GOOD & BAD
By Seth Halpern Editor
Y
ou probably have heard the joke about The lawyer telling his client he has good news and bad news. His client asks “What’s the bad news?”. “They found your blood at the crime scene” “Oh No! What’s the good news?” replies the client. “Your cholesterol went down to 130!” We often hear news that has more than one part to it and it changes our perspective when we hear the whole thing. The Gospel is like the Good News/ Bad News scenario. But it is far from a joke. We often hear the “Good News” proclaimed. Our society is fairly used to the term and so it has much less meaning than it should. The Good News is that God, the Creator of all, sent His Beloved Son, to be born as a human baby, grow up doing only right and never wrong (sin) and then be used as the only perfect sacrifice to pay the debt of our offense to God. That way the Holy and Just God the Father would
NEWS
be able to forgive the sin of each of us human beings. The Good News is that Jesus obeyed Father God and allowed Himself to be sacrificed for us so that we can be reconciled to God and live with Him forever. The Bad News is our sinful state that separates us from God. This is usually much less talked about than the Good News. We want to hear about God’s love for us and His promises for us. We want to feel good about those things. The truth is, however, there is no GOOD news without first a full understanding of the Bad News- our sin. Until we understand how offensive, how horrible, how disgusting our sin is to God, we cannot begin to fully understand the mercy, grace and love that he shows us by His sacrifice. We don’t need to be Bible scholars to understand the theology of this gracious act. Jesus explains it clearly through His parables in the Gospels. It is critical to know, acknowl-
edge and even regularly ponder how wretched our sin is to the Holy God. His Grace has been cheapened and watered down so much by our “All about ME” culture. It amazes me how many people in this nation have heard about “Jesus dying on the cross for their sins” but don’t have any understanding of how that connects to their sin personally. Do you? Because the bad news of our sin is so hideous, it makes the grace of the Good News all the more Amazing! For more Good News, check out the articles inside. On page 5 you can read about how the Good News transformed Ricky, a long-time meth addict. On page 16, you can thank God for His good news by helping a child who has suffered the consequence of others’ sin. There is much, much more to read, ponder and respond to inside this issue. I pray that the Holy Spirit of God will touch and transform you as you read.

THE AMBASSADOR The Ambassador is a free, monthly publication promoting unity and revival among the local Yuba-Sutter area Bible-believing churches. The Ambassador has a circulation of 6,000 and is distributed in local churches and businesses in the community. The purpose of The Ambassador is to pursue the great commission of Christ by making disciples and to encourage, inform, challenge and connect the local body of Christ. We believe in the inspiration and authority of the Bible as the written word of God. We believe that God exists as One, in three distinct persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that the atoning work of Christ (His death) on the cross and His resurrection is the ONLY means of salvation and the only way to Eternal Life in Heaven. INSPIRATION Shoes that fit By Paula McBride
To say I was thrown into my work with disabled children here at the Baja Mission would not be an understatement. My mentor, and head of the learning center, Mary, was leaving that Friday for two weeks in Holland. She had much to do getting ready, and it was her class I was to take over. I knew the kids from my previous visit, and that helped, but there was no plan to follow, no papers prepared, and no written schedule to follow. I think they call this learning by doing. Anyway, I “winged it” the first week. The second week, things fell apart. Mary was gone--the glue that holds the learning center together. Even though we told the kids she would be back, my students felt the change and pushed hard against it. I felt everything I was doing was wrong. At this point, God had an important lesson for me. The lesson came on a rainy day as I shared recess duty with Dora. The children were oblivious to our supervision as they played with Legos, baby dolls, and a play kitchen. We laughed to see the boys dressed up in aprons, and the girls carrying dolls and shopping baskets. Dora and I relaxed, and she began to share her story of first coming to the mission. Her first three months were hard, she said, as she didn’t know where she fit in. She tried out a couple of departments and worked willingly, but found herself coming to the learning center on her own time to clean. She didn’t feel she had the gift of
teaching, but gradually found her calling in doing home visits and counseling. She described that time of her experience like wearing a new pair of shoes. They were tight at first, but with the wearing and stretching, the shoes came to fit perfectly. Dora may not have known I needed to hear her story, but God did. My students were testing the daylights out of me. My two little ones, Martin and Cristian wear diapers. They filled them frequently. Luz Maria pouted and Meylin whined in their unique way of nonverbal communication. Even smiling, accommodating Alex got silly, and Lorena, whom I thought could do no wrong got in trouble at recess for pushing. She cried for an hour when we came back in. I would have been on the floor crying, too, except I had the faithful support of my helper, Joanne. She changed the diapers and supervised the bathrooming—always able to laugh at the absurdity of it all! So my shoes were tight that week, but they’ve loosened a lot since then. I do fit here, and I’m not alone in the challenges of working with special needs kids. Each one of us has tough times. Let’s wiggle our toes in our shoes. Perhaps God is preparing us for another size, and maybe He is waiting for our place in His plan to fit perfectly. Our “shoes” are exactly fitted for the purpose God has for us. We can walk confidently knowing He lovingly planned them to be just right.

My name is Ricky D. Millhollin Sr. and I have lived my entire life here in the Yuba/Sutter area, except for as brief stint in the United States Navy in my younger years. I am 44 years of age; I have a wife of 24 years, Bobette, five wonderful children (three boys and two girls) and two beautiful grandchildren. If not for the loving, forgiving grace of God, I might not be able to enjoy the life I live today. You see, up until seven years ago (this past February 8th marked my seventh year of sobriety) I was caught up in addiction to methamphetamines and my whole family suffered from the horrendous effects it had on my life. I came to the foot of the Cross in the local Salvation Army Depot Family Crisis Center where my family and I ended up after being homeless for nearly eight months in 2006. As I watched my children and wife, that first morning, sitting at the dining room table in the kitchen of the Depot eating hot food with a roof over their heads, I felt this flood of
The Salvation Army emotions. Everything I had done up to that point in my life had been for nothing. All my self-will had done was lead me down a path of destruction and chaos. I found myself on my knees in the little room we had been provided asking Christ to show me the way He wanted me to go and crying out for forgiveness. I felt this overwhelming sense that someone was in the room with me and the shame and guilt began to lift from me almost in a physical sense. After that, I took every opportunity I could to be of service within the local Salvation Army church. Through continued support and guidance from loving church members and the gentle nudging of the Holy Spirit I returned to school, obtained my A.A in Business and my B.A. in Leadership and Ethics. I use this knowledge to better serve those who come to the Salvation Yuba/Sutter programs for assistance. Today I have been working for The Salvation Army for nearly seven years. I am very active in the youth programs, worship team, men’s ministry, and many other wonderful areas that are too numerous to mention. God is at the center of my life and my family has been restored due to His love, patience, and guidance. No one can truly know where God will take them when they turn their will over to Him. Yet, I can tell you from personal experience that the journey is full of wonderful revelations and character building instances that all bring about the glory of God in every life we touch.
If you would like to experience the peace and transformed life that Ricky did and you are willing to commit your life to the only one who can truly set you free from your sin, you can pray to the Lord right now and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Because of what His Son, Jesus, did by dying on the cross, your sins will not be held against you by God anymore. You can experience freedom for the rest of your life on earth and then have a life in Heaven with God for eternity. God’s part of the deal is already done. Your part is to confess your sins, repent (or change your ways) and believe that He is Lord. If your life is out of control, let Him take over control. For help, questions, or more information, contact us at The Ambassador or any of the churches listed on p. 3..

Christian Music Legend Carman Diagnosed With Cancer Christian music artist Carman Licciardello, known by his stage name “Carman,” has been diagnosed with cancer. The musician and evangelist wrote on his Facebook page Thursday morning: “I have delayed writing this but those of you I call friends and supporters, who have prayed for me and this ministry need to know about this new battle that lies ahead. One week ago I was diagnosed with myeloma cancer. It is incurable and I’ve been given a 3- to 4-year window of time.” Often described as part evangelist, part Vegas showman, the 57-yearold’s concerts “are more like a rock-androll Billy Graham crusade than a Christian music event,” his website says. Carman wrote that he will go in for his first bone biopsy and begin the process this week. “I used to go to movies in the afternoon, now I go see doctors,” he said. The singer listed three reasons for his post: “First, I want to put an end to all the rumors. Second, I ask for your prayers. And 3rd, I want you all to know that I will continue to minister and win souls until I can’t do it any longer. “My life has always been about ministry,” he explained. “I have a call of God to touch lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ and that’s what I will do until the Lord calls me home.”
He asked his Facebook followers not to fill his page with cancer treatment remedies, but encouraged them to come see him the next time he’s in their area. “Bring someone who doesn’t know the Lord or who needs to be healed,” he wrote. “I will always pray for the sick and I’m also going to step up the
night comes,” he concluded. Carman, who was born Carmelo Domenic Licciardello, released his first LP, God’s Not Finished With Me, in 1980. Bill Gaither invited him to tour with The Bill Gaither Trio the following year. His song “Sunday’s on the Way,” from the 1983 live album of the same name, began a string of successes on the CCM chart. Carman was named Charisma magazine’s Readers’ Choice for the first “Favorite Male Vocalist of the Year” 1987-1989. Billboard magazine also recognized his influence in Christian music by naming him the first “Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year” in 1980. He has received 15 gold and platinum albums and videos, and has sold more than 10 million records. Carman holds attendances records for the largest solo Christian concerts in history with 80,000 outdoors in Charlotte, N.C., and 50,000 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Carman is currently on tour, and has dates on carmanlive.com through July. His newest album, Anthems of a Champion, released last month.

CHRISTIAN CHILDREN STOLEN TO FILL MUSLIM SUICIDE SQUADS By Charlie Butts OneNewsNow.com
plight of these children, met the bus at the station in Dhaka, rescued the kids and actually nabbed the trafficker who is now in jail,” he explains. Under the deceptive plan, the children are forced to convert to Islam, sign documents to that effect, and change their names to make it hard to trace them. “If they refuse to do anything that the teachers at the Islamic training center want them to do, they report being beaten with live wires, starved, locked in closets,” Bailey says. “So part of it is to convert them, but sources are telling us that they believe that the goal is to brainwash them and then send them off to be part of suicide squads to be used in Jihad.” ICC is working to educate the Christian villagers so they will not be tricked into giving up their children, but they are also learning from other families that have been deceived previously. To date, about 150 children have been rescued and roughly 200 more are missing.
Nineteen trafficked Christian children have been rescued in Bangladesh, and there is an intensive search for more who were basically sold into slavery.
The traffickers tricked the parents into believing the children, ages 5 to 12, would be taken to Dhaka and educated in a Christian school. Corey Bailey of International Christian Concern tells OneNewsNow the intent was actually to sell them to madrassas, or Islamic schools. “Basically what happened is university students in Dhaka found out about the

Christ-Centered Education The Better Choice For Learning
The Power Of Wisdom And Knowledge By Dr. Ron Harden - President-Epic Bible College
Proverbs 19:20 states: “Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” It seems as though this proverb was tailor made for the student, but it’s really applicable to people of all ages. We’re all on journeys of self-learning, which begin when institutional education ends. Education is important because it teaches us about our own thoughts and behavior, and how to live cooperatively with others. It is the basis of culture and civilization. Education is an important part of growing up. Schools, colleges, churches and other institutions provide the basic framework of knowledge—both academic and spiritual. It is here that we explore and learn the fundamentals of our chosen careers and it is beyond the walls of educational institutions where we begin to understand how we each contribute to society. As an academic and spiritual advisor, teacher and counselor, the spring equinox has always meant much more to me than days of increased sunlight and warm temperatures. Equinox is derived
from the Latin words meaning “equal night.” Days and nights are approximately equal everywhere; there is a conscious sense of balance in the world. It is during this time of year that most young people hit their “knowledge” stride with new purpose, important decisions about their future, and boundless energy and enthusiasm for life. We embrace this time of year for its spiritual significance as well—we all learn more deeply about our relationship with God, and his suffering and sacrifice for the sake of mankind. As we take stock of our lives at this time of spring renewal, I wish each of you the renewed strength and knowledge as so purposefully stated in Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” And, on behalf of the faculty, administration and students of EPIC Bible College, we congratulate all students who participated in The Ambassador spiritual essay contest “Why a Christian Education is Important to Me.” Your inspirational words and thoughts will continue to motivate us this Spring and beyond. God bless each of you! Dr. Ronald Harden is President and CEO of Epic Bible College, located at 4330 Auburn Blvd. in Sacramento, www.EPIC. edu, one of the region’s Top 25 colleges and universities and among the Top 10 U.S. faith-based colleges in the U.S. as well as sponsor of The Ambassador spiritual essay contest “Why a Christian Education is Important to Me.”

2013 Ambassador Student Writing Contest “Why a Christian Education is Important to Me” Samuel Juetten - New Life Christian School Winner - Jr. High Level A Christian education is important because living life without God is meaningless. Ecclesiastes 1:2 says “all is meaningless”. If you do not have a solid Christian foundation it is very difficult to live a consistent Christian life. Acquiring a Christian education is like practicing for a sports championship. You need practice if you hope to have a successful game; just as you need practice as a Christian if you hope to have a successful Christian walk. A Christian school is a great place to get practice being a Christian, especially with so many great coaches around in the form of teachers, and other staff. In my school, there are many things that help me have a solid foundation in Christ. I get to have Bible class every day. We have great chapel services every other Wednesday, with worship and the Word of God. I have godly teachers who love and care for me. I am surrounded by terrific Christian friends who help keep me accountable in my Christian walk. I am blessed to have textbooks that are biblically based, teaching me biblical principals through every school subject. All of these produce a solid foundation that is centered on Christ. A Christian education is like the parable of the house on the rock and the house on the sand in Matthew 7:24-27. “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man which built his house on the foundation of rock : and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, but it did not fall for it’s foundation was on solid rock. And everyone who heareth these sayings, and doeth them not, shall be liken him a foolish man who built his house on the foundation of sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the wind blew, and beat upon that house,

and it fell, and the fall of it was great”. A Christian education is like the rock on which the house stood because it gives a solid foundation in Christ and Biblical principles. When struggles in life come, like losing a loved one, financial trouble or relationship struggles, you have a solid faith in God and His promises that helps you withstand the struggles. My mom is losing her eyesight. It has been a hard thing for our family to adjust to since she can’t drive anymore. I have faith that God is taking care of our family and that He is still in control of our lives. With my foundation firmly planted in Christ, due in part to a Christian Education, I don’t have to worry about tomorrow.
Tina Hendricks - Faith Christian School Winner - High School Level My life will reveal the education I have been given. The education I have received is based on my faith. When I grow up, I want to do great things and do them to glorify my God. That is why I attend Faith Christian School. I could go to any local high school, but I don’t. The reason why is because every day I get an hour to learn more about my Savior, an hour to ask questions that I wouldn’t be able to ask at a public school. When I am in Bible class, I don’t have to worry about asking the “right” questions because every question is important. I also value my education because every class is Christ centered. Science becomes more than

“My favorite part of a Christian education isn’t the learning. It is having the freedom to begin every class with a prayer.”
He is. English is where I can learn to apply any genre of literature and see it in God’s perspective. History is where I can learn about all that God has done. If you look at the class title it, is His Story. The story he wants to tell us. My favorite part of a Christian education isn’t the learning. It is having the freedom to begin every class with a prayer. It is a chance to thank God for allowing all of us to be there and asking him to reveal himself through the subject. It is about being able to openly talk to teachers and peers about the love of Christ and it not being weird. It is about receiving the constant encouragement that God does everything for a reason. I love that I do not have to be afraid of what others will think about me because of what I believe. My education is very important to me. This is why I am glad that I attend a Christian school.

Why Should Christians Fight for Justice? By Benjamin Bull CP Guest Contributor Christians sometimes ask me, “Shouldn’t Christians, including Christian lawyers, try to avoid conflict, such as litigation in the courts, and spend their time on prayer and Christian fellowship and evangelism?” In return, I pose some different questions: “What would have happened without Christian litigation in the courts over the last 20 years or so? And if we’re ready to turn back the clock on litigation, which legal victories are we willing to surrender?” These are fair questions. Are we really willing to give back our victory over partial-birth abortion or victories on speech that have prevented Christian evangelism from being labeled
“hate speech” at our universities, for example? I think the answer is an obvious “no.” One shudders to think what our world would look like if the ACLU and their friends won every battle because the Christian lawyers failed to show up.
I am not in any way debating the importance of prayer, Christian fellowship, and evangelism. To the con-

trary, Christian lawyers do what they do to ensure these things can continue without the oppression of government and activist organizations that use the courts in an attempt to quiet the church. Christian lawyers must do this humbly, but they should do it. One might even suggest that a gigantic spiritual battle is occurring in which the opposing force is aiming to silence and suppress the church by a thousand small restrictions. What happens if the church is completely silenced on issues of importance? It seems safe to say that government will be ever less inclined to “promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,” as our Constitution states. It will instead promote conduct that is both contrary to the moral laws of Scripture and destructive in people’s lives; conduct such as same-sex “marriage,” more pornography on the Internet and elsewhere, restrictions on Christian evangelistic expression labeled as “hate speech,” and more regulations intended to influence the church or gag it completely from speaking out on the great moral issues of the day. Our public schools and universities might get away – even more so than they do now – with making Christians seem to be little more than bigoted, narrow minded, and flawed. And since laws have a “teaching function,” what is allowed as legal will increasingly be considered right. We frequently forget that the freedoms we take for granted did not just “happen.” They were won at the cost of thousands of lives, and at the cost of whole generations seeking and paying the ultimate price for freedom from government control and suppression of the church. Our founders recognized that the freedoms we have in the United States don’t come from government, but are derived from our Creator, as gifts to be defended and protected. These freedoms have allowed the church to do a huge amount of good. If we lose them, of course, our ability to do these good things will be increasingly hindered. Thus these
freedoms have immense value to God’s Kingdom. God’s purpose for government is to restrain evil and promote good in society. We should seek to help it fulfill its God-given function. If Christians don’t do this, then who will inform government officials of what God’s intended role for government is?
Benjamin Bull is chief counsel and executive director of global activities for Alliance Defending Freedom, an alliance-building legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.

COMMUNITY WHO HIDES THE SECRET PAIN OF ABORTION? By Anne Reed - Guest Columnist www.afr.net They are your co-workers, your neighbors, your friends and your fellow church members. Outwardly they look like anyone else, but inside they hide a heart-breaking secret. Since 1973 when the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision set the precedent for legalized abortion, an estimated 55 million abortions have been performed in the U.S. Every single day, more Americans lose their lives by abortion than were lost as a result of the destruction of the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001. According to the Guttmacher Institute, Planned Parenthood’s own research arm, 43 percent of women of childbearing age in America have experienced at least one abortion. Where are these women who make up these staggering statistics? Are they in our places of work? Are they standing beside us in the line at the local grocery store? Is it possible they are sitting beside us in the church pew? What is being done to address this underground tunnel of secrecy, shame and heartache? In 2007, Lifeway printed Surrendering the Secret, a post-abortion recovery Bible study authored by Pat Layton, who had been serving women and their families through a crisis pregnancy intervention program and other life-affirming
ministries since 1986. Lifeway took Layton’s personal journey of healing, added a DVD series and a leader’s guide, and made it an accessible tool with unique journaling exercises and meaningful group activities for use in a confidential and compassionate group environment. God had moved on Layton’s heart with a longing to see the church operate more fully as the hope of the world, a hospital for the lost and broken who had experienced abortion in their past. She became keenly aware that the local church was generally unequipped in this area and had not embraced its place in the redemptive healing needed by so many who have received and participated in abortions. Layton became more deeply rooted in the desire to serve and equip the church to recognize post abortion recovery as a mission field. In January 2009, she began training women and men across America to lead the Surrendering the Secret Bible Study in their local churches. She has personally trained over 700 women and men, and has since added a national training team. One church’s story Northern Hills Church in Brighton, Colorado, is one church that embraced the STS ministry after a young lady in the congregation confessed to Susan Sorenson, the women’s ministry leader, about her past abortions. Although Sorenson did not personally know the pain of abortion, she was deeply

touched by this woman’s pain and doubt. So she went to the pastor and leaders of the church and expressed the need to educate and equip the church to meet the needs of post-abortive women and of men who have suffered the loss of fatherhood. Northern Hills leadership agreed, and Sorenson began leading the church’s STS studies in June 2008. The church numbers about 1,000 in attendance each weekend, and about 75 women from the community
have completed the healing process. Through the intentional study of God’s Word, these women have been set free from the condemnation that kept them bound, have come to know the work of Christ more intimately, and have become mobilized for serving God without reservation and without shame. A significant number of them have since received leadership training and taken this ministry of reconciliation into other churches in the surrounding communities. Shari Rigby, a Hollywood ac-
tor and post-abortive mother, has joined the STS ministry team as an ambassador and spokesperson. Rigby is transparent as she shares the story of her healing breakthrough that began with her role in October Baby, a pro-life movie produced by American Family Studios and released in March 2012. When producers asked Rigby to read for the role, they had no insight into her life experiences. But Rigby relates that she was stunned to find the script closely matched her own story, and playing the role started her on the path to recovering from the secret pains of a past abortion. Rigby’s healing continued through the STS study, and her experience led the film producers to see the opportunity for further ministry to post-abortive women and men who were being impacted by the movie. Movie-goers will now be pointed to the Surrendering the Secret website where they can click on “Get Help Now” and be connected with a leader who will personally help them get connected to a group in their area. Rob Kelly, teaching pastor at Northern Hills, indicates that the STS ministry is flourishing. “With God, the thing that is a millstone around your neck for much of your life becomes a lifeline for others,” Kelly said. Anne Reed is a member of the staff at American Family Radio, the national radio ministry of the American Family Association. This article was originally published by AFA Journal.

ACLU, FFRF Misusing Constitution By Bob Kellogg OneNewsNow.com The American Civil Liberties Union and the Freedom From Religion Foundation are suing an Ohio school district over a portrait of Jesus that’s been hanging in a school for more than half a century. The plaintiffs contend that the portrait is an unconstitutional endorsement of religion, but Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel insists that nothing about it is unconstitutional. “The Founders would’ve burnt down the house if [they] thought this was the kind Constitution and nation that they were constructing, would have never envisioned the Constitution being used in this fashion,” Staver submits. He says the Constitution does not indulge the lowest common objector who claims to be offended in such instances. “Just because you have one person objecting doesn’t mean that they have a veto right over anything that they deem to be offensive,” the attorney asserts. “That’s essentially what this particular lawsuit is about -- Simply because one person has a distorted view of reality and wants to object, they want to have their way to remove a portrait that’s been there for 50 years. They’ve hade 50-plus graduating classes. and not one of them has had a problem with this picture until now.” An anonymous Jackson Mid-

dle School student, on whose behalf the complaint was filed, claims to be a Christian but says the portrait portrays the Christian faith in a way that distorts his or her beliefs. FFRF had asked us to do an investigation, which we started almost immediately.”

Are You A Blessing Glutton? by Dave Kugelman
Samaritan Village Orphanage Tanzania, Africa Can You Sponsor Hosea?
Hosea
Newborn
Hosea just joined the Samaritan Village family after being found dumped on December 28th, 2012 soon after delivery. He was found about 7 miles from Samaritan Village and taken to the police station and then admitted to Mt. Meru hospital for a medical checkup. After searching for family members, and finding none, social services transferred him to Samaritan Village Orphanage where he is receiving loving care. Josephat, Director of the Orphanage, named him “Hosea” shortly after receiving him as our newest child. He needs our prayers for his health. A gift of $60. monthly will provide for Hosea’s care at Samaritan Village Orphanage. A monthly sponsorship for a child is $60, but any amount-either one
time, monthly, or even yearly is greatly appreciated.
You may follow us on Facebook @ Samaritan Village Orphanage and through our quarterly Newsletter. The all volunteer Board and friends of Samaritan Village meet monthly and you are invited to attend the meetings to learn more about this life saving work. Please call Tara @ 530-329-6619 for information and meeting information. As always, we solicit and covet your prayer partnership for these little ones whom God has placed in our care.
Since I became a “serious” follower of Jesus dating back to May of 1997, I have witnessed several fads that swept through our Christian culture. Who could forget WWJD; which was an acronym for “What Would Jesus Do?” Also, there was a very popular book that many of you will remember titled “The Purpose Driven Life.” Both WWJD and the aforementioned book helped me to grow as a disciple of Jesus. However I want to specifically bring your attention to a popular prayer and book that many of us embraced back in early 2000. I’m referring to “The Prayer of Jabez” which is straight out of 1 Chronicles 4:10. Author and Speaker Bruce Wilkinson popularized this verse and many Christians (including me) prayed this on a daily basis.
And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.
I am still a fan of the Prayer of Jabez. I have a strong desire to receive ALL of God’s blessings; ALL of God’s promises and ALL of God’s rewards. So the question we need to ask ourselves is this: Have we positioned ourselves to receive God’s blessings? I believe Psalm 15 answers that question.
Psalms 15:1-5 (NIV) Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy hill? 2 He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart 3and has no slander on his tongue, who does his neighbor no wrong and casts no slur on his fellowman, 4who despises a vile man but honors those who fear the Lord, who keeps his oath even when it hurts, 5who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.” “1

ACLU Sues Over Portrait Of Christ By Jon Skillman
It seems I can’t pick up a newspaper with out seeing an article regarding “separation of church and state.” Indeed, the phrase “separation of church and state,” proves the old axiom, “a lie told often enough eventually becomes truth. Nowhere in the constitution is the phrase “separation of church and state” found. The phrase simply morphed from a gross misinterpretation of the first amendment and has flourished from the lack of judicial fortitude. This has embolden the ACLU and other secular groups to ride roughshod over churches, school districts, municipalities and individuals who don’t have the resources to fight against threatened lawsuits. Now I readily admit to having a rather low opinion of the ACLU. But hey! This is an opinion column. This dim opinion of the ACLU stems from their blatant bias against religion in general and Christianity in particular. The latest incident of ACLU bullying is a lawsuit filed against a small school district in the rural town of Jackson, Ohio. The ACLU, along with the Freedom from Religion Foundation, says the portrait of Jesus, which has hung in the school for over 65 years, violates this bogus “separation of church and state” claim. But wait a minute…aren’t schools suppose to teach history? Jesus is the most influential historical figure ever! Isn’t His impact on human history far beyond that of any other? Are not His teachings and standards the rock this nation is built on? Should we not teach love, grace, mercy, peace and forgiveness to our children? We teach them The
Golden Rule, but fail to mention Jesus is the author (Matthew 7:12). How can all of this be deemed unconstitutional? And why is His Portrait unsuitable for a public school? The contention, I guess is they may have a religious connotation. What nonsense! You know, if you follow this separation of church and state to its natural conclusion, wouldn’t folks like Dr. Martin Luther King, a man of God, be banned from the classroom too? Yet his contributions to mankind are taught… and rightfully so. But dare ye not mention the One who inspired Dr. King to act in love and non-violence. Here in California, teachers are mandated to teach of an obscure San Francisco City Councilman solely on the basis of his perverted lifestyle. Yet any mention of the only man to live a perfect and sinless life is strictly taboo. Does no one see the inconsistency here? Here’s the question of our age: Why are the secular zealots so vehemently opposed to Christ? My opinion…His morality exposes them as immoral. So they endeavor to demean Him, mock Him or completely ignore Him. But here’s the good news: The Jackson Ohio School Board voted 4-0 to keep the portrait of Jesus hanging in their school. And with the help of the good folks at the Liberty Institute and the pro-bono services of the law firm of Covington & Burling, the school stands ready to take on ACLU and its powerful allies. No matter the outcome, we know that, ultimately…Jesus wins.

Got Miracles? Have you experienced a miracle? Before you are too quick to answer that question, let’s define what is a “miracle”. The Encarta Dictionary states that a “miracle” is “an act of Godan event that appears to be contrary to the laws of nature and is regarded as an act of God”. Another definition they have is “an amazing event. An event or action that is amazing, extraordinary or unexpected” A third definition they have is “a marvelous example. Something admired as a marvelous creation or example of a particular type of science or skill”. Now maybe I’m too simple, but I think that the second and third still point back to the first- an act of God! Often when we think of miracles, we think of things like the parting of the Red Sea or the feeding of the five thousand. Each one of us IS a miracle and has experienced many miracles whether we think of them as such or not. Every person who has had their sins forgiven and given the gift of eternal life has experienced a miracle. But it doesn’t end there. Have you been brought back to life after having your heart removed during surgery? I have. Miracle. How about finding your watch after leaving them in a theme park ride? Yep, Miracle. One of my favorite songs from Fiddler on the Roof is “Miracle of Miracles” Mótel the tailor sings that the greatest miracle of all is that God has given you (his wife) to me. It may be romantic
Seth Halpern - Editor verse but the fact is that we experience God’s grace and the miraculous everyday without the need to chase it. Every one of us has experienced miracles that would encourage others if they heard it. Whether it’s the life changing transformation of finding Christ or God’s provision of finances, health or relationship reconciliation when all seemed hopeless, the Lord does these things to glorify Himself through sharing that hope with others. I have desired for some time to have an Ambassador issue devoted to the telling of miracles. I’m not talking about the sensational tabloid type of thing, just the kind that shows God at work in our everyday lives. We have been running a regular monthly feature called “God at Work” featuring a local testimony of transformation. In the next issue, I want to run several “miracle” stories on the cover and we plan to mail them out to a thousand homes in our community. If you would like to share your miracle with our community, please send me your story (400 word max) by March 17th. Let’s glorify the Lord and tell our community “How Great Is Our God!”
