the Bible. It would not be strange to see a foreign terrorist burning a U.S. flag. Likewise, it would not be unusual to hear a Muslim or an atheist denouncing the Bible as untrue or unreliable. But for a professing Christian to do the same thing defies reason. It makes me think of the cartoon character sitting on a tree branch while sawing through that same branch— between himself and the tree! A Christian is, by definition, a person who believes God (cf. John 5:24; Rom. 4:3-5; etc.). And God has revealed what we are to believe about Him in only one place—the Bible. There is no other factual basis for the Christian faith. If you do not believe the Bible, you do not believe God. And if you do not believe God, you are not a Christian. It really is that simple. Furthermore, to despise the Bible is to despise God Himself. And to despise God is to despise Jesus Christ, who is "the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature" (Heb. 1:3). You cannot separate the Revealer from His revelation. Speaking about similar conditions late in the 19th century, Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon described such professing Christians well when he said,The Teacher [Christ] is spoken of in the most flattering style, and then His teaching is rejected, except so far as it may coincide with the philosophy of the moment. They talk much about Jesus, while that which is the real Jesus, namely, His gospel and His inspired Word, they cast away. I believe I do but correctly describe them when I say that, like Judas, they betray the Son of Man with a kiss. . . . I believe the Savior thinks their homage more insulting than cont. on pg. 10 - COVER

On July 4, 1776, a group of brave Americans boldly declared themselves and their country to be free from the tyranny of foreign rule. At that moment, however, they were not free at all. They had yet to fight a war in order to gain the freedom they had declared for themselves. Sadly, instead of enjoying American freedom rightly, as freedom based on the restraint of law, some have insisted upon having libertarian freedom—the freedom to do as one pleases without restraint. In the 1960s and 1970s, this false concept of freedom reached a deplorable zenith. Amidst the rampant drug use and open sexual immorality that characterized those two decades, few scenes were more disturbing than the televised images of American citizens burning the American flag. The American flag itself makes no one free. It is only a symbol. But those who burn the flag are not merely attacking a piece of canvas. They are attacking the American system—the very system which, ironically, earned their freedom to attack it. That same system also provides them with military protection, the benefits of civil government, freedom to travel or relocate, political protection when they travel to other countries, and the liberty to worship as they please. Few of these traitors would ever think of leaving America. They are more than happy to stay and reap the benefits, even while harboring a deepseated hatred for the source of those benefits. In many ways, Americans burning the American flag is like the growing
tendency among professing Christians to attack the Bible. I was recently in a religious setting on a Sunday morning with a group that gathers under the name "Christian." In this particular setting, the Bible is generally viewed as only semi-relevant and technically flawed. As I contended for the reliability and unchanging relevance of the Bible, one woman looked at me, placed her hand on a Bible, and said with all sincerity, "I don't care whether this is true or not. It does not affect my relationship with God." Shocked, I responded by asking her how she would have known about Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection, or the beauty of being saved by grace through faith, apart from God's revelation in the Bible. She gave no substantive response, but steadfastly maintained her view that even though the Bible is filled with errors and is generally unreliable, her faith in God remains unaffected. This woman was not original in her opinion. She was only reflecting what much of modern "Christian" scholarship has been teaching since the 19th century: that the Bible is filled with factual and textual errors; that much of the New Testament was largely edited by later writers who refashioned the religion to suit their own beliefs instead of faithfully preserving "the apostles' doctrine" (Acts 2:42; cf. 1 John 4:6); that Paul did not actually write many of the letters that bear his name—and so on. Don't get me wrong; these folks are free to hold their opinions about the Bible. But in my view, they are being inconsistent when they call themselves Christians at the same time. The Christian faith, after all, is grounded on what is revealed in

Wisdom for Today from Genesis 2-3
Living As Free Men
by Jan Duke
When we think about the economy and lack of jobs, we contemplate the pain associated with the governments’ attempt to cut costs and reign in spending. Let’s look at the first job created: professional landscaper! Yep, old Adam got the cushy job, as there were no other applicants lined up around the building waiting for an interview. He didn’t need to install a watering system, as water came up from the ground to sustain life. He didn’t have to work, because there really wasn’t any. I’m not quite sure what Gen: 2:15 means about “tending and caring” but the place was lush with lots of trees and fruit. The Lord only gave him one rule: don’t eat from the tree of Knowledge in the center of the garden. Before long the Lord realized that Adam needed a wife to help him in this landscape business and keep him from being lonely. Maybe he was having difficulty naming all those birds and animals without a woman’s advice! Enter Eve who promptly was enticed by Satan’s bling and silver tongue. She wanted wisdom, knowing she was violating the one “rule” of the garden: Don’t eat that fruit! Thus the longest running movie, “The Blame Game” began. By Gen. 3:23, Adam and Eve had lost their home, their mortgage and equity and were locked out of The Garden of Eden Mansion, Notice of Default taped to the windows, banished to rental property and a life of sweat, weeds and crabgrass, pain in child birth, and slithering snakes. It was the early cowboy lament of “I lost my
wife, my job, my house, my dog, and my truck!” Did Adam and Eve set events in motion to change their lives forever? Are we still paying for their decisions? You betcha! Why are we surprised that life is still hard, weeds still grow, slithering snakes still approach us with “a good deal” and some of us have lost our homes? Every decision we make during our lives has a cause-and-effect principle. Overspend, under earn, increasing debt. Self-indulge, under save, no reserves for emergencies. Live for today with no plan for tomorrow. America is a country of want-it-now, live-on-credit-pay-later or EZ in, EZ out bankruptcy. Adam and Eve didn’t starve, but they also didn’t keep their home. God did not give them a bailout for disobedience, nor did He lie to them about the rules. The only home we are guaranteed is in Heaven if we accept His plan of salvation. I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a home behind it. However, if you are a homeowner in this potential Notice of Default Doom, or you are waiting for a loan modification, silver-tongued promise of salvation, pay attention. Statistically, only 5-10% of applicants get “saved,” while the other 90% are drinking the kool-aid. Contact an experienced short sale Realtor to help you evaluate your options today before the wrought iron gates to Eden close forever. Jan Duke is a Re/Max Gold Realtor. We will soon celebrate Independence Day, the birth of our great nation. It is a time when we should be thankful for our forefathers who took brave steps and sacrificed greatly to gain the many freedoms we enjoy. While many seem to simply use the day for festivities with little thought of those who sacrificed to give birth to our great nation, may we never forget that our freedoms as Americans were not and are not free. One of the very precious freedoms we enjoy is our freedom of religion and the freedom to worship God. It too is not free. The protection of that freedom calls for the vigilance of every Christian, for it is being attacked on many fronts. The freedoms we enjoy as Christians were also purchased at a great price, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who declared: “No one takes it (my life) from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again” (John 10:18). What a great sacrifice! Peter admonishes us to “Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God” (I Peter 2:16). He instructs us to “submit ourselves for the Lord’s sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as supreme authority or to governors” (1 Peter 2:15). While we may not care for those in office, the challenge has been given to us to submit ourselves
to the rule of law “for the Lord’s sake.” In verse 12 we are challenged to “live such good lives” that unbelievers around us will “see our good deeds and glorify God.” James, the brother of Jesus, gives us more challenging words by which we are to live the Christian life. In James 2:14 he asks the question, “What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?” He answers the question in verse 17 with these words, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” It is only as we follow our Lord’s commandments that we learn the true meaning of really being free men. As He declared to the Jews who believed in him, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32). As Christians, we have not only received our freedom from the condemnation of our sins but we have also crossed over from death to life (John 5:24). Christ said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). As Americans, let us continually be thankful to our forefathers for the freedoms we have and do everything we can to preserve them. As Christians, let us give thanks for the freedoms we have in Christ and live as His good servants.

Discussing important issues of faith and culture
I suffer from a terrible case of neglect. I neglect leftovers in the refrigerator and end up with mold worthy of a laboratory. I neglect dusting and end up with enough bunnies to build a real one. I neglect weeds in my flower beds and end up with a jungle. Neglect has consequences. If I don’t change the oil in the car, I get engine trouble. If I don’t treat the dog for fleas, I itch. If I don’t pay the taxes….well, let’s not go there. Actually, taxes brought problems to a head in Colonial America. The shots fired at Lexington and Concord were the consequences of what historians call the Period of Neglect. Because England was busy with global military conflict, the colonies were forced to develop systems of selfgovernment. They established their own legislative assemblies, maintained their own commerce, protected themselves from enemies, and enjoyed religious freedom. When England finally found time to take a closer look at the American colonies, rather than listen to competent colonial leadership, Britain reacted with a heavy hand. They imposed harsh taxes to help pay their war expenses and failed to provide for an American voice in Parliament. The rest of the story, as you know, is the reason we celebrate the Fourth of July. To our benefit, England suffered the consequences of her neglect, and a strong, fiercely independent nation was born. We citizens of the land of the free and the home of the brave are invited to be citizens of the heavenly kingdom, too. Heaven’s Sovereign never neglects us.
He will never leave us or forsake us. He is intimately acquainted with all our ways and loves us in spite of them. Over and over in Scripture, God is revealed as compassionate, gracious, merciful, forgiving, and so indescribably awesome that words lack expression to describe Him. Biblical authors try, though. By personal experience, they describe our Sovereign as a refuge or sanctuary, as a God who avenges our injustices, and a helper of the fatherless. God even reveals His thoughts to mankind (Amos 4:13) and relents from sending calamity (Joel 2:13). God is able to keep us from falling and present us faultless in His kingdom (Jude 24). He is able to do more than we can ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20). He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to Him through Jesus (Hebrews 7:25). Our Sovereign will not neglect those who are His, nor will He neglect the larger realm of mankind. Psalm 67 calls for songs of praise to God because He governs the nations with justice and guides the people of the whole world. Scripture reveals, repeatedly, God orchestrating the affairs of government and using unlikely rulers to fulfill prophecy, foreshadow His plan, and bring about His purposes. Our nation may seem far removed from the Biblical principles our founding fathers had in mind in 1776, but God sees a step closer to the fulfillment of His eternal kingdom. There will come a day when “people all over the world will fear him” (Psalm 67:7). What a reason to celebrate! Our Father in heaven will never neglect us. Let’s praise Him!
Our Father in heaven will never neglect us. Let’s praise Him!

“Lazarus Awakening" by Joanna Weaver I’ve loved Joanna Weaver since I read her first book, “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World”. Her books are well crafted, enjoyable to read, able to change your life...and a boatload of fun to teach! Her new release, “Lazarus Awakening”, takes what little information we have about the brother of Mary and Martha and expounds upon it brilliantly. The basic premise of the book is the idea that Jesus loves us apart from what we do. Sounds simple...but it is oh, so very deep! Joanna unpacks such short phrases such as “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep” and takes you to such delightful places in your own relationship with God. Reading “Lazarus Awakening” stirred up a renewed desire to engage God’s Word and to teach it to others. I’ve enjoyed the privilege of teaching from each of Joanna’s previous books... ...and cannot wait to present the material in this one! Her chapter on “Tomb Dwelling” alone makes the journey worth taking. For a guy who didn’t say much of anything in Scripture, Lazarus has a lot to share with us through Joanna! I’m so excited to add this to my shelf of ‘must keep’ books, and so hoping God blesses Joanna with another series to write. I’m giving this book the Golden

Bigots Among Us?
By: Alan Shlemon - Stand To Reason - STR.org If you’re a Christian and oppose samesex marriage, then millions of people think you’re a bigot. How should you respond? Bigot. It’s a nasty term. Usually, it’s reserved for the most intolerant individual. Usually, it refers to closed-minded and angry people. And usually, it’s applied to Christians who oppose same-sex marriage (SSM). That’s right. If you’re a Christian and oppose SSM, then hundreds of news articles, thousands of blog posts, and millions of people think you’re a bigot. If your opposition to SSM is in any way connected with your faith, then your chances of being labeled with this term increase exponentially. Of course, you’re still homophobic, but now they think you’re also a bigot. What is it with all the name-calling? Have people given up on offering a reasoned, well-thought argument against our position? In many instances, yes. That’s why they resort to name-calling. Plus, it’s quicker and more convenient. Like them, I’m all about convenience. In fact, I have a quick and convenient suggestion for dealing with these verbal assaults. Next time you’re called a bigot (or any other name), just ask for a definition of the term (at Stand to Reason, we call this the Sticksand-Stones Tactic). It’s just that easy. Now, they’re not likely to offer the
dictionary definition (a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her opinions), but they’ll think of something. What you’ll find is that asking for a definition can accomplish three things: It will give them pause the next time they think about calling you a name. If they have to define every “bad” word they call you (intolerant, narrow-minded, homophobic, judgmental, etc.), then they’re less likely to call you a name and more likely to explain their concern. That makes for a more productive conversation. It will make it more difficult for them to define you, a friendly person who is merely asking for a definition, in a horribly negative way. Instead, they’ll soften the definition and it won’t have the same negative rhetorical impact that the word had. Their definition will likely also apply to them. My guess is that they are also a “person who is obstinately devoted to their opinion” about marriage and you, the alleged “bigot.” If so, then point out how the definition applies to them. After all, both of you in the conversation have an opinion about SSM. So, don’t be bullied by the term bigot. Instead, turn the conversation around and ask for a definition. It will make your conversation more productive and give you a better chance at making an impact for Christ.

I still remember my sadness on hearing that an old friend, someone I believed was a sincere Christian, was leaving his wife. I was shocked and disappointed. How could this man, committed to both his spouse and his Lord, fall in love with another woman? An essay by the late Sheldon Vanauken helps answer the question and reminds us that such temptations are all too common. Vanauken, best known as the author of the powerful love story entitled A Severe Mercy, also published a collection of essays called Under the Mercy, which explores these feelings. In one essay called "The Loves," Vanauken describes how a Christian friend named John shocked him by announcing that he was leaving his wife to marry another woman. John explained his sudden change of heart by saying, "It seemed so good, so right. That's when we knew we had to get the divorces. We belonged together." As Vanauken explains, John was "invoking a higher law: the feeling of goodness and rightness. A feeling so powerful that it swept away . . . whatever guilt [he] would otherwise have felt" for what he was doing to his family. Sadly, many people love their spouse
not as a person, but as someone who evokes certain feelings. Their wedding vow was not so much to the person as to that feeling. So when such people fall in love with someone else, they just transfer that vow to the other person. And why not? says Vanauken, "If vows are nothing but feelings?" Vanauken dubs these thrilling emotions "The Sanction of Eros." When John spoke of the goodness of his new love, "the sacred approval [he said he] felt could not possibly have come from [God,] whose disapproval of divorce is explicit in Scripture. It is Eros, the pagan god of lovers, who confers this sanction upon the worshippers at his altar." Vanauken continues, "The pronouncement of Eros that this love is so good and so right that all betrayals are justified is simply a lie." But worst of all, those caught in its thrall of Eros are convinced their love is different, even sacred. They do not dream, Vanauken says, "that every other lover has the same assurance." Now, can the Eros type of love -- this emotional and physical attachment -- be a healthy part of a marriage? Of course! But Eros is not the type of love that glues husbands and wives together “‘til death do us part.” That love would be Agape love -the love modeled by Christ’s self-sacrifice cont. on pg. 10 - DIVORCE

Moral Revolution:
Chipping Away At Parental Authority
New York State Legalizes Same - Sex Marriage
Becky Yeh - OneNewsNow - www.onenewsnow
By R. Albert Mohler, Jr. The legal, social, moral, and political maps of America were redefined last Friday night as the New York State Senate voted 33-29 to legalize same-sex marriage in the state. The State Assembly had already approved the measure, leaving the Republican-controlled Senate the last battleground on the marriage issue. Shortly after the Senate approved the measure, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law. It will take effect in July, thirty days after the Governor’s signature was affixed. It will be difficult to exaggerate the impact of New York’s move to legalize same-sex marriage. The statistics tell part of the story. New York State becomes the sixth state to recognize same-sex marriage, but its population is greater than that of the other five combined. When same-sex marriage is legal in New York next month, fully one in every nine Americans will live in a state or jurisdiction where same-sex marriage is legal. By any measure, this is a massive development in the nation’s legal and moral life. Add to this the fact that California, the nation’s most populous state, is hanging in the balance as Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment passed by the state’s voters defining marriage as exclusively the union of a man and a woman, is now an issue before the Ninth U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco. It arrived at
the appellate court after a federal judge in California ruled that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. If California is added (again) to the states with legal same-sex marriage, more than a third of the nation’s citizens will live where same-sex marriage is the law of the land. Furthermore, gay rights groups are counting on their New York victory to serve as a momentum-builder for similar efforts across the nation. At present, 29 states have constitutional amendments prohibiting same-sex marriage, while another twelve have laws against it. Marriage is expected to be soon on the ballot in Minnesota and North Carolina, where similar constitutional amendments are in development. On the other hand, samesex marriage advocates intend to focus on the states of Maine and Maryland for renewed efforts toward legalization. One crucial aspect of the New York development is the fact that same-sex marriage was legalized by legislation, and not by order of a court. Eventually, an unusual coalition led by the Governor Andrew Cuomo and major Republican donors pushed the measure through the Senate, even though Republicans had prevented even a vote on such a measure in recent years. As dusk set in in Albany on Friday, the fate of marriage appeared to rest on one Republican senator, whose crucial vote would determine the margin cont. on pg. 10 - MORAL
Pro-family activists in California say the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to permit the sale or rental of violent video games to children puts them at risk and undermines parental authority. On Monday the nation's highest court announced it had sided with a lower court's decision to allow the sale or rental of violent video games to minors in California. The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled previously that a ban on these games, as dictated by California law, would be a violation of the rights of minors under the First and Fourteenth amendments. The high court ruled 7-2 that the ban was unconstitutional. The law would have prevented those under the age of 18 from buying or renting violent video games. Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia stated: "No doubt a state possesses legitimate power to protect children from harm. But that does not include a free-floating power to restrict the ideas to which children may be exposed." In their dissent, Justices Clarence Thomas and Stephen Breyer said the majority read something into the First Amendment that is not there. "...Freedom of speech, as originally understood, does not include a right to speak to minors (or a right of minors to access speech) without going through the minors' parents or guardians." Rebecca Burgoyne, legislative analyst for the California Family Council, agrees with Thomas and Breyer. "The Supreme Court has basically done an endrun against parental authority and said that children have the right to have access to these video games, despite what their parents may think or say," she comments. Burgoyne laments the damaging influence of violent video games on children. "For a movie [or] for a book, a par-
ent can sit down for an hour or two and preview them," she tells OneNewsNow. "But [by playing] these excessive[ly] violent video games -- different ones where they're actually shooting people -- [children are] rehearsing these behaviors over and over again." Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, concurs with Burgoyne, saying the court's decision shows a complete disregard for the safety of children and the authority of parents. "They've forgotten that children are highly influenced by interactive games which train their minds and bodies," he explains. "...These games are very violent, and they are very instructive to say, 'Look, think these thoughts, interact with it, and get pleasure from this violence, this torture, this maiming, this blood, these body parts.' I mean, it's like hell on earth -- and kids are enjoying this." The family advocate considers the ruling a rude awakening for parents, whom he urges to continue to stand for morality despite the court's decision. "The thing that we're telling parents to do is to get out of denial, get out of fantasy land yourself -- and you don't want your children being in a violent fantasy land," he suggests. "Then mom, dad, get out of your fantasy land, and you must find and dispose of any video games that have violent or sexual content." "You can expect a crime increase with more of this [type of video content] being digested," he adds. "I mean, you are what you eat -- garbage in, garbage out." Thomasson contends that the court's decision is inconsistent because even liberal Justice Stephen Breyer upheld the ban against violent video games in the past. Under the law, retailers who did not comply with the ban would have been fined around $1,000 for violating the law.

Agape is the love Paul talks about in Ephesians 5:25, when he commands husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. Agape seeks to bless the other person; it is totally self-giving. At some point, Eros will almost certainly beckon with an exciting new love -- and the feelings of rightness, and even sacredness, may be overwhelming. Couples need to know that only when Christ and Agape love are at the heart of their marriage can they withstand these temptations.

and Massachusetts) and by legislatures in some northeastern states. If current trends continue, the American map of marriage will reveal a deep and consequential division between states which recognize same-sex marriage and those who do not. Given the central importance of marriage to our civilization and culture, it is hard to imagine how such a mixed moral landscape can last. Add to this the fact that President Obama has instructed his own Attorney General not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in courts. In the end, it is difficult to know how one can exaggerate the importance of the New York’s shift on marriage. New York is not merely a highly populous state - it also includes the nation’s most significant city in terms of economics, business, and cultural influence. The legalization of same-sex marriage represents nothing less than a moral revolution, for what the law allows and recognizes, it also approves. Last Friday was a sad day for marriage and, if the advocates of same-sex marriage are right, it was also a sign of things to come. Adapted from R. Albert Mohler Jr.'s weblog at www.albertmohler.com.
for or against the chamber taking the vote. In the end, the measure reached the floor, where it passed by a four-vote margin. One of the lessons learned in this sad spectacle is the fact that enough Republican senators changed their positions on the issue under intense pressure, thus enabling the passage of the legislation. The same was true for the minority of Democratic senators who had previously voted against the measure. One of these, Carl Kruger, changed his vote because the nephew of the woman Kruger lives with was so outraged over the issue that he had cut the couple off from an ongoing relationship. “I don’t need this,” the Senator told a colleague, “It has gotten personal now.” Well, of course it has. But what this statement really means is that many Americans, including many in the political class, simply fold their moral convictions when they conflict with the lifestyles or convictions of a friend or relative. Thus far, whenever the people of a state have had their say, marriage has been defended as the union of a man and a woman. Same-sex marriage has been made legal by courts (such as in Iowa

La Roca Mission Hello Ambassador readers, my name is Leo (aka Leo’s Painting). I attend Glad Tidings Church as well as River Bottom Church with Pastor Ron Brasier. I am going on a mission’s trip at the end of July. I’ve been doing this for three years now. I go to Tijuana, Mexico to the La Roca Church. More than one hundred men stay at their mission nightly. Fifty women and their children stay at the House of Grace. Brother Rudy ministers at La Roca. He
is from Linda. God miraculously transformed his life and used Pastor Mike Hunt to disciple him. Now he is being used by God to help change other’s lives in Tijuana. A few other men and I take a U-Haul truck with food, clothing, water, paint and anything else people want to donate. For that I want to say “thank you”. Our current needs are: canned foods, rice, beans, pasta, clothes, sheets (full size), blankets, soap, toothpaste, brushes, shampoo, lotions, and money for La Roca Ministries! Thank you to all who can give! We also appreciate your prayers for safety and provision. God bless you all!

COMMUNITY Testimonies of God’s Grace Robert
“I was raised by my Dad who was more like a friend than anything. Like every son wanting to be like his father, I quickly tried following in his footsteps. But that soon got me in trouble with the law. I was in and out of juvenile hall and at the age of fourteen I started experimenting with methamphetamine and soon got busted on possession of drugs. My life growing up was done more in juvenile halls, California Youth Authority and prison than out of them. I was paroled again in 2005 and did well. I got married and had two children. I started working and wanting to create a good life for myself, but I really didn’t know how to deal with the stress of trying to live responsibly. I ran back to my old ways, and in January of 2008, I was busted for sales, kidnapping, carjacking, and multiple other charges, and was looking at a sentence of life plus fifty-three years.
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in the county jail and since then he’s done miracle after miracle in my life. The first miracle was that He brought me out of that cell and placed me in the Teen Challenge program. In Teen Challenge the Lord has shown me that with Him everything is possible. The ministry gave me the understanding I needed to see my life transformed. I’m now back home and I have a great job and my family and I belong to a wonderful church. My wife, Sandra, and I are making leaps and bounds in our marriage, as we both have a relationship with God. He’s blessed us with endless answered prayers, including restoration with our families. I’m learning to be a good husband and father to my children, and those are two things I’ve never been.”

CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY
Brad Did It Again! by Dave Kugelman I usually do not devote one entire article to recognize someone’s efforts in coordinating an event but in this case it is warranted. Before I go further, I want to thank Jesus Christ for making this year’s faith night the best effort. God ultimately gets the glory. However, with that said, God does need willing vessels to accomplish His will. So I will start by acknowledging Brad Indelicado for doing an amazing job in coordinating an absolutely incredible Faith Night. Dave Dravecky spoke before the game and presented Jesus Christ and the message of salvation in a very clear comprehensive fashion. We know that God’s Word does not return void, so we are confident that Dave’s message will bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. Bringing Dave and his wife Jan to Yuba City costs several thousand dollars and Brad had to spend numerous hours over several weeks securing financial sponsors for this event. Not to mention, the coordination of printing tickets, posters and distributing them to churches and businesses throughout the community. It takes total passion and commitment to see this project to fruition. I want Brad to know through this article how much I (along with the board of directors for the Christian Business Alliance) appreciate everything that he does
to make Faith Night one of most successful (by setting the high mark for record attendance for each of four years that the CBA has sponsored this event.) Faith night is successful not because of record attendance but because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is boldly proclaimed in a setting where many unbelievers are present. When you see Brad, please take a moment and thank him for his efforts. Also, on behalf of the CBA I would also like to thank North Side Fitness for coming on board as a co-sponsor as well as every single business and individual who put forth time and money which contributed to overall success of the event. “May God Bless you Brad for your faithfulness as a “Champion” who made Faith Night a night to remember! HUMBLE PIE AND JUST DESSERTS
AS WE SEE IT
By Jon Skillman
I have always been drawn to the old “get even” movies. You know, films like Death Wish, Dirty Harry, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon. Man, ole’ Charley, Clint, Mel and Bruce sure can dish out some serious come-up-ins can’t they. And for whatever reason, I love it. I love that scene where Clint looks down that long barrel and says to the quivering miscreant; “The question is … do you feel lucky? … Well do ya punk? Man that is s-o-o cool, but admittedly, not very Christian. I guess I’m just impatient and crave swift justice. I must confess, I derive a certain satisfaction when the bad guys get their just desserts. I know, I know, vengeance is mine saith the Lord, but come on … I’m talking Hollywood here. I’m quite capable of distinguishing between fact and fiction. I mean I’m not going to run out and buy a 44 magnum and blow away the next guy that cuts in front of me in the buffet line. They’re movies for crying out loud and I don’t think they’re going to cause my moral fabric to unravel. However, a recent real life incident and my reaction to it may have caused some fraying.
I’m sure by now you have heard of Anthony Weiner. You know, the congressman who, shall we say, took social networking to whole new lower level. Well, prior to the revelation of his indiscretions and his subsequent resignation, I had seen the congressman speak on TV. I personally found the man to be arrogant, condescending, hateful and vindictive. So, when I learned of Weiner’s apparent come-up-ins, it produced in me the same sense of gratification as watching Dirty Harry dispatch another no-count to his final reward. Ah sweet revenge. It was right at the peak of my smug indignation, that Jesus suggested I might not want to delight so much in Weiner’s fall. And even though my judgment of the man’s character had been confirmed by others, I should put the stones down, (John 8:7) remove the plank in my eye (Mathew 7:5) and read Matthew 7:1-2 … “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Yikes! My judgment of Congressman Weiner fell back on me in the same measure. I was arrogant, condescending, hateful and vindictive, and Christ has given me my rightful come-up-ins. Judgment has been a major stumbling block in my Christian walk. I don’t know how many times I have to be knocked to my knees before I realize it’s easier to fall on them. I also must remember, no one is beyond the Grace of God.
Do you want “Beautiful Feet”? By Seth Halpern
On June 21st, I had the honor of hosting our annual sponsors’ dessert. This is the second year we’ve had it and with the wonderful desserts (provided this year by Stephanie Helm-Beyond Blessed, and last year Kathy Hamilton-The Tea Ladies) I’ve been getting requests to make it more frequent than once a year! It was a great evening starting off with anointed singing by Sandra Dutra. I almost didn’t want to stop the mood, but I did want to share some things with those who support this work. At the core of my message, was the tremendous blessing I get when people share their experience of how they were touched by the Holy Spirit through the vehicle of The Ambassador. I shared several letters and stories of people connecting with Jesus and one another through The Ambassador. My message was simple: I don’t want to be selfish and hold onto this blessing all for myself! Those who help with delivery, those who write articles, and (yes, even) those you financially support this ministry can and should share in this blessing. God has provided a tool for this community through His ambassadors. Notice I didn’t say “through me” because I am but one of His ambassadors. For this truly to be the “Voice of the local Christian community” as our motto says, we need YOU, the individuals who make up the Christian community, to join us! I
Seth Halpern - Editor hope this doesn’t sound like a sales pitch or multi-level marketing spiel. I really do want you to be enriched by participating in sharing the message of hope and reconciliation through the gospel. “How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news”(Is 52:7, Rom 10:15). A pedicure may be nice, but these are truly beautiful feet! One person with “beautiful feet” is my friend Wendell. Wendell (pictured below with my wife and me) is an individual sponsor of The Ambassador and he gives the new issue out at his church each month. He reads it and encourages people to read it because he says it has the truth of Jesus Christ in it. Wendell is a champion of The Ambassador Ministry. I pray you would consider allowing God to bless you through your involvement with The Ambassador!
