We are therefore Christ’s Ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20)
The by Eric Lyons, M.Min.
Have you ever walked the white, sandy beaches of Florida or hiked the hills of Tennessee? Have you stood at the base of a giant California Redwood or sat atop the Rocky Mountains overlooking the Great Plains? “From sea to shining sea,” the United States of America is a beautiful country. As Katharine Bates wrote in the latter part of the 19th century, “God shed his grace” on this country of “spacious skies…amber waves of grain…purple mountain majesties” and “fruited plains.” Few countries can claim so many diverse, splendid sights as America. Physically speaking, America is “the beautiful”! (How anyone can live in this blessed country and maintain “there is no God,” is mindboggling).
Check out The “MarketPlace” business listings on page 15
Spiritually speaking, however, America has lost its moral compass. In reality, it is a filthy, ungodly nation. Instead of printing and disseminating Bibles (as did our Founding Fathers), which inform children that they are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), we print millions of taxpayer-funded textbooks that tell young people they came from slime. Instead of abhorring and detesting the sin of homosexuality (as did our first Commander in Chief [“George…,” 1778] and as does God [Genesis 19; Romans 1:24-32]), our current President embraces the perversion of homosexuality. Instead of hating the shedding of innocent blood (Proverbs

6:17), many millions of Americans elect representatives who support the murder of innocent, unborn children. Oh, but do not think that evolution, homosexuality, and abortion are the only spiritual diseases infecting this country. Rather than acknowledge fornication, adultery, and impurity as sin (Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10), most Americans, including many so-called Christians, embrace these actions as normal, fun, and innocent. Evil entertainment is more prolific and easily accessible than ever in our country’s history. The number one downloaded song on iTunes only a few weeks ago was Brittany Spears’ latest hit titled simply “3.” What is “3”? Only a song about “gettin’ down with 3P” (i.e., three people having sexual relations together at the same time). This former number one song glamorizes sin from beginning to end. Twice in the song Spears specifically mocks that which the Bible says separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2), saying, “Livin’ in sin is the new thing (yeah).” How many people in this “Christian nation” are walking around singing this song? How many “Christians” currently have this song on their iPod? [NOTE: I spoke with a small group of Christian teens recently, one of whom admitted to having already downloaded this song on her cell phone.]
Looking for Summer Activity Ideas? see page 8 How is it that a television series largely about single women’s sexual escapades (Sex and the City) gets nominated for 50 Emmy Awards (winning
seven times) during its six seasons on television? Why are songs, television shows, and movies (e.g., The 40-Year-Old Virgin) that mock purity and celebrate sin so popular? Why is the fruit of the Spirit (faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, etc.) continually ridiculed, while the works of the flesh (sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, etc.) are constantly paraded as acceptable lifestyles of “good people”? Because most Americans, even many “Christian” Americans, have forgotten God and grown accustomed to calling “evil good, and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). Righteousness is ridiculed regularly, while sin is celebrated incessantly.
New BUTTE COUNTY Section! Page 9 America most certainly was founded by men who professed faith in God, read the Scriptures regularly, and made many proclamations and policies that closely mirrored biblical teachings (see Miller, 2008). America was not founded by Muslims, Hindus, or Buddhists. Our Founding Fathers claimed to be Christians, and believed that the God of the Bible was instrumental in the establishment of this nation. At one time in o u r c o u n t r y ’s h i s t o r y, a t h e i s m , homosexuality, adultery, lewdness, etc. were considered repulsive and rarely celebrated publicly. Today, however, America is far from being a “Christian nation.” We live in a physically beautiful, God-given country which, sadly, is filled with ungrateful, ungodly non-believers and hypocritical “Christians.” May God help the faithful children of
God (1) to keep “unspotted from the world” (James 1:27), while (2) reflecting the light of Jesus Christ to a sin-stained country in need of a great spiritual awakening.
“Sponsor Spotlight” on Dr. David Bradley page 13 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20). Where Does The Teaching Come From?
Two Jews
By John Imler – Citrus Heights
By Paula McBride - Yuba City
Recently I addressed a group and, as I looked out into their faces, the thought crossed my mind that some had no basis on which to understand my subject—God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. It was possible that some had not been brought up in church, that others had not attended any church for years, and that perhaps some had never before been exposed to this message. One individual indicated that the normal Sunday in their home was Grandfather reading the Sunday paper with the grandchildren playing at his feet. There was no mention of church or of God having any role in that family’s life—at least it was not important enough to mention. Studies indicate that the percentage of families attending churches today is not on the rise but rather stagnate—in the 40% range. That includes all churches and, of that, only 25% indicate they attend at least 3 out of 4 Sundays. If parents do not establish the importance of God in their own lives and establish the habit of regular church attendance, it is highly unlikely that their children will acquire that outlook on their own. In Deuteronomy 11:18-21 God told the children of Israel the importance of not only fixing His Words in their hearts and minds but also being careful to teach them to their children. God knew that the influence of the parents on their children in the early years was mandatory to bring about a godly and righteous way of life.
All through the Scriptures we are admonished to listen to and adhere to God’s Word and to honor our fathers and mothers (Matt. 15:4; Mark 7:10). In speaking about our early concerns, Jesus said “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you” (Matt. 6:33). The Bible also admonishes us to “Train a child in the way he should go“ (Proverbs 22:6). If we do not teach our children when they are small the importance of God in our lives by our example and allow the church to assist us in instilling God’s Word in their minds and hearts, our chances of doing so once they start our public school system will be a difficult task. To d a y ’s s c h o o l s o f f e r n o opportunity to learn any of the rules for living taught by the Bible or church. In fact, those truths are most often made light of or ridiculed. Required reading materials often give graphic illustrations of the very way of life forbidden by the Bible and abhorred by believers. Home schooling is now possible in many areas and should be seriously considered by believing families in order to teach a Biblical perspective. If this is not possible, reading Bible stories, memorizing Scripture verses, and allowing time for Bible study in the home should be a part of the family’s schedule. As always I invite your comments and questions at john@faithrescued.com.
For Francis Salvador, the ideal of national independence was bred into his soul. Among his ancestors, he could count slaves groaning in Egypt, vassals subject to domineering kings, and exiles weeping for their lost homeland. Salvador was the descendant of prominent Sephardic Jews who, when he was born in 1747, made their home in London, England. Francis thrilled to hear stories of the courage and heroism of the ancient Jews, and his nearer relatives kept the excitement up-to-date. His greatgrandfather was the first Jewish director of the East India Company, and in 1733, his grandfather helped move 42 Jewish colonists to Savannah, Georgia (in spite of the colony's prohibition on Jewish settlers). The year 1773 found Francis Salvador in challenging economic times. His family had lost property in Spain, he had a wife and children in London, and money was short. With hopes of restoring the family fortune, he sailed for South Carolina. Not long after his arrival, he won a seat in the South Carolina General Assembly, and in 1774, he was elected to the Revolutionary Provincial Congress. As you might expect, Salvador spoke forcefully for the cause of American independence. At this time, Loyalists, aided by Cherokee Indians, harassed the South Carolina militia. On July 1, 1775, Salvador earned the nickname "Southern Paul Revere" when he rode 30 miles to warn of a Cherokee attack on backcountry settlements. Just a month later, while on another mission, Francis was shot and
scalped by the Cherokees. He survived long enough to know that his militia won the engagement, but he never learned that the South Carolina delegation to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia took his advice and voted for independence from Britain. Salvador was the first Jew on record killed in the American War for Independence. He was 29 years old when he died for the freedom we enjoy today. In ages past, a young rabbi was mistaken for the leader who would crush the brutality of Rome and restore the nation of Israel to its rightful place as God's covenant people. This rabbi was not born into a prominent family, but as a child, He heard the same stories of faith as Francis Salvador. In fact, those stories were a foreshadowing of His coming to earth to bring a kingdom that offers independence from sin, death, and separation from God, and freedom to live as adopted sons and heirs of a heavenly promise. Rabbi Jesus was harassed by enemies, too, but they had no power to kill Him. Jesus willing gave His life. He was just 33 years old when He died, but that sacrifice opened the way for Him to stand before the throne of God and declare us free from Satan's tyranny. This is a story of two Jews who gave their lives for the cause of freedom. How humble we should be as we reflect on the cost of the liberty and celebrate our national independence. Let's also express our gratefulness by thanking those who are currently serving to keep our nation free and supporting the survivors whose sons and daughters gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Red, White, and Blue
A Hand Up
By Eric B. Bufford - Yuba City
In all her patriotic majesty she stands silently watching over our harbors. She waves gently on the porches of her family’s homes from shore to shore. She flies proudly in our cities, she sails on our ships, and she hangs in the classrooms of our schools. To the moon she has been and on sleeves of soldiers she has marched. The colors of Red, White and Blue are as vibrant and bold as the memories of those who served to guard and protect her. Standing full of honor and glory now she stands watch over all those who lay silently beneath her. Her cry for freedom is loud and can be heard through history. A common thread wove her and a nation together. A pledge of allegiance is to her and for what she stands, a pledge to be indivisible, and a pledge to be one nation under God. She has not always had fifty

stars on her blue shield of honor. The stars at first were few and from generation to generation they grew. Those crimson stripes and the white ones too testify a commitment for freedom that is true. In every battle her stars have led, and her stripes have followed carrying a passion for freedom that is steeped in her past and securing blessings of liberty and freedom in her future she holds dear. So silently she stands vigil day and night, it’s her passion to fight for justice and what’s right. God Bless the United States of America.

Your Body- Your Temple
Mom to Mom
By Dan Duran - Yuba City
by Jo Lynne Keough - Yuba City
1 Corinthians 6:19-20- Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. The foods you are consuming may be making your life a bit more stressful. Instead of encouraging stress, use these tips, to lead a more even and regulated life. 1. Stock up on minerals. When someone is stressed, they’re burning through all of their mineral stores. Any minerals they are consuming are being used quickly because the body needs something to keep moving forward. Dark leafy green vegetables like kale, Swiss chard and bok choy are great choices to include in your meals. 2. Don’t skip meals. Skipping meals could end up making you feel very tense, irritable and weak. You can actually create stress, rather than alleviate it so it is best to eat small portions throughout the day. 3. Include high-quality protein in every meal. Protein is so important for someone who’s stressed out. Eat it, ideally, at three meals a day and at two snacks because protein will really keep the blood sugar levels even, and the last thing a stressed out person needs is to have their blood sugar level all over the place. Try eating almonds, dairy, fish
and poultry as sources of protein. 4. Curb cravings for sugar and refined carbs. Try to consume whole grains like brown rice, or sweet vegetables like sweet potatoes because they have a sweet taste but they don’t shoot your blood sugar out of the water. Also, choose natural sweeteners like agave nectar instead of sugar. 5. Eat combination meals. The ideal combination is putting together some protein and carbohydrates so you have the blood sugar levels but you also have the smoother disposition. 6. Overcome fat phobia. It’s OK to include healthy fats over saturated and trans fats. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are “healthy fats.” An unhealthy fat might be margarine, but instead you can use unrefined coconut oil, olive oil or avocados.” 7. Don’t forget about drinks. Fake beverages like coffee, soda, alcohol and energy drinks give you that boost up the roller coaster, but those are all temporary. People always reach for the Red Bull or Diet Coke with caffeine, when really they could choose water, green tea, even some vegetable juices. Dan (and his wife, Jennifer) are the owners of Duran Health Solutions Inc. and Curves. Dan is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Transitions Lifestyle Coach. He may be reached at Coachdan@yubahealth.com.

Mother Hens Isn’t it easy to forget the glory of being a woman? In all the busy seasons of life, we get caught up in managing details and keeping up with our families. We forget that we are the finishing touch of creation, destined to represent God’s heart in a uniquely feminine way. Last month I wrote about how we are life-giving, not only in birthing but also in the way we nurture and protect lives around us. How our soothing presence is needed in a life-draining world. There is more. We are the relationship experts. We were created with a longing to be connected to and desired by others. Just watch an elementary school playground. The young boys are acting out epic battles or proving themselves on a ball court or field. Meanwhile, the girls are usually practicing relational skills. They aren’t

just playing, they’re connecting. What girls play is not nearly as important as who we play with or who is left out. Even as adults, we connect with other women by replaying the details of our many relationships. Isn’t that what we do when we get together with a girlfriend over lunch just to “catch up?” We discuss our family and friends, sorting out who is doing and feeling what and why. Where does this endless desire for connection come from? God placed it in us to reflect his image. For God has a longing for connection too. As John and Stasi Eldredge point out in their book Captivating, “The whole story of the Bible is a love story between God and his people. He yearns for us. He cares.” Listen to the heart of our Father: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem…how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing” (Matthew 23:37). Speaking of hens reminds me of my mother. She is absolutely the happiest when she has her brood of children and grandchildren near her. It doesn’t matter what the family is doing, as long as everyone is gathered and relating in some way. She is in her glory. My mother seems to be forever planning the next family get-together. I used to be annoyed at her hinting and coaxing more family time from my siblings and me. However, now I see her reflecting who God is. Like my mom, my heavenly Father is a “hen” too, longing for his children to be near him. I guess I’m turning into a mother hen myself. My children are waking up, so I’m going now to tend to my own little brood.

Devotion to Jesus Christ By Dave Kugelman - Marysville Are we completely devoted to Jesus Christ or simply to Christian causes? Don’t continue reading until you take a moment to truly digest that last sentence. Many Christians are committed to strong causes such as the pro-life movement, standing for traditional marriage, speaking out against the dangers of drugs, alcohol, pornography, the plight of the homeless, meeting the needs of widows, orphans etc. And let’s not forget about missionaries or those dedicated to fulfilling the Great Commission. Others are strongly committed to their ministries like Seth with the Ambassador or me with the CBA. Don’t get me wrong, once saved we are called to good works but even good works can supersede our devotion to Christ. Don’t you ever wonder why so many good Christians fall away after many years of service to Jesus? Though reasons vary for losing passion for Jesus, I’m convinced that some fall away Inspirational, the music of The Beene Family is the music of the Church. . - 530-751-9168 FCS Players’ Young People’s Summer Theatre productions of “The Wizard of Oz” July 6-10 at 7:30 p.m. nightly and one matinee on Saturday, July 10th at 2:00 p.m. First United Methodist Church 3101 Colusa Highway in Yuba City Local students ages 8-18 attend the summer drama workshops five days each week from June 8th through July 10th . The Hope Center Have you heard of Hayden Ministries in Oroville? Perhaps you have heard of The Hope Center? The Hope Center is one spoke of a wheel, so to speak, for Hayden Ministries which serves the community of Oroville and surrounding areas. It is located at 1950 Kitrick Ave, Suite A, Oroville, CA 95966. The Hope Center has been serving the community of Butte County for 5 years, serving over 2000 clients per month. The mission is to communicate the gospel of Jesus Christ through loving action. Our mission statement is “Community transformation…one life at a time”. We are both a religious organization and a charitable organization expanding the Kingdom of God here on earth. Our purpose is to partner with faith based organizations, businesses and governmental agencies to oppose physical and spiritual poverty. Thinking globally and acting locally, we hope to make an impact against the symptoms that plagues society, such as addiction, racism, joblessness, lack of food, clothing, shelter and education. Current Programs • The Hope Center is a warehouse that receives donations of clothing, food and other basic necessities and in turn distributes them to the needy free of charge. • Life Skills Academy is an educational program that teaches life skills, such as basic finance, health issues, communications/boundaries, goal setting, and issues concerning domestic violence. We offer this in response to County Government Agencies that are underfunded and understaffed ( Drug Court / Behavioral Health). • Operation Hope is a program to feeds hot meals to the homeless where they are. The key here is meeting them at their point of need. This is in response to Butte County Public Health Agency’s SEARCH team’s request for assistance in the field. This is an awesome opportunity for other Faith Based Organizations to get involved with their teams and minister in home based missions. • Grandma’s Mission of Hope Thrift Shoppe is a store that is funding the sustainment of our community kitchen. This kitchen will be a partnership of all agencies/faith based organizations that want to participate. • Counseling is available for small groups and individuals. Counseling is
conducted by a Registered Addiction Specialist. • Life Recovery Group is a small group that meets on Friday’s that is in partnership with the County Behavioral Health Dept and Butte County Parole office. This group is for the support of returning parolee’s to Butte County . • Self Harm Group is another small group that has been started and facilitated at the Hope Center . This group is to support the growing population of people who inflict Self-Harm (Cutting). • SSA Payee Program is a service that provides budgetary oversight for people who are designated by the Social Services Agency as needing help with their finances. Hope Center Client Services provides case management and fiduciary oversight. • Experience Works Program is a federal back to work program for people ages 55yrs and older who are in job transition. The Hope Center has partnered with the Government to provide job training and positions while the government pays these employees to perform the work. • WEX is a back to work program at the State and County level. These people are in job transition. The Hope Center provides job placement and on the job training while the WEX office pays the employees. • Internship The Hope Center has partnered with the Chico State University ’s Social Work Program to provide internships and on-site Master’s level supervision. Now that you know a little about Hayden Ministries and The Hope Center, you're may be wondering how you can help. We are also looking for monthly giving partnership of any amount for assistance with serving the local community. Volunteers are always in need and can work a couple hours a week on a certain every week or as much as desired. We also encourage Prayer partnership for the many volunteers, staff and growing needs of the community. We encourage anyone wanting to get involved to come for a tour between Tuesday - Friday 10am- 3pm. POLITICS/CULTURE Report: $1 Billion in Tax Dollars Given to Abortion Advocates Jennifer Riley - Christian Post Reporter
More than $1 billion in federal funds have gone to abortion advocacy organizations over the past eight years, according to a newly released report. More than $1 billion in federal funds have gone to abortion advocacy organizations over the past eight years, according to a newly released report. In the first-of-its-kind report, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office details the amount of tax dollars received by six organizations between 2002 and 2009. Rep. Pete Olson (R-Texas), who ordered the study, called the findings “disturbing.” “A majority of Americans oppose taxpayer funding for groups that promote or perform abortions,” Olson said Wednesday at a news conference in Washington, D.C. “Since coming to Congress, I have fought against unnecessary and excessive government spending in all areas. It is disturbing that these organizations spent over a billion dollars over eight years.” He added that tax dollars given to organizations that “offend” most Americans only further shows that such a report is needed. The GAO report reveals that the Planned Parenthood Federation of America received $657.1 million between 2002 and 2008; Population Council of the United States, $284.3 million (2002-

2008); International Planned Parenthood Federation, $93.8 million (2002-2009); the Guttmacher Institute, $12.7 million; Advocates for Youth, $8.7 million (20022009); and Sexual Information and Education Council of the United States, $1.6 million (2002-2009). Pro-life leaders and lawmakers clarified that the federal funds are not used directly to fund elective abortions, which is illegal under the Hyde and Helms amendment. However, the organizations can use the federal funds to support their work in other areas and thus free up private funds to use toward abortion purposes. “By funding Planned Parenthood and their allies, we are unwittingly supporting an abortion organization and everything they do,” said Ken Blackwell, senior fellow for family empowerment at the conservative Family Research Council. “When taxpayer money goes to abortion groups for any reason, it supports the work of the abortion industry.” Presently, FRC is supporting the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act – the only federal grant program that provides people with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services. Title X family planning funds accounted for the largest single source of federal money that went to abortion advocacy groups as recorded by the GAO report. “This report confirms that the largest abortion provide in America is being bankrolled by American taxpayers,” said Rep. Mike Pence(R-Ind.), who introduced H.R. 614 . “We must stop providing taxpayer dollars to abortion providers through Title X…. The time has come to deny any and all federal funding to Planned Parenthood by passing the Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act.” H.R. 614, which was first introduced in January 2009, would prohibit the distribution of Title X family planning money to groups that use abortion as a method of family planning. The bipartisan bill has 93 co-sponsors and has been referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
OZ (continued from pg. 12) One can’t help but wonder if previous students have continued their passion for the arts beyond school and into career and ministry. DeMeritt says they have – with some spectacular results. “We have alumni working in professional, educational and community theatre around the nation, alumni directing top regional theatre programs and alums who’ve worked for Disney, in Las Vegas, in Los Angeles, in Hollywood, in film and television and even on Broadway – including FCS Players alum Marcie Dodd, who has starred on Broadway and toured nationally in the hit musical Wicked and is currently starring in the San Francisco production! “You can see our production here at FCS – then go to SF and see one of our alums in ‘the big league!’” DeMeritt states. But he is quick to point out that a key focus for the FCS Players has always
been a Christian foundation and the view of “the arts as a ministry.” “We stress that ministry in the arts is both a privilege and a responsibility,” DeMeritt stated, “and we have been blessed to have alums go on to service in professional ministry and missions work as well as to success on stage and screen. We believe that wherever we go, whatever we do, we want to ‘let our light shine’ for God.” And so they do – the FCS Players – for almost 18 years, letting their light shine for God – in Yuba-Sutter and beyond! The FCS Players will present The Wizard of Oz in 6 performances – July 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 pm and a special Saturday matinee July 10 at 2:00 pm. All performances will take place at the Yuba City First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Hwy, Yuba City. Tickets are on sale Monday - Friday from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall foyer.

A Family Guide to Movies and Entertainment
By Ted Baehr TOY STORY 3: Very strong moral worldview with very strong Christian allegory at the end, as well as very strong, overt anti-Communist, pro-democracy, animal farm dialogue and action, with selfsacrifice, mutual support, forgiveness, kindness, determination to do the right thing, loyalty, never giving up on others, and clear old fashioned virtues; no foul language but a couple jokes with innuendoes such as Barbi admires Ken’s ascot, some very slight homosexual suggestions that are rebuked by the action, reference to sandbox where “Lincoln Logs” are not “Lincoln Logs,” pea children hide in the rear end of another toy, and Ken offers to show Barbie his clothes at his dream house “where the magic happens”; some light comic and action violence with toys in danger from rough handling by children in day care center, being taken apart and headed for destruction with the rest of the trash; Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head kiss and love each other, Ken and Barbie and Buzz and Jessie show attraction for each other, Barbie dresses as Ken but continues to wear high heels, causing Bookworm to suggest Ken is homosexual, and Ken displays some very slight cross-dressing tendencies in the credits; no nudity; no alcohol; no smoking; and, nothing else objectionable.
In TOY STORY 3, Andy is finally going away to college. He decides to give away all his toys except Woody to Sunnyside Daycare. Woody decides to rescue the toys, which are in danger of being destroyed by the rambunctious young children at the day care center, especially the bratty ones. Slowly, the undisciplined daycare children start destroying the toys piece by piece. At one point, Mr. Potato Head’s parts end up in a tortilla. Working with some of the new friends they’ve found, the toys escape from the day care center but some of them end up in the garbage. Who will rescue them from being destroyed with the rest of the trash? TOY STORY 3 is funny, playful and highly entertaining. You will cheer, cry and laugh until your buttons pop. As usual, the animation is brilliant! And, this time it’s in colorful 3-D. Best of all, the movie presents a powerful, poignant picture of being rescued and redeemed. Pixar and Disney have hit another home run with TOY STORY 3! There are a few very light innuendoes, but parents and their children will definitely want to see it. visit www.movieguide.org for more reviews by Ted Baehr

"What Happened to My Life?"
by Danna Demetre
Maybe you're like me...and a lot of women. You have a plan for your life, then you start living it...then you reach 'that age', and you wonder... "What Happened to My Life?", the question Danna Demetre asks in her new book. Ever feel too busy, too stressed, or too disappointed with where you are in life? Maybe it's time to make some changes. Danna suggests we slow down and make good choices, reinterpret life and have more realistic expectations, choose the very best from all the good, and pursue God in a life-changing way. Her 40-day plan takes you through a lot of Scripture and a lot of ways of thinking that tend to sabotage our joy. But the book is far more than a devotional. The first two parts deal with a self analysis, asking what could be wrong with us. Part Two looks at the lives of several women, seeing the issues they face and learning a new path to contentment. Sometimes taking a look at someone else's life helps us have a new appreciation for our situation. The final part takes us on the fortyday journey to search out our lives and to find the contentment and joy we all desire, but seem to lack. I realize that as believers we're supposed to be joyful always, but we have to be honest and

“IF I ONLY HAD A PART” FCS Players Summer Program Combines VBS with Broadway!
What has almost 100 heads, almost two hundred arms and legs and almost 1,000 fingers and toes??? If you’re thinking it’s a creature you might meet in L Frank Baum’s “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” you’re right! It’s the cast, crew and orchestra of The Wizard of Oz produced by Faith Christian School’s award winning theatre department, the FCS Players as the 2010 offering of the 13th Annual FCS Players Young People’s Summer Theatre Program! Three great casts – over 100 students and staff - meet daily from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm from June 12 – July 10, creating a veritable “magical kingdom” of super music, singing, dancing, acting, lighting, costumes and special effects. The FCS Players Young People’s Summer Theatre Program was founded in 1997 by FCS Players founder, producer and artistic director Paul DeMeritt, his wife Anne (who serves as Company Manager and “Company Mom”) and their son, Matthew. What began with a 30 student production of an original musical based on Tom Sawyer has grown into the
Sacramento region’s most successful young people’s summer theatre program – all Christ centered - with enrollment at the century mark each year and a staff of 20+ producers, directors, counselors and technicians. What might a visitor expect to see at a typical day in the FCS Players Young People’s Summer Theatre Program? Most days might look something like this: 8:45 am – Students begin arriving onsite at the Yuba City First United Methodist Church to find staff members waiting to greet them! Kids are chatting and laughing, and the students get ready for another day. At 9:00 am, The worship team begins a time of praise and worship. Students clap, do the motions to the songs and join in the fun. Following worship is a brief daily devotional and time of prayer, led by one of the Program’s staff. The Program also includes a “Vacation Bible School” format. Each week students memorize a verse from the Bible that teaches a life lesson to be learned from the show and God’s presence in their lives.
Why Do You Read The Ambassasdor?
Each year students also have an opportunity to dedicate or to rededicate their lives to Christ; and in 2009 over 30 students made such a decision. By 9:25 am, students are doing theatre warm ups – facial, physical and vocal – for the fun and rehearsal that lie ahead. Often a “theatre game” or two follows – designed to teach or reinforce a particular skill, to build confidence – or to just have fun! Then, it’s into “blocking” – the actual learning process of the songs, movements and other details that make up the preparation for the production of Wizard of Oz – or rehearsal of a scene, or even a run-though of the entire show led by the directors including Music Director, Jeff Poppinga. Around 10:30 am, students break for “Snack Time.” Break time will often include more games, special events (a recent Friday was “Hawaiian Day,” complete with limbo and hula-hoop contests and a costume prize!) and “company business.” Then it’s back to rehearsal for another hour or so. Then at 12:15, it’s “cool down” time
– students gather and hear encouragement about what they’ve accomplished for the day and what lies ahead for tomorrow – and then it’s out to the parking lot and another day at the FCS Players Young People’s Summer Theatre Program is complete! The program culminates with each of the three casts performing in two performances during the week of July 6 – 10. “It’s amazing to see how fast the kids move from ‘first time jitters’ to confident performer,” Paul DeMeritt shares; “By the time we’re in production, these kids are old hands at the process – and boy, do they shine onstage!” The FCS Players strive to provide the best in professional “production values” for the students as well – professional quality sets, lighting, sound, musical accompaniment and special effects – and Tech Director Christa Ruzich promises “a dancing light and special effects show that will take audience members right to the Enchanted Land of Oz itself!” continued on pg. 13 - OZ

OPINIONS Perception Problems By Jon Skillman - Oroville
“In the Christian life, it’s not how you start that matters, it’s how you finish.” “Being a Christian is a process.” “Spiritual satisfaction is not a good thing… It means you have stopped growing.” These three thoughts from different Christian authors came to me in a rare moment of clarity. They have helped explain some of the misconceptions I have tripped over on my walk. First of all, being born again brought with it a rude awakening… There is only one God… And, I am not He! I also came to realize… It’s not all about me. Wow! This was a bitter blow to my delicate yet ample ego, and it sent me reeling into the bummer tent to pout and ponder. But with regular church attendance, aggressive bible treatment and counseling by mature Christians, I learned that I was never really in control in the first place. Oh sure, there’s that free will thing, but I only utilized it to better my worldly standing, which I now realize, was but a grain of sand on the ocean floor (Ouch again). I have to tell you this being born again can be pretty painful. Anyway, much has changed in my life and all for the better, too. Yet there are things I still struggle with. For example: Even though God’s word explicitly tells

me it is not my job to judge, I still work very hard at it. I think I do this because I perceive myself as being pretty darn good at it. But I’m beginning to understand that my judgment of others is from my perception. I have learned that only God can see into a person’s heart, and He can even see things that person can’t. In effect, human perception is about as accurate as congress’s cost projection on healthcare. My initial perception of prayer, or more precisely, God’s answer to it, was a bit off too. I thought whenever I encountered difficulty all I had to do was pray and presto! Everything was peachy. Well it didn’t always work out that way, and when it didn’t, I got a little tiffed at God. I have since discovered that God answers go w-ay beyond my perception and understanding. Sometimes “No” is the better answer… And sometimes the answer is “Wait” (oh I hate that one). But wait is often followed by “I have something better for you.” This brings the old proverb; “Patience is a virtue,” into play because all things are done in God’s time, not mine. And all things are seen from His perspective, not mine. Lord, may I never be satisfied… Continue Your good work in me, so that I can finish strong in Christ.

Recent studies show at 75% of Americans identify themselves as Christian. That means that 3 of 4 people wear the Christian label. This is actually down from an number 82% not many years earlier. It baffles me that with 3 of 4 Americans claiming to be disciples of Jesus, we have such a problem with perverse and heinous crime, weak and empty churches and a current president and Congress that is strongly pro-choice and pro-gay. I suppose it would be rather surprising if it were not for another number,10%. That is the number of Americans, including Christians, who have a “Biblical worldview”. Ten percent is actually on the high side. Yet it means that only one in ten Americans (Christian or not) view their lives, their circumstances and daily activities through the “lens” of the Bible and the Will of God. Adversely, nine of ten people living in the nation where our currency and national anthem (at least for now) refer to submission and trust in God do not honor or acknowledge Him in the choices they make everyday. To me, this is both heartbreaking and stomach churning. I am both saddened by lack of understanding of the spiritual blessings of knowing God’s Grace, and at the same time disgusted by the
Seth Halpern - Editor rebellion and dishonor that is displayed as the precious, spilled blood of our Savior is tossed about with little regard. I thank God that there are true disciples of Jesus who seek to reach the unreached, the lost, the homeless, the foreign nations. But what of the 65%? Jesus said of the 65% “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, I will spit you out of my mouth!”(Rev 3:15-16). I believe that my calling for The Ambassador is to reach, encourage and challenge those in that category. Of course, I pray that The Ambassador is a blessing for all in His Kingdom, I seek especially God’s anointing on these pages to speak to the hearts of those who have strayed, turned away or rebelled. Pray for the 65%. More than that examine yourself to be certain that you are in the 10%. “You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose the easy way. But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it.” (Matt 7:13-14)

Last Stanza of the
Star Spangled Banner O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved home and the war's desolation! Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust." And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
