few passages to dwell upon, then you are spiritually starving and may not even know it. “True Bible-readers and Biblesearchers never find it wearisome. They like it least who know it least, and they love it most who read it most. They find it newest who have known it longest, and they find the pasture to be the richest whose souls have been the longest fed upon it. When one of our missionaries had to read a certain Book of the Old Testament through a hundred times while he was translating it, he said that he certainly enjoyed the hundredth

It’s all about the pizza!
If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that God can provide through Jesus Christ and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. The Cost of Freedom by Phil Ware Heartlight Magazine Les came back from World War II without one arm and missing several fingers on the other hand. He has carried the price tag of freedom in his own body ever since. He is like so many who are among us who purchased and preserved our freedom at great cost. It is a cost they can never forget because they bear on their bodies and their psyches the horrors of war. But Les came back. Tens of thousands of others never came back from World War II, or Korea, or Viet Nam. The bombing in Saudi Arabia is just another reminder that the vigilance and cost of freedom is high. The old Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young line is
true: “Find the cost of freedom, buried in the ground.” On Independence Day, July 4th, let’s remember that cost! There was a war for all the human race in which freedom was purchased. This freedom was purchased at great cost as well. But unlike the f r e e d o m purchased for Americans, the symbol of that cost is

not a hillside of white crosses or the Tomb of the Unknown or a black wall of names. As precious as these symbols are, they do not compare to the symbol of the Empty Tomb. This s y m b o l transcends ethnic and national boundaries. T h e Empty Tomb is the symbol of the cost of true freedom for all people—the cost of Jesus leaving the security and power of heaven and becoming earthbound and mortal. It is the symbol of the degradation of a crucifixion and mocking and agonizing death on a cross and three days in the ground. But the words to this tune are different. “Find the cost of freedom, no longer in the ground.” You see, the Empty Tomb is the sign
of ultimate freedom. It is the reminder that we no longer have to fear death. All of our mortal fears are conquered. As the apostle Paul says, “Death has been swallowed up in victory: 'Oh Death, where is your victory? O Death, where is your sting?” For the Christian, Independence Day doesn’t come once a year, but every week. The early Christians met on the first day of the week, Sunday, to take of the Lord’s Supper. This is their Independence Day. By the end of the first century, Sunday had become the Lord’s Day. On this day they remembered the Lord’s death and anticipated his return because freedom from death had been won. Independence Day is the day of the Empty Tomb! So as each Sunday approaches, let’s remember the cost of our freedom and give thanks! “Since the children have flesh and blood, he (Jesus) too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.” (Hebrews 2:1415)

The History of Vacation Bible School formalizing the process and method of instruction, and publishing their own VBS textbooks. Two of the earliest and largest publishers of VBS materials – LifeWay and Standard Publishing (now Christian Standard Media) – grew out of these early efforts.
by Nick Hardesty I have fond memories of Vacation Bible School, of days filled with singing songs, playing games, making crafts, eating silly food, and learning more about my faith. Once I became an adult and began working at the parish where those childhood memories were formed, I couldn’t imagine not making Vacation Bible School a part of our ministry to children. For a great many families, summer = Vacation Bible School. I think that’s great, but it also got me wondering: What is the origin of Vacation Bible School? After doing some research, I discovered that VBS not only long predates the 1980’s (when I was a kid); it actually has some roots in Kentucky! VBS in the Beginning Vacation Bible School owes its origin to the Sunday schools, tent revivals, and Bible institutes of early American Protestantism. All of these eventually required some gathering of children to receive instruction over a prolonged period of time, and VBS organically developed from that. In the early 19th century, the phenomenon of tent revival meetings

emerged. A large tent would be erected, and a traveling preacher would come and give rousing sermons over a span of many days. This strategy for reviving churches and bringing people to Jesus quickly spread throughout the country. Since these gatherings were primarily for adults, it was the practice in some places for the children to receive special instruction before the big event in the evening. In 1874, inventor Lewis Miller and Methodist Episcopal bishop John H. Vincent founded the Chautauqua Institution, a teaching camp for Sunday school teachers. Soon after, programs for children and families were established, and this model was copied in “Chautauqua’s” all over the
country. The flame died out after World War II, but the original Institution on Chautauqua Lake in New York exists to this day. In 1898, Mrs. Walker Aylette Hawes established her “Everyday Bible School” to minister to the immigrant children who spent their summer days running the streets of New York City’s East Side. She rented a beer parlor that was not used during the day (it was the only space available), and for six weeks, she gathered the neighborhood children together for worship music, Bible stories, Scripture memorization, games, crafts, drawing and cooking. By 1910, the Baptist and Presbyterian Churches had really taken up the banner of Vacation Bible School,

The Kentucky Connection Many historians trace the origin of tent revivals to Kentucky and the Appalachian territories. One of the earliest, if not the first, took place in July of 1800, when Rev. James McCready held a camp meeting at Gasper River Church, near Bowling Green. Remember Mrs. Hawes? Her “Everyday Bible School” provided a form of instruction similar to VBS as we know it today. Well, she was a sister-inlaw of John A. Broadus, a founder and later president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. Her Baptist missionary and evangelistic zeal is what prompted the effort to found a bible school for children.

10 Guidelines for Christian Living
Hide the Word of God in your heart. It comforts, guides, corrects, encourages – all we need is there. Learn the secret of prayer. Prayer is communicating. Every prayer that you pray will be answered. Sometimes that answer may be “Yes” and sometimes “No,” and sometimes it is “Wait,” but nevertheless it will be answered. Rely constantly on the Holy Spirit.
Quotable Quotes “You know well that government always kept a kind of standing army of news writers who, without any regard to truth or to what should be like truth, invented and put into the papers whatever might serve the [government] ministers. This suffices with the mass of the people who have no means of distinguishing the false from the true paragraphs of a newspaper.”(Editor’s note: I have it on good authority that Jefferson was not referring to The Ambassador! 😊) -- President Thomas Jefferson
the place of church attendance. Be a witnessing Christian. We witness in two ways: by life and by word – and the two, where possible, should go hand in hand. Let love be the ruling principle of your life. Jesus said to those who followed Him, “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another” (John 13:35). The greatest demonstration of the fact that we are Christians is that we love one another. Be an obedient Christian. Let Christ have first place in all the choices of your life. Learn how to meet temptation. Temptation is not sin. It is yielding that is sin. Let Christ through the Holy Spirit do the fighting for you. Be a wholesome Christian. Our lives and appearance should commend the Gospel and make it attractive to others. Live above your circumstances. Don’t let your circumstances get you down. Learn to live graciously within them, realizing the Lord Himself is with you. Guidelines for Christian Living is excerpted from “Peace with God” by Billy Graham, published in 1953, revised and expanded in 1984.
We know that the Holy Spirit prays for us (Romans 8), and what a comfort that should be to the weakest of us. Stand aside and let Him take over all the choices and decisions of your life. Attend church regularly. The visible church is Christ’s organization upon earth. Christians need one another, we need to gather together to worship God and nothing can take

Over the last seven decades, Billy Graham has written 32 books which are an extension of his continued ministry and burden to reach as many people as possible with the Good News of the Gospel. In “Peace with God,” Mr. Graham outlines ten guidelines for Christian living. This classic volume by Billy Graham points to the fact that God is the only way to find authentic personal peace in a world in crisis. Whether we are playing a game, driving a car, or baking a cake, there are certain rules that must be followed for our safety as well as our success. The Bible teaches that the Christian life is one of constant growth. When you were born again, you were born into God’s family. It is God’s purpose that you will grow into fill stature and become mature in Christ. It would be against the law of God and nature if you were to remain a baby and thus become a spiritual dwarf. In 2 Peter 3:18, the Bible says that we are to grow. It implies steady development, constant enlargement, increasing wisdom. For one to grow properly certain rules must be observed for good spiritual health. Read your Bible daily. Do not be content to skim through a chapter merely to satisfy your conscience.

And while we must commend them for their efforts to improve our world, we must concede that the most educated people in the world are often the most evil. Others have prayed to more recognizable gods, running to the practice of religion. But from my perspective, churchgoing, ritual prayers, and incenseburning seem to affect very little change in the millions who take part. Still more have sought solutions in changing the systems and institutions of our society. “If we could achieve fairer laws, we could achieve a better world,” they say. But can better systems really make the world better? Most laws don’t make people nice to each other. They just punish people when they aren’t. As I see it, Jesus’ diagnosis is really the most perceptive. Humanity’s problem, he claimed, is a problem of the heart. He said: “Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.” (Matt 15:19)

is deeper than most have acknowledged. We can sometimes modify behavior with education, put on a show of goodness with religiosity, and deter evil with improved institutions, but we will be missing the point until we make the humbling confession that the real problem is way down deep inside of each one of us. In my experience, that is an admission that most people are too proud to make. The solution? According to the Scriptures, this problem is so deep that it can only be remedied by divine intervention. The Hebrew prophets spoke of a time when God would enter into a new relationship with humankind—a relationship in which God would empower us to goodness by changing our very hearts. And it was exactly this new thing that Jesus claimed to be bringing to the world by shedding his blood. I’m an advocate of working for world change in practical ways. But let’s not forget that the best change happens inwardly and supernaturally, as we call the world and ourselves to contrite repentance and fresh faith in Jesus.

HEADER OP/ED IS AMERICA LOST? by Jon Skillman Is America lost? Has the “Great American Experiment” ended in object failure? When Benjamin Franklin was asked, “What kind of government have you given us?” he replied, “A democracy if you can keep it!” A democracy is defined as: “A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.” Have we kept it? I believe the current administration is pounding the final nail into the coffin of democracy and the last bastion of individual freedom. Why, because this administration is going against everything America was founded on…life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Life is now granted by a woman’s right to choose. Liberty is as fleeting as your tweets on Twitter, and don’t even think about pursuing happiness because your quest can be cancelled by a pod of trolls living under your bridge to free speech and expression. And what about the idea that, “All men are created equal”? That has been changed to; all men are to be given equity…meaning all will be given the same level of poverty by the state… except, of course, the ruling elite. History has shown that all the great civilizations have a life span of two hundred to two hundred and fifty years and we are there. History also tells us that the main reason for a society’s
demise is…abandoning God. I think William Penn nailed it when he said, “Those who will not be governed by God will be ruled by tyrants.” Think about it. What has happened to our society since the banning of prayer in our public schools? Whose standards of behavior and right and wrong are we following since the Ten Commandments were removed from the public square? And who defines or determines truth? Well you can see the progression of the regression in American society by following the “progressive” movement. Truth became relative, perversion normal and morality is whatever suits your personal desires. Lately, police have become criminals and criminals…victims…rioters are peaceful protesters and looters are just receiving their just retribution for the injustice done to past generations by a racist nation. Academia is teaching our children to hate America and to judge others by the color of their skin. We are going backwards and it is tearing us apart. Why? Because we, like all the other great civilizations have abandoned God. Does that mean America is beyond redemption? No! It means that only through repentance, a turning back to God will America be saved. It will probably require a dose of God’s wrath to get our attention, and at this point in our disobedience…it might sting a bit. Jon Skillman can be reached at jps9788@sbcglobal.net

“For” Not “From” Many times, I have used this corner on p. 18 to vent or complain about this or that. Sure, there are things that need improvement, including me (I hear the amens from those who know me well). I’m not saying that I won’t go that direction in the future, but this month I want to tell you what I believe the Lord has been speaking to my soul. I’ve shared this with a few but not with our readers. When I think about the Lord, I would usually think, “God, what can I DO for You?” or “What do You want FROM me? But a month ago or so, I sensed a different question“Lord, what do you want FOR me?” I’d like to go a little further than simple semantics here. My previous thought or prayer was basically, “You’ve done so much for me by forgiving my sins, healing me, transforming, how can I pay you back?” I know theologically, I can never pay Him back, but that doesn’t stop my attitude. Of course, it is a humble, contrite and even logical attitude to have for the One who saved our Soul! I’m not saying to feel anything differently. However, the more I read and understand God’s Word, I see that He has so much more blessing waiting for us! We’re just not ready for it. He has blessings on top of blessings if we will come to Him daily on His terms, not ours. Don’t misunderstand me to interpret this as some prosperity
Seth Halpern - Editor gospel teaching. I don’t believe that God has in mind a sports car or mansion on earth for me. He’s wanting, joy, peace, transformation, reconciliation and so much more. He’s wanting healings of various kinds but maybe not in every way. He wants each of us to have a life filled with purpose. I believe that God also wants FOR each of us some very specific things. He may want us to pursue that lifetime dream (or may change that dream). He may want you or me to start (or participate with) a ministry that resonates with us. It’s exciting to ponder and seek what God wants for us. It is so much better than what we want for ourselves. So, if you love the Lord, maybe instead of asking Him what He wants FROM you, start asking Him what He wants FOR you! That is a question He’ll love to answer.
