DANGER OUS
By Seth Halpern
The bold declaration above is one in which there has been much debate. Many might say that this “honor” goes to the Koran because of the Islamic terrorism and the motivation that the Koran gives to inspire radical Muslim terrorists. Other’s might guess that Darwin’s “Origin of the Species” is the most dangerous volume written due to its propagation of atheism and its influence on Marxism and Nazism along with the murder of millions through “applying” its philosophy. However dangerous the principles of these two books are, neither is the “most dangerous book ever written” That honor belongs solely to the Holy Bible. Now, PLEASE don’t misunderstand me or stop reading at this point or you will misread me and take this out of context. I recently visited the “Dead Sea Scrolls and History of the Bible in America Exhibit” in Roseville and came back with a new perspective on the danger of the living Word of God. (For more info on the exhibit, see page 13). The Jewish scribes, worked diligently (to say the least) to transcribe the Bible on a scroll with meticulous accuracy. One slight mistake would result in the scroll being burned and starting the process over. In the 14th century. John Wycliff’s bones were dug up and burned. In the 16th century William Tyndale, was martyred. Both translated the Bible into the language of the common people. Both were declared heretics by the institutional church. Christianity where Bibles abound at thrift stores and garage sales. These men and others bled and died for their devotion to the Bible. They understood that it is God’s Word and must be both protected and proliferated. Before
Book Ever Written!
you think that this is simply a history lesson, many of our brothers and sisters in Christ today are suffering persecution, torture and even death for having even portions of the scripture in their possession. The Bible is banned in many countries in our sin-ridden world. The choice of version, and specialty notes is not available in most nations as it is in ours. You might be thinking to yourself at this point: “Well, then how is it dangerous for me?” A good question. Thank your for asking! The Bible states in 2 Peter 3:16 that “those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his (Paul’s) letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.” . Do not miss that- destruction will result with the twisting of scripture. That’s dangerous!
We need to be serious about our honor and study of the Bible
message is not believed. After all, if its message of salvation is not obeyed, then this will lead to a person’s destruction. The Bible warns that those who don’t trust in Christ for salvation will be separated from God for eternity in Hell.” Finally, the Bible is the world’s most dangerous book because it will (through the Holy Spirit) transform your life into something you would not be otherwise. This is a good thing. You will become “Unexplainable” according to author Don Cousins, in that you will live a life that the “world” will not understand. We are to be a “different, holy” people set apart for God. The results, evident by the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5) will certainly set us apart. There is truly no getting around the fact that the Bible is the most dangerous book ever written. Whether we look at the cost of bringing it to us in the 21st century or the personal cost of obedience (or much worse-disobedience), we must respect, honor and revere God’s Living Word!

Listen to We need to be serious about our honor and study of the Bible. I currently attend a local church where we stand during some of the public reading of the Bible. I am not promoting a religious ritual, but it does help my perspective in honoring God’s Holy Word. Creation expert Ken Ham makes another point about the “danger” of the Bible “Because the Bible explains the only way to be saved (‘If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.’—Romans 10:9), it is the most dangerous book—if its

INSPIRATION Christianitis
Showers and Flowers
By Andy Lemos – Yuba City
By Paula McBride - Yuba City
So I’m sure you’ve heard of the term “Christianese”. According to the Web site wiktionary.org, it’s a term “for the catchphrases and theological jargon used by some Christians, commonly from Christian theology and influenced by popular translations”. It’s Christian slang, in other words. But, have you ever heard of the word “Christianitis”? My guess is probably not, because many of us have not been infected with it…yet. No, it’s not something out of a Michael Crichton or Stephen King novel. It sounds disgusting and may make your 4th grader want to make fake gagging noises, but according to the Bible, it’s what every Christian should want. It’s not H1N1, and unlike the Swine Flu, this you will actually want to spread. You’ve heard of the “Contagious Christian” and those who are “on fire” for

the Lord, and “Christianitis” is very similar. The beauty of Christianitis is that you do not have to be a member of Newsboys or Third Day (although that would be cool), and your To-Do List does not have to include playing music to thousands in packed stadiums (also cool), to catch it. This is the Everyday Joe kind of infection that we can all relate to. “Itis” after anything usually signals “ewww!” or “not good” and includes a doctor’s note. The term “itis” usually refers to an infection of something, as in Bronchitis (infection of the bronchial tubes) or Tendonitis (infection of a tendon). But what if we attached that suffix to the end of a word like “Christian”? Yeah. Seriously. That would literally translate to an “infectious Christian” or an “infection of the Christian”, wouldn’t it? I think we’re all aware at this point that it takes very little effort for us Christians, and our language, Christianese, to get attention these days. After all, the mere mention of the words “under God” in the Flag Salute has been the subject of debate. What if we all came down with a serious case of Christianitis and “infected” other people with God’s truth? Philemon 1:6 says, “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” What if we all shared our faith, and our Christianitis, with others? Is your faith infectious? Are you, or have you been, infected with Christianitis?

What do a singer and a farmer have in common? For Thomas Tusser, who spent much of his early life singing in great cathedrals, it was his amazing sense of rhyme and his love of the seasons and the soil. He wrote a sonnet that captures the essence of each month of the year, and in it are the lines we have come to know as "April showers bring May flowers." All that may be well and good, but frankly, I'm not a big fan of rain. It's so…wet! I get wet and feel wet all day. It's terrible for hair, and dark clouds are depressing. Oh, I know I should be grateful. California still needs all the water it can get, but that doesn't mean I have to like the downpours. I need an attitude adjustment from the psalmist, David. He saw the watering of the earth as a visit from God. Psalm 65:9 and 10b say, "You visit the earth and water it. You greatly enrich it. You make it soft with showers. You bless its growth." God the Father wants to bless His children with growth, too. We find ourselves living in gray, rainy days of trial without realizing Jesus is visiting us with His watering can. He tenderly softens the desert of our hearts and plants the seeds of His likeness. He delights to do His good work in us. When we realize Jesus is visiting us during the storms, we learn to be thankful. Scripture instructs us clearly, "In everything give thanks" (I
Thessalonians 5:18). When the Apostle Paul wrote those words, he was surrounded by evil and had been persecuted terribly. He didn't say, "Be thankful for everything." He didn't, and we don't give thanks for evil. Many times, the things happening to us are refreshment from God's watering can. The Bible teaches that everything comes from God's hand and everything is for our ultimate good. Psalm 84:11 says, "No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly." Romans 8:29 explains that everything can work to conform us to the image of Christ. Everything teaches us God's ways. The tough times in life force us to recognize what is truly important. When we delight to obey the Lord and respond correctly during the gloom, He promises a riotous garden of peace and joy beyond measure. We know that April showers bring May flowers. It happens every year. The seasons of the heart don't match our calendar, but we can live in the grayness of today by reflecting back on the flowers of past seasons and rejoicing in the hope of springtime yet to come. For now, let's say with Solomon's beloved, "For lo, the winter is past, the rain is gone, the flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land" (Song of Solomon 2:11, 12). Happy Spring!

Being First By John Imler - Citrus Heights
Being first has become very important in today’s world. We have all experienced the desire to be number one. We want to be first in any line, any race, or any class standing. It has often been said that the whole world likes a winner. Our generation has become known as the “me first” generation. Since I believe the Bible is the best place to find out about life, I turned there to find out how important it is to be first. I was not surprised to find that it is not important at all. In fact, being last seems to be of the most importance in God’s sight (Matt. 20:27-28; 22:37-38). Jesus says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God” (Matt. 6:33). The correct formula seems to be: God first, others second and self last (Mark 9:35; 10:35). Paul indicates the correctness of this formula when he commended the church of Macedonia (2 Cor. 8:5). John also refers to the desire to

be first as being unacceptable in God’s eyes (3 John 9). God wants to be first in the lives of those who believe in Him. He wants to be first in our mind, our bodies, our souls, and our spirits. He wants to be first in our loyalties, our schedules, our business, and our individual flow charts. God also wants to be first in our country and government. Current signs, however, indicate that we are trying to move Him to the last to be considered or consulted. The news seems to glory in each advance of those who oppose God’s being first. To remind us of God’s desire to be first, He has placed great emphasis on it throughout the Bible. He asked the Children of Israel to bring Him offerings of the “first fruits” of their labor (Ex 2:2 &12; 23:16-19). Where does being first rank in your priorities? It ought to be weighed on eternal scales to see how important it really is. “For what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36) “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes” (James 4:14). Let our desire be like that of John the Baptist: “He must become greater, I must become less” (John 3:30). Read about John’s story at www.faithrescured.com.

Your Body- Your Temple
Mom to Mom
By Dan Duran - Yuba City
by Jo Lynne Keough - Yuba City
1 Corinthians 6:19-20- “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” The old adage “we are what we eat” is correct in many ways, since nutrition dictates 90% of your success when it comes to weight loss or gaining muscle. The basics of nutrition can be first divided into three macronutrients. These are the substances all bodies need to live a sustainable, healthy lifestyle. Macronutrients include carbohydrates, protein and fats. Carbohydrate sources include fruits, vegetables, grains, milk, and foods with added sugars. The recommended intake is between 45 and 65 percent of your total daily calories. Many people make the mistake of cutting carbohydrates to very low levels in hopes of losing weight, and this not a healthy way to accomplish this goal. Fiber is a crucial nutrient necessary for digestive health in humans. Dietary fiber is the part of plant food that cannot be digested. It absorbs water and continues through the digestive tract, aiding in bowel movements. Fiber also reduces appetite by providing bulk to one’s diet without any added calories. In addition, fiber helps regulate blood sugar levels and lowers cholesterol levels, Protein Sources include meat, yogurt, cheese, milk, soy, beans, lentils,
legumes, and nuts. The recommended intake for protein depends on the age and gender; the Recommended Dietary Allowance advises consuming .8 grams of protein for every kilogram of bodyweight. Individuals attempting to lose body fat or gain muscle mass may consume up to twice this amount. Between 15 and 45 percent of daily calories should come from protein, Dietary fat sources include dairy (butter, cream, cheeses), oils, meats, fish, nuts, and avocados. The recommended intake is between 15 and 35 percent of your total daily calories. Saturated fats increase the level of cholesterol in the blood, which can increase the risk of heart disease. Saturated fats are found in animal products like meat, butter and cheese, in addition to some oils. Unsaturated fats include: Monounsaturated fats which raise high density lipoprotein—the “good” cholesterol, monounsaturated fats which are in foods like nuts, avocados and olives and help to reduce blood cholesterol, and polyunsaturated fats which are found in some oils and fatty fish. This classification of fats also help reduce blood cholesterol. Always attempt to make healthy food choices and care for God’s temple, your temple… your body. Dan (and his wife, Jennifer) are the owners of Duran Health Solutions Inc. and Curves. Dan is a Certified Personal Trainer and may be reached at Coachdan@yubahealth.com.

Finishing Touch Putting the finishing touch on a project is satisfying. I believe this is the entire purpose of throw pillows. I could just straighten the covers in my bedroom and walk away. But somehow my bed doesn’t look right without those two soft cushions in place. Taking one last look at the room before I leave, I think, “Now it looks complete.” Picture another nearly completed place with me, the Garden of Eden. It is day six and God is surveying his work. Lush plants surround a crystal clear river. Animals of all kinds and colors are grazing, swimming or chirping nearby. Man is fresh and strong, exploring his new home. Everything is perfect…almost. God sees a hole in creation. The master Creator says, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18). Then in a final flourish of creation, God makes woman. Have you ever thought that you, as a

woman, are the finishing touch of creation? I was introduced to this idea by John and Stasi Eldredge in their book, Captivating. “Given the way creation unfolds, how it builds to ever higher and higher works of art, can there be any doubt that Eve is the crown of creation? Not an afterthought. Not a nice addition like an ornament on a tree.…She fills a place in the world nothing and no one else can fill.” I love the thought that you and I are not just a decorative touch, like a throw pillow or a sprig of parsley. We are an irreplaceable part of creation. We are not merely helpers for our Adams, we complete them. Before woman, something was “not good.” After woman arrived God looked around and said, “Now everything is very good.” Eve was judged to be very good, but not because of what she did around the garden or how well her children were behaved. As far as we know, she didn’t do anything that first day but delight Adam with her presence. She carried the image of God in a unique way and that was enough. Do you know, dear one, that you are enough to delight God? The pleasure you bring God is not based on what you do but who you are: the irreplaceable, finishing touch of creation. Happy Mother’s Day!

Loving People into Hell! By Dave Kugelman - Marysville Hopefully the above headline caught your attention. Read on and you will catch on. As followers of Jesus, we are to meet the needs of those less fortunate than us. Amen? We are to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, be hospitable to strangers, care for the sick and visit those who are in prison. This by no means is an exclusive list. The point is that we should use our resources to help those in need. However, should their personal physical need be our primary concern? Hold that thought. There are a growing number of Christians that believe helping others is their Christian duty but will avoid sharing the Gospel so they don’t risk offending anyone. Or they don’t really understand the Christian faith that they claim to follow. Meeting needs without the message of salvation is not the good news. It is only a “social Gospel.” One of my closest friends relayed the following story: He and members of his church were discussing strategies to provide food for the homeless. He stated that the food program was necessary, but that the Gospel should be given along with the food. BUSINESS ALLIANCE other members was, “I would never do that.” He honestly believed that it was wrong to package the message of Jesus with a sandwich. That is what I call “loving people into hell.” You help to make their life better on earth, but fail to present the message of eternal life. We have to remember that Jesus himself started his ministry with "Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near." Matthew 4:17 (NLT) If He started His ministry with these words, maybe, just maybe they are important. As Christ followers, we are to meet urgent needs but we are also called to fulfill the “Great Commission.” (Mt. 28:18-20) Let’s do it all. Also, please consider attending the Christian Business Alliance lunch meetings which are held every Tuesday at noon at various locations. Franklin Graham Dropped from Pentagon Prayer Event Jennifer Riley - Christian Post Reporter
The Army rescinded its invitation to Franklin Graham to speak at the Pentagon for the National Day of Prayer over concerns about his remarks about Islam. The Army rescinded its invitation to Franklin Graham to speak at the Pentagon for the National Day of Prayer over concerns about his remarks about Islam. Army spokesman Col. Tom Collins said Thursday that Graham’s comments about Islam were “not appropriate.” "We're an all-inclusive military," Collins said, according to The Associated Press. "We honor all faiths. ... Our message to our service and civilian work force is about the need for diversity and appreciation of all faiths.” Graham is under fire for past comments he made about Islam. He called Islam a “very evil and wicked religion” after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and more recently made disparaging remarks about the Muslim faith in an interview with CNN’s Campbell Brown in December 2009. “True Islam cannot be practiced in this country,” Graham said to Brown. “You can’t beat your wife. You cannot murder your children if you think they’ve committed adultery or something like that, which they do practice in these other countries.” The Military Religious Freedom Foundation, on behalf of Muslim military personnel and defense department staff, demanded in a letter to Defense Secretary
Robert Gates that Graham be disinvited as a speaker at the prayer event. The group took issue with his comments on Islam and his ties to conservative Christian group the National Day of Prayer Task Force. Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, is the co-honorary chair of the task force. Earlier this week, Collins noted that the military was not responsible for inviting Graham to speak at the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer event. The National Day of Prayer Task Force and the Pentagon chaplain’s office had invited him. Graham, though still standing by his earlier remarks, has tried to clarify and soften his tone by saying he has Muslim friends and loves the people of Islam. The humanitarian group he heads, Samaritan’s Purse, works in some predominantly Muslim countries. “It’s (Muslim world) a part of the world I love very much,” Graham said, according to CNN. “And I understand it. But I certainly disagree with their teaching.” Graham has met several times with Sudan’s notorious Muslim president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, the leader who is widely held to be responsible for the Darfur genocide. Despite believing that Islam is an “evil and wicked” religion, Graham said he meets with Bashir in hopes of leading him to Christ. In response to withdrawal of the

I love books that kick my spiritual backside all over God's creation and back. I know my own tendency toward spiritual complacency, and with time so short, I don't want to waste a moment. Left to my own devices, I'll squander hours and days on nothing profitable. That's why God loves me enough to bring me books like Timothy Keller's newest release, "Counterfeit God's". Reading this one was an in depth spiritual checkup, and I found I've been infected with the sin of idolatry. Most likely, so have you. We as Christians tend to put our trust and hope in just about anything except God. We fake ourselves into thinking we have total dependence upon Him, but when push comes to shove, the idols pop out. It gets pretty ugly...and crowded...in our hearts. Take for instance our economic downturn. How many Christians have you heard lamenting the economy, their job situation, or loss of income as if the world were coming to an end for them? That's a sign of faith and trust in money rather than in God. Turns out, we can learn a lot from Zacchaeus. Or how about our latest political situation? Did you want to throw your hands up in despair at the election results, and feel as if you had no leadership or representation in your government? Did you feel hopeless at all? That points to dependence upon government rather than God. Nebuchadnezzar has a lot to share about that. Are you so concerned with your appearance that all of your worth is conditioned on how much weight you've lost or gained, how your hair looks determines if you go out, or you can't look at someone without comparing how you look to how they look? Then you're serving the empty promise god of love/sex/appearance rather that the Creator of the Universe. You won't believe what you can learn from Leah and Rachel! Might sound harsh, but idolatry is insidious and so deceptive. I saw myself

in nearly every chapter, and found myself having to repent and ask God to remove my false gods so I could see Him more clearly. Timothy Keller takes stories from Scripture that we're so familiar with and opens them up, drawing out deep insight and wisdom that not only reveals hidden idols, but brings fresh life in to reading your Bible. I'll never look at Jonah the same way! The cool thing about Timothy Keller's book is not the revelation of the false gods in our lives, but how to rid ourselves of them. Of course, that comes in the final chapters, but powerful chapters! Just my humble opinion, but every believer needs to read "Counterfeit Gods". It's just too easy to fool ourselves into thinking we only worship God, when He's usually far, far from our hearts and minds. A spiritual checkup never hurt anyone...and just might break out revival again. I'm giving "Counterfeit God's" five out of five bookmarks, with a magnifying glass as a charm. Don't miss this new release, published by Dutton, a division of Penguin Publishers. Happy Reading! Deena Peterson An Independent Reviewer Totally Dependent Upon Jesus!

COMMUNITY Bayside Church Brings Extraordinary Dead Sea Scrolls To Northern California
Rare Exhibit Puts Oldest Biblical Manuscripts from Azusa Pacific University on Display for a Limited Time Bayside Church will be home to one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the 20th century as it hosts an exhibition featuring five fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls and a collection of rare biblical artifacts from April 9 – May 15, 2010. The one-of-a-kind exhibit, called “From the Dead Sea Scrolls to the Bible in America” offers the public a rare opportunity to take in the full historic sweep of the Bible’s presence in the West in a single exhibition and includes five Dead Sea Scroll fragments, three of which were acquired by Azusa Pacific University this past summer. Also on display are dozens of biblical items, including a 5,000-year-old cuneiform tablet, a Gutenberg Bible leaf, original King James Bibles from 1611–40, and a 17th-century Hebrew Sefer Torah sctroll. In addition to the Biblical pieces, there will be several archaeological artifacts throughout the exhibit that highlight life in the region during the times the scrolls were written. The textual treasures will be displayed in a cave-like setting, with sights and sounds depicting the caves of northwest rim of the Dead Sea near Qumran where the discoveries were made. “This is a very unique opportunity to experience these incredible artifacts, and learn how God delivered His Word throughout history,” said Ray Johnston, senior pastor at Bayside Church. “Whether people come to have their faith

strengthened or for pure historical value, this is ‘must-see’ for everyone. I have viewed the fragments, and can personally testify what a powerful experience it was. We can know that the Bible of today is real and trustworthy.” For specific dates and times, please visit www.deadseascrollsexhibit.com. Tickets are available now online, and cost $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children five years old and younger are free. About Azusa Pacific University’s Dead Sea Scroll Fragments and Biblical Antiquities Azusa Pacific University (APU) acquired the five fragments and a number of rare biblical antiquities in August 2009. Currently, APU is one of only three higher education institutions in the United States that own Dead Sea Scroll fragments. The University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute Museum has one, and recently Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas acquired three scriptural fragments. These earliest known texts of the Hebrew Bible, dating back to roughly 150 BC, were discovered in the caves of Qumran, east of Jerusalem, between 1947– 1956. Today, many of the estimated 15,000 known fragments are held in private collections. For more information on the acquisition, visit http://www.apu.edu/media/news/release/ 14307/ . First Lutheran Church of YC Welcomes New Pastor On Sunday May 2nd, First Lutheran Church of Yuba City held an installation ceremony for as new Assistant Pastor. He will team up with Pastor Michael Franckowiak to provide additional services, expand the youth program, and provide additional outreach to the community. Reverend Silva was born in Matagalpa, Nicaragua. Shortly after high school, Pastor Silva became an interpreter for the Lutheran Church in Nicaragua and worked with Lutheran Mission Teams from Canada and the United States. That is when he joined the Lutheran Church and soon felt called into full time ministry. He earned his credentials as an ordained Pastor from the Lutheran Reformation Seminary in Chinandega, Nicaragua. Shortly after graduation, he served as a Missionary Pastor for Cristo Para Todas las Naciones (Christ for All Nations), the Latin American equivalent for Lutheran Hour Ministries. Besides preaching, Pastor Silva spent much of his time responding to the needs of church members and people in the surrounding community. He was involved with children and youth ministries, street ministry and even a dance ministry. He often visited those in need at home and in the hospital and taught English classes and Bible Study. While serving as a missionary pastor, Pastor Silva met his wife, Kristy, who was serving as a Missionary in Panama with LCMS (Lutheran Church - Missouri Senate) World Missions. She built
Pastor Yader Silva & Family relationships with both children and adults by teaching English classes at several Lutheran churches and worked alongside the youth missionary and the volunteer coordinator missionary. Since then she has been serving as the Director of Christian Outreach at Bethel Grace Lutheran Ministries. They were blessed with a baby boy in 2009, named Ammiel.

OPINIONS Invest In True Value
AS WE SEE IT
By Jon Skillman - Oroville
If you take the first phrases of Matthew 5:19,20 and 21 it reads like this: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I read an article in which the writer wrote about reaching an age that brought his mortality to the forefront… And, the ensuing midlife crisis that has followed. He told of living a good life, achieving a measure of worldly success and having a good marriage with good kids. He has good friends, a good job and has been good to others. By all accounts, everything was pretty darn good… With one possible exception… He couldn’t answer the question, “Am I happy?” Even though he had done and acquired many of the worldly things that are suppose to produce happiness, he couldn’t say he had actually achieved it. There was something wrong. This is the point at which many of us, of the male persuasion, begin making really ill advised decisions… I mean more ill advised than usual. The writer of the article also made some rather astute observations about the values, or lack of values this society dictates. He also expressed concerns about the overall direction our society is headed. His proposed solution was to

drop out, move his family to a farm and live off the fat of the land and the fruits of his labor… Admittedly, a better choice than some, but, not necessarily a move I would endorse. I read the article again, and when I came to the part where he felt something was wrong I stopped. Was it really that something was wrong, or was something missing? There was no mention in the article of faith or spirituality. I don’t think his life has ever crossed the line between the world and spirit… Between the mortal and the eternal, or even man and God. The reality of mortality had caused him to ponder and search for answers. But I don’t think he’s asking the right questions or searching in the right place. The reason I found this article so intriguing is, it could have been written by me. I was exactly where this man is. I had all the worldly trappings for happiness, yet I couldn’t say I was happy. But in truth, the question that really plagued me wasn’t, was I happy, but… Is this all there is? It took me a while to figure out the answer is no. There is a lot more, and it’s found on the other side of the line. It is all found in God. And now my investments are in Christ and eternity. So for me it is no longer, “For where my treasure is, there my heart will be also… It is: For where my heart is, there my treasure is also.

The (Unconstitutional) National Day of Prayer By Seth Halpern On April 15, U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Crabb decided on a case brought before her court questioning the constitutionality of the National Day of Prayer. As outrageous as that sounds, even more outrageous (and disheartening) was this judge’s ruling it is NOT constitutional. Ok, let’s step back a little bit. This year millions of people will be participating in the 59th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer. Fifty-nine years! In those years every president has issued a proclamation of the Day and most have participated in festivities honoring it. That’s just the last 59 years. I don’t have space to detail the government’s involvement in prayer since it’s foundation. We have covered that in other articles published in this newspaper. Now as infuriating as this decision is to most of us with good sense, the reality is that it has little practical impact on us and our faith in God. It is really a formality stating that the “so-called” separation of church and state does not allow for the White House to endorse a day of prayer since not everyone believes in prayer (That minority of atheists again. Why do we keep catering to them?). More importantly, many in Congress and other leaders have already filed lawsuits, calls for appeal, and other knee-jerk reactions to this ridiculous decision. The Dept of Justice is already
Seth Halpern - Editor trying to put out the fire that this lone judge (or Lone Ranger judge) has caused. Whether or not the current administration believes in prayer or the God to whom we pray, the president does seem to understand that this would cause his ratings to go down even lower. I need to stop myself here. This is as political as I want to get in this column. The bigger point here is that when the church is persecuted, the truth comes out and it spreads. We do not know persecution like other generations or other nations. (see the cover story for more on this) We are not going to make our country into a Christian Paradise. Things will be getting worse and although I believe we should fight against threats of the godless, it is more important to use the persecution to get closer to our Lord. We should be expecting this and possibly embracing it. We have the book and we know how it ends! It does NOT end with us coming together hugging and singing Kum-Ba-Yah with the world. Again, I am NOT saying that the church should simply lie down and watch. We have our children and their children to contend for. However, we should expect to be persecuted (much more than this) and grow in our faith as a result of it.
