POLITICAL CORRECTNESS by Seth Halpern Editor
The recent firing of Juan Williams by NPR (National Public Radio) for comments on the O’Reilly Factor caused a firestorm of controversy regarding political correctness run amok. Williams shared how he felt “nervous” when seeing people boarding his plane dressed in Muslim garb. Although, many Americans would feel similar, including me, he was immediately fired for his comments. One commentator wrote that Williams showed the same “bigotry” as if someone were walking in a dark alley with a young black man following behind wearing “thug” clothing and thought they were going to be mugged. Wait a minute; is that bigotry or fear of a real potential threat? It may seem to be stereotype but how did it become a stereotype. Certainly it doesn’t mean that every Muslim passenger is going to blow up the plane any more than it means that every young black man is going to mug us; but it can stir up natural fears due to prior experience (whether ours or not). Expressing such a feeling is not “racism”, but honesty. I believe that denying this in fear of offending someone is a bigger problem. Every culture since creation has had racism/bigotry issues and we should work on them, but succumbing to “Political Correctness” as a way to appease the offended, simply makes us the victims of intimidation by the offended “bullies”. Christians are continually persecuted around the globe. In many nations, the persecution is physical and often fatal. In our culture, while not physical, Christians are often persecuted by verbal assault, demeaning or condescending talk or worse, treated as second class citizens by violating our rights. Jesus tells us in His Word that we
The “PC Police” have weakened our nation by cowering in fear to a minority of people. WILL suffer persecution for Him and the history of our faith proves that to be true. Yet, it is strange that the Church often buys into the intimidation of the politically correct agenda. The “PC Police” have weakened our nation by cowering in fear to a minority of people. In fact, two of the most feared and appeased groups are gays and muslims. It’s interesting to me that while most of the people in these two groups are not likely to seek anything from the “powers that be”, a minority of both gays and muslims have used a “victim” agenda to gain rights not afforded the rest of us. Hate Crimes, for example, cater to the homosexual and not the heterosexual. The United Nations is considering a “hate speech” policy that favors Islam above other world religions (see page 10 for more on this). Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are threatened when we cower to any group that pushes its own cause rather than the equality of all. Publications that don’t hesitate to spoof
Christians would not think to joke about Muslim icons. We are a nation in fear those who call themselves “victims”. Recently several major newspapers decided not to run a Non-sequitor cartoon because it might have offended Muslims. The cartoon displayed a cover of a “Where’s Waldo?” popular children’s puzzle book. At the bottom it said “Where’s Mohammad?” The cartoon was not run, even thought it really had no racist “message”, simply because of the name reference. Contemporary culture has appointed a new number one sin, beyond the seven deadly sins of old. The new highest priority sin is “intolerance”. Christians in particular are often most accused of being intolerant and strive (often unbiblically) to defend against being that way. The Church has made great efforts to embrace the culture because we know that Jesus Love ALL of these people. Since, Jesus loves them, we should as well. The problem is in our definition and application of such “Love”. Scripture says to “speak the Truth in Love”. There are three very key words there. First, we are to “speak” it and not be silent or in denial of it. Second, we are to speak “truth”, not lies no matter how culturally unpalatable that truth might be. Third, we are to do so in “love”, not hate. Radical followers of a different Jesus (such as the Westboro Church) miss badly on this part, as do
other judgmental, legalistic Christians. Love is the hallmark of the Christian faith, as it was the foundation of Jesus life and ministry and even the very motivation for Hid death. But Jesus loved “hard”. His love was not always tender, though it was when appropriate. At other times it was gritty, sacrificial, and indignant. His love was and is confrontational as well as merciful. Our love should be the same. To pander to some out of fear of offense or to walk gingerly around others due to intimidation is NOT the way of Christ, nor His people. Let us resolve, as God’s Ambassadors, to Speak the Truth in Love, rather than being silent in fear!

The Language of Praise
Equipped For Battle
By Paula McBride
by Chaplain Christian Biscotti
"Train your brain in minutes a day!" the advertisement read. But when I played Brain Age, and it rated me at eighty-two, I was mortified. Are manufacturers capitalizing on the failing memories of seniors? "Do this or that," they say, "to combat the effects of the aging brain, yet the game route thoroughly depressed me. Still, I wanted to do something to encourage mental longevity, so I decided to learn a language. "Which one?" I thought. The little girl I sponsor through Compassion International lives in Nicaragua, and I'd love to visit her some day, so Spanish seemed good choice. "Which product?" was my next choice, and I decided to go with Rosetta Stone because of its proven success and total immersion emphasis. As I do my lessons, I wonder if I am putting as much effort into the language I'll be speaking in eternity, the language of praise. Does learning how to praise take study and practice? Let's suppose we were looking for a curriculum that taught praise. We'd look through self-help books, parenting books, love language books, and compare them with our Bibles. The Bible would win hands down as the best textbook on praise. Then the total immersion begins. We get into God's Word and studiously read for meaning and application. We sit under the teaching of those fluent in the truth of Scripture. We interact with fellow students and practice the language of praise. Before we know it, some of the key vocabulary words make sense.
WE NOW RAIN DO ALSO TTERS GU
One phrase we begin to use is "You are……." We've learned God's attributes from the textbook, and we reflect these back to Him. We are able to say to God, "You are holy, You are wise, You are sovereign, You do all things well." Just as there is no limit to God, there is no limit to the ways we could praise Him with statements that begin with "You are". Another phrase in the vocabulary of praise is "I will…." Psalm 119 is a chapter full of this way to praise. Just a few examples are: I will praise you with an upright heart (vs. 7), I will obey your decrees (vs. 8), I will meditate on your wonders (vs. 27), I will not forget your law (vs. 61). These commitments back to God in response to who He is and what He has done for us are intimate forms of praise. We can't leave out the phrase "Thank You!" This is an important phrase in any language. We give thanks in good times and bad, in all circumstances as Paul wrote in I Thessalonians 5:18. This is a very high level in the language of praise because it's the hardest to do. These are only a few features of our curriculum in the language of praise. It will take a lifetime to learn this heavenly dialect. However, studying is not enough. We must practice it continually. We can't neglect spending time with others who speak the language fluently. Language is definitely a phenomenon that "rubs off" as we are immersed in it. Let's make sure, as we prepare for Thanksgiving, that we are also "thanks-living" as we speak the language of praise.

“Dating” God If my records are correct, in 11 years as an Army and Air Force chaplain and 5 years as a local pastor, I’ve professionally met with 5,000 people discussing every issue you can imagine. One of the top 10 questions people ask me goes something like this, “If God is real, how do we see Him or get to know Him?” Good question! One answer to this question I often share begins with another question, “How did you get to know your spouse or significant other?” If you answered, “Well, we dated for awhile, talked a lot on the phone and in person, took walks together, went out, had fun, wrote letters and even spent time with each other’s families,” then I would say, “That is exactly how you get to know God--date Him.” Though God is deity, God is a person with a personality. God has a voice, eyes, ears, and a sense of humor. If we are “created in His image” then we have a good idea what God is like. And the same way you grew closer with your spouse is the same way you grow closer with God. My wife, Laurie, and I met at a hotel. Not what you think! We worked together. We didn’t go on our first date for almost a year, but we “dated” in the sense that we spent 40 hours a week together at work and became best friends. We talked a lot and listened carefully. When we began to officially date, we wrote letters to one another. I opened mine with great excitement and read each letter several times over because they were love letters from my sweetheart to me. But I knew we were getting “deep” into our relationship when I met her family and began to spend time with them. Our relationship

culminated when I asked her to move to Germany with me (a disguised proposal) and we got married 21 July 1997, have spent 13 priceless years together, have 4 daughters (and one on the way, due May 20th, the day my mom passed away…), and have lived all over the globe. Relationship is the key! If you want to see and know God, date Him. Prayer is a spiritual word for “talking to God.” Go on walks with God, talk to Him and listen to His voice (John 10:27). He created us to be in relationship with Him. Love letters! God wrote us 66 love letters, couched in history, called the Bible. They share a simple message from God to us: “I love you, Family!" In spiritual terms, family is the church. I really learned a lot about my wife when I spent time with her family. The same is true with God’s family, the church. If I told my wife, “I love you, but can’t stand your family” (this has happened a few times), this would affect our relationship. The same is true in God’s economy; we really can’t love God without learning to love His family, the church. Lastly, dating is great, but marriage is where it all begins. We have to make a commitment to God to truly enter into a living, vibrant relationship with God. God is jealous in this regard. I’ve now walked with God for 24 years and with my wife for 13 years (plus the two years of dating). I stay in a healthy relationship with both by pursuing them with zeal, love, respect, and passion. Every day we should pursue God with the same passion we pursued our spouses before they said, “I do.” This will make all the difference! Go on a date with God today.

Be Careful What You Wish For
God in the Rearview Mirror
By Jon Skillman
I sometimes find myself cherrypicking bible passages to validate or excuse my actions. This often leads to a gross misinterpretation of God’s Word. This came to light the other day while reading John 15:7, which says in part, “… ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” I remember thinking; that’s pretty cool… I wish I’d win the lottery. But I don’t think that’s the true message Jesus is trying to convey here. Besides, that catchy Lotto slogan warns me; “You can’t win if you don’t play.” This is true, but I much prefer to think of it as… If I don’t play, I can’t loose. But I digress. Am I to assume from this passage that Jesus is my personal genie, to be called upon to grant my every wish? Of course not! One thing I have learned from my bible reading is that I must take verses in their entirety. So, let me go back and re- read John 15:7. “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” (NIV) Uh-oh… It starts off with that irritating little “If” word… meaning a condition must be met… which probably means I’ll have to do something. Shoot! So, what exactly does Jesus mean by: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you?” I think He’s telling me that, if I’m truly born again in Him, and living by His will, I wouldn’t even consider asking for worldly things or to satisfy human desires. I would however, ask for things that would make me a better Christian and help fulfill His purpose for my life.
By Ronnie McBrayer
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” (NIV) I’m also learning, through bible reading that rarely does a verse stand-alone. I need to read the verses that both precede and follow it to better define the meaning and understand the context in which it is written. For our example of John 15:7, if I go to John 15:5. Jesus says: “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” There are a couple of points here that help clarify John 15:7. First: if I remain in Him, I will bear much fruit… Not necessarily my fruit (like winning the Lotto), but a harvest for God’s Kingdom. My share in the harvest will be joy… and love… and peace. A second clarifying point in verse 15:5 comes from: “… apart from me you can do nothing.” This means two things. First, all things come from Him, and without Him I’m useless, and second; if I’m cut off from Him, He will not even hear what it is I wish for. If I now go to John 15:8, it says: “This is to My father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” Wow! This is the ultimate answer to all my wishes.

Many of us live under this false and harmful idea that God secretly dislikes us. He is the angry landlord who only comes around when the rent is due. Or He is the cosmic traffic cop maintaining the mother of all speed traps, itching to write a ticket and meet his quota of the condemned. We see him in our rearview mirror. Our palms begin to sweat and our body tightens. We drive through life terrified that the smirking, mirror-lensed God is about to turn on the blue lights and arrest us. Yet, God is not after us, not with condemnation any way. He pursues us with his love. Belief in Jesus is belief in God, and Jesus’ coming into the world signaled that we have no reason to fear, for Jesus did not come to save us from God. Jesus came to reveal who God really is, and to save us from our sins, removing the darkness of condemnation. Jesus, as light and savior of the world, shows that we are welcomed into God’s loving arms. I have three children, children who sometimes make me bonkers. I lose my cool, rant and rave, and lose patience; all those things parents regrettably do. Yes, I
want my children to obey me. Yes, I want them to respect and honor me. But I do not want my children to be afraid of me. I don’t want them to feel that they must keep their distance, or that I’m out to get them. I want them to draw near to me, even more so when things are not going as well as they should. How much more with our heavenly Father? The traffic cop God should be avoided, but not the God revealed to us in Jesus the Christ. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Your Body- Your Temple
The Monkey Story
Faith in Action - By Dan Duran
By John Imler
1 Corinthians 6:19-20- Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. “Fat Free,” “Sugar Free,” “Less Fat,” “Low Sugar,” “High in Fiber,” “Low Glycemic,” “No Trans Fats,” etc., etc. Labels and packaging – Do you really know what you are buying? I tell my clients that the best thing they can learn to do in order to make healthy choices is to learn to read labels. Below are some tips for label and ingredient reading. Carbohydrates: Get 45 percent to 65 percent of your daily calories from carbohydrates. Emphasize complex carbohydrates, especially from whole grains and beans, and nutrient-rich fruits and milk. Limit sugars and other sweets. Figure out the net carb count by taking the Total Carbohydrates less Dietary Fiber less Sugar Alcohol. A strict net carb goal is a single digit. Fats: Limit fat to 20 - 35 percent of your daily calories. Emphasize fats from healthier sources, such as nuts and olive, canola and peanut oils. Avoid saturated and trans fats, and minimize polyunsaturated fats except for omega-3s. Saturated Fats: Saturated fat is most often found in animal products such as red meat, poultry, butter, and whole milk. Saturated fat is the main dietary culprit in raising your blood cholesterol and increasing your risk of coronary artery disease. Limit your daily intake of saturated fat to no more than 10 percent of your total calories.
Cholesterol: Cholesterol is vital to the structure and function of all your cells, but it's also the main substance in fatty deposits (plaques) that can develop in your arteries. Your body makes all of the cholesterol it needs for cell function. You get additional cholesterol by eating animal foods, such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy products, and butter. Limit your intake of cholesterol to no more than 300 milligrams a day. Fiber: Fiber is the part of plant foods that your body doesn't digest and absorb. There are two basic types: soluble and insoluble. Insoluble fiber adds bulk to your stool. Soluble fiber may help improve your cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Males should have 30-38 grams and females 21-26 grams per day. Protein: Protein is found in animal sources and in many plant sources as well. Legumes, seafood, meat, dairy products, nuts and seeds are your richest sources of protein. Between 10 percent and 35 percent of your total daily calories should come from protein. Individuals trying to lose body fat while maintaining muscle mass or who do regular resistance training can require twice this amount. Ingredients: The ingredients are listed in order of the amount of the item in the product. Try to avoid choosing foods which list sugar or refined flours in the first seven ingredients. As I consider the importance of my thoughts at the beginning of each new day, I realize that the thoughts that occupy my mind during the rest of the day are also important because they will affect my attitude and actions. I remember from my youth the story of the three wise monkeys: See No Evil, Hear No Evil, and Do No Evil. In research, I found that there was sometimes a fourth monkey: Say No Evil. I realize that this will take a lot of selfcontrol, as I think of all the ways Satan provides for us to see and hear evil. Galatians 5:22 encourages us to use selfcontrol. The first part of the verse gives the clue of how to do this otherwise impossible task: “But the fruit of the Spirit is...self control.” Only as we strive to walk within the power of the Holy Spirit are we able to See No Evil and Hear No Evil (Galatians 5:16 and 5:25). The key to this is “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11). This is the method Jesus himself used in dealing with the devil’s temptation (Luke 4: 1-13). God has promised that His Spirit will remind us of the words necessary in our battle to See No Evil and Hear No Evil (John 14:25). We will need the same assistance to live up to the other two: Do No Evil and
Say No Evil. We are admonished in numerous scriptures to do just that (Psalms 19:14; Prov. 13:3; Col 3:8; and Rom. 12:7). James admonishes us with these words: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27). So both as we start our day and as we continue through it, let’s remember the goal: Today with the assistance of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:16), I will See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Do No Evil, and Say No Evil. Today and every day, I will strive to keep myself from being polluted by the world in which I live. I invite your comments or questions at john@faithrescued.com .

“The Twelfth Imam"
by Joel C. Rosenberg As Christians, we've heard about the second coming of Christ, the rapture, and the end of the age in our churches, on our podcasts, and in our reading materials often enough, we could probably quote it in our sleep. Ever wonder what OTHERS think about the end of time? Ever wonder what MUSLIMS believe about the end of time? If not, you really, really should. And who best to tell you that an author I believe to be THE expert on the subject, Joel C. Rosenberg. I think it's fitting that his latest novel releases so close to the anniversary of September 11, 2001. Joel's first work of fiction took those events into account, and that five-book series ended up on the New York Times Bestsellers list. "The Twelfth Imam" is destined for that list as well. Shirazi has been preparing for this day his entire life, though he didn't know it at the time. The leaders of Iran are calling for an apocalypse, one so great it will usher in the twelfth, or hidden, imam. In order to do so, Iran's nuclear weapons program must be on target, but figuratively and literally. It's CIA operative Shirazi's task to infiltrate that network of annihilation and derail their plans. But does David know what he is truly up against? A mysterious cleric has appeared in Iran, claiming to be the prophesied Muslim messiah. Signs and wonders are popping up everywhere: healings, miracles, and unnatural events follow his path. It would seem the Muslim prophecy has been fulfilled. What about Scripture? What about Jesus? How do all the pieces to this prophetic puzzle fit together, and what part does Iran's nuclear capabilities really play in it all? Joel Rosenberg takes us back to the days of Ayatollah Khomeini, reminding us of the turmoil that took place in the late 1970's...then rapidly flashes us forward to the eve of 9/11 and the events that changed the lives of Americans... ...specifically David Shirazi and Marseille Harper.

and the United States. Ultimately, it's like a cast of hundreds, with each playing a pivotal part in the events to come. So don't miss a name....pay close attention to every detail... You'll learn more about the Muslim view of the end of the age than you'd ever glean from a thousand hours of CNN, FOX News, and network news combined...and you'll be able to bank on what you learn, because Joel Rosenberg views events through three lenses: economic, political, and Biblical. The media had a field day with the WMD's of Iraq...you'll be fascinated by the realities of "The Twelfth Imam", seeing how it all fits together...even the faulty intelligence that led to the war in Iraq...or was it false? Joel Rosenberg has spent countless hours, days, weeks and months interviewing both the famous, the infamous, and the unknown to glean information that will have the hair on the back of your neck standing at attention. With over 2 million copies of his books sold, I think you can be assured he knows what he's talking about. But don't just take my word for it. Pick up a copy of "The Twelfth Imam", published by Tyndale (my thanks to them and Beverly for my advanced copy-which I DEVOURED in two days!) and releasing mid-October 2010. In the meantime, "The Twelfth Imam" gets The Golden Bookmark from me for Overall Excellence and Relevance in Writing. Be warned: there's GOT to be a

Here I Go Again! By Dave Kugelman I am sorry for being repetitive on this topic but I cannot help myself. And let me apologize for any future articles that address the same thing. On second thought, I retract my apology because what I am about to share is Biblical truth! The name of Jesus continues to be a point of great contention. Military Chaplains are being told that they cannot pray in the name of Jesus. Many schools restrict Valedictorians from mentioning Jesus Christ during graduation ceremonies. There have been cases where school officials have turned off microphones during these graduation speeches when students mention the name of Jesus. I personally am inspired by these young disciples who stand up for Christ regardless of the opposition. I am reminded of Peter and John when they were told never to speak to anyone in Jesus’ name again. Their response: "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? We cannot stop telling about the wonderful things we have seen and heard." (Acts 4:19-20) Jesus said that he did not come to bring peace, but a sword. Following Jesus will bring division. Speaking His name will bring division. Yet I find that there is a growing number of Pastors and Christians who believe there are certain scenarios where they should not use His
BUSINESS ALLIANCE name. Their reason? They don’t want to offend people of other faiths or nonbelievers. Huh? What about our Christian brothers and sisters around the world who are imprisoned, tortured or killed because they won’t deny Jesus? These brave souls stand up for Jesus no matter the threat. Yet, many American Christians won’t mention the name of Jesus because they want to appease the politically correct crowd. God help us. The answer to the world’s problems is Jesus Christ. Satan knows this and as a result has influenced many to deny his name in prayer or in a non-Christian public setting. Don’t allow yourself to fall prey to this demonic strategy. Ask the Holy Spirit for supernatural courage to speak His name regardless of a real or perceived threat. David Kugelman is the president of the Christian Business Alliance. The CBA is a marketplace ministry that encourages believers to represent Jesus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If this interests you, consider attending one of our weekly Tuesday meetings. The United Nations is considering a resolution that could be dangerous to Christians and other faiths -- except Islam. Craig McDonald of Christian Freedom International (CFI) tells OneNewsNow that later this year the General Assembly will take up the Defamation of Religions Resolution. “...That [resolution] will criminalize any words or actions determined to be adverse to a particular religion," says the CFI spokesman. "It's being proposed by the Organization of Islamic Conference, which is an inter-governmental body comprised of 57 states with significantly Muslim populations.” McDonald points out that the resolution is designed to silence -- and possibly persecute -- faiths other than Islam. "Blasphemy" laws in Muslimmajority countries like Pakistan, he points out, are used mainly against Christians. "If it passes, this [resolution] could basically give [governments and extremist groups] lawful authority to persecute other faiths, minority faiths, if you're in a heavily dominated Muslim country," he explains. It could also impact the United States in squelching freedom of speech. So McDonald is urging people worldwide to contact the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, and express their objections -- and in that process become a voice for the voiceless. CFI provides contact information on its website. According to CFI, various forms of the resolution have been proposed since 1999.
Roommate Hunt Turns Into Civil Rights Case
A Michigan woman is in a quandary as the state has accused her of discrimination and blocked her search for a roommate. The woman lives in Grand Rapids and is represented by Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorney Joel Oster, who explains that she "posted an ad on her church bulletin board, seeking a Christian roommate." His client, who is a single, 31year-old woman, "feels like it's important to share her space with someone [who] would have the same beliefs [so] they can edify her in her beliefs.” But after posting the ad, she received notice that a complaint was filed with the Fair Housing Center of West Michigan, alleging she discriminated against someone based on religion. "Unfortunately, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights processed this complaint and is going after my client, claiming she violated the law simply by posting an ad or seeking a roommate who is Christian," Oster laments. According to the attorney, that violates the woman's right to religious freedom and expression, as well as her freedom of association. Oster decides the case is an outrage, and he plans to fight for his client every step of the way.

COMMUNITY Cleaning For A Reason
Sponsor Spotlight
by Ericka Pelechowicz
I clean for health, safety, prevention, and the eighty fingers and toes that run around my house everyday! Those are a few of the reasons why I clean. I will admit that I ADORE cleaning. I have always enjoyed it and growing up I would often volunteer to clean for people. It was not just for money but also to help them out. It always seemed to brighten someone's day and relieve stress. Cleaning has always been my ministry. A few years ago, our pastor was preaching about using the gifts and talents God gave us. Well, I laughed out loud and said, “Ok, God. Do you want me to cook or clean?” The answer was clearly "CLEAN!" I don’t know if you consider cleaning a talent, but I’m claiming that it is! I can’t sing, dance, act, or even write well, but BOY, can I clean a toilet! My business is named after how I like things, which is Simply Clean. I need to get the word out about one of the most precious reasons we clean. Simply Clean has teamed up with one

of the most amazing non-profit organizations, "Cleaning for a Reason". As their web site states, “Fighting cancer is difficult enough, but living with it is even tougher.” We are proud to give our time and offer free cleaning to women who are currently undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. We are one of hundreds of cleaning services in different parts of the nation that are donating their cleaning services and time. If you or someone you know qualifies for this service, I encourage you to go their web site and begin the process of signing up. If you are a residential cleaning service that is licensed and bonded, I pray you offer your services and time! Please visit www.cleaningforareason.org. I have good and sad stories. I have precious memories forever now, and I have met some truly amazing, blessed, strong women! I honestly can’t tell you who has benefited more from the cleaning.

Message to the Community/Other Comments: To say that faith has no place in our politics is to miss what our Founding Fathers understood to be true, namely that the Truth of the Gospel has real power and relevance, not only in the pulpit, but everywhere and in everything that we as a people do. This is the power that brought us through the Revolution, that guided us through the Founding, and which has been an active part of every significant event in our history; a power without which our Republic could not and cannot be kept.

The Foothill Ministerial Fellowship The Foothill Ministerial Fellowship is comprised of diverse, local Christian churches (Brownsville, Clipper Mills, Challenge, Oregon House, Rackerby, and Forbestown). USMC is a youth ministry which provides for a Christian environment of Bible teaching; games; fellowship and discipleship. Additionally, we provide an evening meal for all youth in attendance. We invite you to send your youth (7th – 12th graders) to USMC for Bible instruction and some wholesome fun! Our meetings are on Friday evenings, from 5:30 to 7:30 in the Marge Moore Youth Building (the old Grange) in Brownsville. As always, the meetings and meals are free. For more information, please call Don Younce 675-0661. Following is the ministry’s statement of beliefs. Statement of Beliefs For United Student Ministries for Christ (USMC). A Youth Ministry of the Foothill Ministerial Fellowship 1. The Word of God (Holy Bible) is wholly inspired by God, contains accurate historical record of events and is the inspired and infallible Word of God Almighty; that it is the inerrant and final authority by which we are taught and are to conduct our lives. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21) 2. The One True God who exists eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:15, 19:26, 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Psalms 139:1-12; John 14:16,17) 3. The Diety Of The Lord Jesus Christ in His virgin birth; His sinless life, miracles, substitutionary work on the cross; His bodily resurrection from the dead; His exaltation to the right hand of God the Father. (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:31,35; Hebrews 7:26, 9:24; 1 Peter 2:22; Colossians 1:5-17) 4. The Fall Of Mankind and each individual’s separation from God because of sin, whose total depravity requires that one must be re-born (Born again) by the washing of regeneration and renewing of
the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26,27, 2:17; 3:6; Romans 5:12-19; Titus 3:5-7) 5. The Holy Spirit Is The Third Person Of The Godhead and was actively involved in the birth of the Church; He is also the Spirit of Truth that regenerates and places us into the Body of Christ (the Church) and remains in us, enabling the born-again Believer to be a witness to the world of God’s love and forgiveness. (John 14:13-15, 14:17, 16:7,8; 1 Corinthians 6:19,20; Acts 1:8, 2:1-7) 6. The Holy Spirit Equips the Church with ministry gifts to carry out God’s plan for His Church, bringing glory to our Lord, Jesus Christ. (John 16:13-15; Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11) 7. Salvation of Mankind Mankind’s only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. (John 3:1-21, 6:44-69; Luke 24:4-7; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11; 2 Peter 2:24) 8. Water Baptism Water Baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit". (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47,48; Romans 6:3,4; Titus 3:5) 9. Holy Communion The individual commemoration of the Lord’s sacrificial death on behalf of mankind. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26) 10. The Bodily Resurrection of the believer when the Lord, Jesus Christ returns to take His Bride (the Church) to be with Him forever. (John 14:1-3; 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17; Romans 8:23) 11. The Church (The Body of Christ) is the embodiment of Christ in born-again believers by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Its mission is to proclaim the Good News of the birth, sinless life, death and resurrection of the Lord, Jesus Christ and that “Blessed Hope” of eternal life with Him. The Apostle Paul also likens the Church as a body made up of many members working in unison to achieve the plan of God and the building up of one another in the FAITH. Jesus prayed that we would all become one in relationship to the Father and the Son. (John 17:20-23; Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 4:1-16)

OPINIONS AS WE SEE IT
Could You Repeat The Question? Religious Ignorance by Chuck Colson
The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life recently asked more than 3,000 Americans 32 questions about religionsubjects such as the Bible, world religions, and important religious figures. The sad results, I guess, were predictable. But they also put an exclamation point on my commitment to teaching Christian worldview. The average respondent got only half of the answers right and, what’s worse, many respondents couldn’t correctly answer questions about their own professed religion. For instance, 45 percent of Catholics surveyed couldn’t identify their church’s teaching about Holy Communion. More than half of Protestants couldn’t identify Martin Luther. And 43 percent of Jews didn’t know that Maimonides, the great Jewish rabbi and philosopher, was Jewish. If Americans struggled on matters concerning their own professed religion, they knew even less about other people’s religion. Not all groups scored the same: Professed atheists and agnostics scored the highest! Next highest were Mormons and Jews. As you might expect, atheists crowed upon hearing the news: One atheist told the New York Times that giving a Bible to your child was the best way to make him an atheist. Hardly. As Ross Douthat of the Times pointed out, self-described atheists are likely to have a “high level of interest in religious detail and debate.” Their knowledge greatly exceeds that of “many self-described Methodists or cradle Catholics who have a vague belief in God and show up at church on holidays.” But that’s cold comfort, especially when you actually see the multiple-choice questions being asked. Even the ones

about church and state relations or the dominant religion in Pakistan ought to be obvious to anyone who has ever read a newspaper. The sad fact is that for many American Christians, faith is a warm, fuzzy that has little to do with knowledge and understanding. The default creed is fast becoming what sociologist Wesley Smith calls “moral therapeutic deism,” which holds that the “central goal of life is to be happy and to feel good about oneself.” In this worldview, all religions are pretty much the same, so what any particular religion teaches isn’t as important as being “good, nice, and fair to each other.” Of course, that kind of insipid, inarticulate belief never inspired anyone to live well, especially when living well cost them something. That’s because it cannot give an account for the hope that inspires people to live well! This is why I’m devoting the remainder of my ministry to teaching Christian worldview. The answer to “How Now Shall We Live?” is inseparable from the content of “The Faith.” Christian living and apologetics require a solid knowledge of what Christianity teaches and its history. Many of the objections to and charges against Christianity are based on little more than distortions and even fabrications. If we don’t know the real story, we can’t respond. Or even those of us who do know the real story are often intimidated. We don't want to sound judgmental or harsh, and so we don't speak up. The result is that myths about the faith go unchallenged. More than any survey results, that should motivate us to understand what it is we profess and to be able to defend it in the market place.
Celebrating Five Years in Print! By Seth Halpern In November of 2005, the first issue of The Ambassador Christian Newspaper hit the streets. It was distributed in merely 13 locations which included four churches. I was new in the area, having moved to Yuba City from San Jose just a few years prior. Not many of you knew me and I didn’t know many of you. Thanks to God and to some people who caught the vision, including Dave Kugelman and Sean Blount, The Ambassador would make it out of that unknown stage. Now, five years and 60 issues later, The Ambassador is distributed across Yuba, Sutter, and Butte counties and can be found in over 250 locations including 70 churches! Since our “ministry anniversary” is in November, it is appropriate to give thanks to all those who have partnered with us with their finances and their effort. Sixty issues means a lot of inspirational and thought provoking content contributed by wonderful, God-gifted writers. 250 locations means we’ve been blessed with a faithful delivery team who ministers through delivering copies every month, using their own gas! Individual sponsors (many of them also on the “delivery team”) have seen the value of this ministry to bring the Hope of Christ to our community. Yet, the most integral of all, our Ministry Partners and Business Sponsors have truly kept the presses rolling each month and food on our family’s kitchen
Seth Halpern - Editor table. Since its inception, The Ambassador has been a labor of love through both exciting and difficult times. God has allowed me to implement my passion to serve as a resource to the community. Although 60 months of deadlines and headlines has grayed my surviving hair, I know that the purpose of our move from San Jose was not in vain. I now have friends and partners in ministry far beyond my own natural ability. I would have never imagined that this transition would bring hope not only to our family but to the many, many readers who have allowed me and the Ambassador team to speak into your lives. I hope we have encouraged you when you were downhearted, informed you of things you hadn’t otherwise heard that affect your faith and life, challenged you in areas of growth, and connected you to others in the Body of Christ. Our goal has always been to build up the local Body of Christ so that we can be a true reflection of Jesus to the world around us. If you are one of my “teammates” then please accept my thanks for your support. If you haven’t yet come on board, I would ask you to consider a small investment of time, effort, or money. There are many worthy activities to invest in locally. I ask that you consider The Ambassador Ministry as one of them.
