Have You Forgotten?

by Amy Wingfield On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, most of our lives changed forever. Do you remember where you were that Tuesday morning? Like those that worked at the Pentagon and World Trade Centers, most were on their way to work or school. Moms and dads kissed their children goodbye at the daycare center, promising to, "see you soon." Wives kissed husbands and passed them their morning coffee with no knowledge that they would not be home for dinner that night. For the thousands of lives lost to the tragedy of 9/11, remember that most of them were just like me and you--middle-class Americans going to work, making a living and taking care of their family.

There is much to be passed down to those who don't remember the events of 9/11.Think of the unborn children who never knew their fathers who died on 9/11. Some children were still so little that they ask each year, " What happened on September 11?" As painful as it may be, (even I cannot view the video without breaking down, see sidebar), do it anyway. Tell the story every year just as the Israelites retell the stories behind Passover and Hanukkah and Christians retell the stories behind Christmas and Easter. Teach the children and generations to come that this is a country that is built on, " In God We Trust." There's been a lot of hype over the pastor in Florida who planned to burn Korans in order to "send a message to Islam." Remember what Jesus told us while He walked this earth, "But I tell you:love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you" Matthew 5:44 (NIV). "But I tell you who hear me:love your enemies, do good to those who hate you" Luke 6:27(NIV). Nothing will be overcome through hatred. Burning Korans will just create more hate. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 13:6-8 that "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." This is what all the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 taught us. We as Americans, all became one that day, unified in the fact that Islamic extremists considered us all unworthy and wanted to destroy us all. For the victims of 9/11, there was no distinction between race, creed, color or re-

women's publication, Crowned With Silver. Amy has combined her passion for writing and for Christian music. She encourages everyone to listen carefully to the words of each song. There's always a story behind the music. Christian music is filled with inspiration and hope.

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" John 15:13 (NIV). Ten years later, would you do the same today, if faced with that choice? Have you forgotten? Pioneer Soul

When

by Stacy Barker

by Elizabeth Hexberg When I am unlovely, You Love me. When I feel alone, You are here. When I start to crumble, You raise me to stand. Wiping away every tear. When fear overwhelms, You are courage. When weary , You carry me through, When there is no way, Lord, You find one. Promised, Perfected, and True. When I hide from the world, You won't let me Gently You draw me back in. Restoring my Faith, and Your calling, Regardless of self and my sin. When life leaves me dirty, You Cleanse me. When empty, You fill me anew. When I wander, You find me, Forgive and remind me, All that I am is for You.

Pioneerchik. My new twitter name. What does it mean? A pioneer explores a new place; unchartered territory where the possibilities are limitless. I forge a new trail through an untamed wilderness where the beauty is endless and the adventure unforgettable. Christ is my guide. He leads the way. I trust that He knows the way and yet at times I hate the route He has chosen. Sometimes the scenery is ugly; dry and desolate to my very soul. Often there are thorns and bristles along the path and they scratch and scrape me; leaving me with bloody wounds and lifelong scars. This path is steep and rocky with narrow switchbacks that don’t allow me to see what’s ahead. The climb feels relentless to my body and soul. The Guide takes my hand and leads me. Sometimes I linger at the large stones in my path; sit down on them and rest. Sometimes I rest too long, and those stones become comfortable and secure. Yet the Guide pushes me on, telling me to reach out and take His strong and scarred hand. At other times there is no way around the obstacle and I must take a leap of faith. I trust the Guide to catch me, and He does. After these leaps I feel energized; like all things are possible, and I know they are - with the Guide. We continue the trudge up the mountain and I tire. As I look for my own way

my body becomes less energized. I can go no further. I sit down in the soft mud of the path that is my life. It feels good, soft; almost soothing to my weariness. I lather it on like I’m at a spa day, thinking that I’m rejuvenating myself; doing something good for “me”. Soon the mud is dry and cracked all over, and I feel dirty. I try to get up, but my feet sink deep into the muddy place. I don’t like what has happened and begin to search frantically for the Guide. My soul begins to cry out in anguish. I look up and find His hand reaching out to me. He pulls me from the pit and sets me back on the path. Why does He always come for me? How many times have I willed Him to go ahead? How often have I sat comfort-

Benefits Of Membership

A Holy Scrubbing

by Jan Duke

by Paula McBride

There is a daily onslaught of direct mail, phone solicitations, local and global causes, friends and even churches in dire straights, all pleading for our help. Because of our economy, some of you reading this may be in financial difficulty, needing assistance too. Unfortunately, I rarely hear much about tapping into God’s wealth, as though his promise (Malachi 3:10) doesn’t really apply to all of us. Phooey!!! Either His word is true or you didn’t apply for membership that includes access to Kingdom Wealth! If wealth wasn’t a benefit of following God’s laws, why would Abraham be the role model (Gen.13: 1-2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.) All membership “signups” involve a process, and the Kingdom Club application starts with accepting Christ’s free gift, paid for Him, meaning salvation. All organizations, be it Rotary, Kiwanis, LeTip, Unions, business groups or even volunteer associations, require a level of commitment to follow the rules or bylaws: show up, pay up, cooperate, and believe in the basic principles. To do otherwise may cause you to be a “fringer” or be booted from the organization. The principle of sowing and reaping is not a seasonal process. There is no harvest without preparing the soil, seeding, weeding, tending and watering before any harvest is produced. You must plant

all year for regular reaping of produce or rewards. Not all harvest is immediate, as growth and pruning are required for vines and fruit trees to provide food for our families. Would you really expect that peach tree to produce the first year you planted it? Why would you automatically assume there would be immediate harvest from any worthwhile endeavor, whether from investing in your business, family and friends or any other cause? Ecclesiastes 11:1 tells us to cast our bread/grain upon the waters, and it shall return after many days. There is a principle of action and reaction at work, and there has to be action first. If you sit and wait for a blessing of rich harvest without ever planting a seed, you’re in for a long wait. You’ve missed the concept! Don’t ask for prosperity before you start giving. Luke 6:38 says to give and it will be given to you. The way you measure it shall be measured back to you. Frankly, you have to be the giver of good measure first, whether produce from your garden, helping a friend, generosity to customers, offerings at church, etc. True giving expects no return, but it is the unexpected reward of faithful giving that causes the harvest to be bountiful. There is a common phrase I like, “The hole through which you give is the hole through which you will receive.”

“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news” Isaiah 52:7 Can you help bring “Good News” to our community? The Ambassador needs volunteers to help deliver to locations throughout Yuba, Sutter, and Butte counties. If you can help once a month for an hour or two, please call The Ambassador at 530-933-1385 or email editor@ambassadornewspaper.com

The youthful female driver flashed a welcoming smile as I climbed aboard a gray-painted short bus. Still bleary-eyed from the early morning, I greeted her as we left the misson at 6:30 a.m. to pick up day care kids from the Baja California community of Vicente Guerrero. As a one-week visitor to an orphanage sponsored by Foundation for His Ministry, this aspect of my service was assisting in the care of children ages 2-6 who would otherwise be left home alone. For an hour, we bumped and bounced over rutted dirt roads sounding the Mexican doorbell, the horn. Little ones, some still in pajamas, came sleepily from their dwellings, and gradually wakened as they climbed aboard, saw their friends, teachers, and the pale-skinned visitors. Some, though, fell back to sleep in warm adult arms or across the vinyl seat. Some were absent due to chicken pox, but when we returned to the mission, twenty-three kids piled out of the bus and headed toward their building. Inside and without direction, they peeled off every stitch of their clothing. The boys headed toward the bathroom with the tub. Three or four boys at a time stood in the tub while their teacher sprayed them down from tip to toe and scrubbed their dusty heads. I helped the little ones dry off, they deposited their towel in the appropriate bin, and I helped them dress in clean clothes from their cubby. They next day would be the girls' turn for full baths, but today, they sponged down, changed clothes, and sat at a table where teachers brushed and styled their hair. Then they gobbled down a nourishing breakfast and joined in learning groups for the day. As I watched the dusty, crusty little boys and girls transform into sweetsmelling, glowing bundles of energy, I reflected on our call from Christ. We live in the poverty and filth of sin. It's all we know; we don't recognize our need. We stumble around in perceived righteousness that God calls filthy rags. We adopt "rag rights" in order to justify living for ourselves, getting rich in the eyes of the

world, and pursuing pleasure. Then God who sees beyond the tatters and grime into our hearts, sounds His call: "Come to Me! I will cleanse, clothe, feed, teach, and love you! Come to Me for a holy scrubbing!" Just as we didn't yank the kids into the bus that morning, God doesn't demand that we acknowledge His call. We can stay alone and be content with what is familiar. But what blessing for those who do climb aboard! The day care kids shared contagious joy--and the best cookies I ever tasted! The Father-heart of God longs for us to come into His presence for a holy scrubbing. He yearns to do for us what we have no power to do for ourselves--cleanse us from the stain of sin and clothe us with robes of righteousness. Let's acknowledge our need, accept His call, and live in His bounty. The psalmist expressed it like this: “I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For He has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness. I am like a bridegroom in his wedding suit or a bride with her jewels” (Isaiah 61:10). Let’s plunge in for our holy

scrubbing and live in overwhelming joy now and eternally!

INSPIRATION Lord Of The Harvest by Joyce Jordan It was an opportunity of a lifetime – beyond my greatest dreams. I’d served as children’s director in small and medium size churches, but to direct ministries for a church that averaged 500 first through sixth graders every Sunday morning was completely out of my grasp. When I arrived on the job the first Sunday morning, people were anxious to share their concerns. I confidently reassured them that we would resolve their issues. Then, Wednesday evening came. The girls’ classes were basically staffed, but to my horror all the boys, first through sixth grades, were in one room. The worst part. . . there was one teacher and 79 boys, and there were more challenges ahead. I was feeling a little less blessed, and a little less thankful than I had upon arrival. The joy of having such an “opportunity” had been replaced with “stark reality.” While the adult choir practiced (250 voices strong) their children played in the gym. Three workers stood along the walls watching 147 running, kicking, and screaming children with three basketballs. It was chaos! Someone was going to get hurt. I felt sick. I cried all the way home. In less than one week, my chance of a lifetime had become a living nightmare. I needed help and I didn’t know one person there – not the parents, not the leaders, not even staff members. I didn’t have a clue what to do. I spent most of that night on my face begging God for guidance. Early in the morning I started to resume my prayerful position when God said, “This is not your problem.” I was shocked at such a

weird “thought.” “That’s crazy! Of course it’s my problem.” Again God said, “It’s not your problem.” I argued, “What do you mean it’s not my problem? They’re expecting me to fix this.” He said, “Your job is to pray to the Lord of the harvest to bring forth laborers into His harvest field.” He didn’t give me the answer . . . He was the answer. It’s His field. It’s His harvest. “Lord, You have a problem,” I whispered, “and I’m willing to help You. Please tell me what You want me to do, and I will obey.” On the way to the church God said. “Call the man in charge of Promise Keepers and he will help you enlist men to teach the boys.” I didn’t even know the church had a Promise Keeper program. My phone rang at 10 and a man reported that one of his little boys was hurt during the gym time. He and his wife had decided to rotate staying home with the kids while the other attended choir-practice. I expressed my concern for his child and explained that I was aware of the situation. I told him we would hire more caregivers and provide more activities for the children. I also told him about the need for teachers for the boys’ classes, and how God had told me to call to the man in charge of Promise Keepers who would help me recruit teachers. The man asked if I knew who the director was. I said, “No, but I will before I leave the office today.” There was a pause, then he said, “I lead Promise Keepers, and I will help you find teachers for the boys.” It’s His field, His harvest, His laborers, our prayers.

Testimonies of God’s Grace I grew up in a great family with two older brothers and one younger sister. We never lacked for anything materially. We stayed busy but were never at church. My father is an airline pilot and thus was always at work and didn’t spend too much time at home. As a freshman in high school my parents went through a divorce. I ran to one of my older brothers for support at that time. He had dropped out of high school and began partying all the time. I was attracted to the fast cars, and the girls. Before I knew it I was involved in a gang and was an IV drug user. Then I was completely in over my head and addicted to drugs, and whole lost lifestyle. For the next few years I found myself in and out of the county jail. I burnt every bridge I had with my family. I remember not caring what was going to happen to me whether it was death or prison. Long days and nights led to depression and suicidal thoughts. June 20, 2010 was Father’s Day and my father didn’t even get a call from me. I was too busy trying to stay high. I ended up at my mom’s house wanting help. Within five days I was in Teen Challenge giving my life to Christ.

God has completely changed my heart and allowed me to live a new life. Not only has my family been restored but they trust and are fully supporting me. I have goals now of starting my own business to support myself while I go to Bible college. I feel called to be a youth pastor and use my experiences to help kids turn to God instead of drugs.

CBA MARKETPLACE MONTHLY

Saving U.S.

A call to action to restore the values that made America Great! by Dave Kugelman

I hope that the above headline captured your attention. The CBA will be hosting a powerful dinner meeting on Friday, November 4th.The event will be called “Saving U.S.” which carries a double meaning. The first is Saving the United States of America and the second (which is more important) is literally saving us (as in, you and me). As followers of Jesus Christ we know that the only hope for America is Jesus Christ. America is plagued by a variety of problems which include but are not limited to the following: • Financial crisis • Moral decline • Liberal Churches • Addictions • Broken Families • Corrupt Government Our government is trying to “fix” these problems by addressing the symptoms but Jesus Christ (by the power of the Holy Spirit) deals with the root cause, which is sin. It’s time we assert ourselves as Christians and become intentional in using our supernatural influence to help others find the Truth that will set them free! This will be a challenge to all believers in the Yuba Sutter Region to recognize that being a “light”, as Jesus clearly stated, requires action. That action will mean using our voices! Matthew 10:27 What I

tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the roofs. We will hear from several dynamic speakers that will encourage, challenge and inspire us to clearly live out what it is we all claim to believe. Please mark your calendars for November 4th. Flyers and tickets will be available October 1st. This event will be co-sponsored by the Ambassador Christian Newspaper as well as a few other organizations that share our Christian values. David Kugelman is the president of the Christian Business Alliance which meets each Tuesday at noon at various locations. RESOURCES A Peek At My Bookshelf

Recommended Reading by Deena Peterson “Pressing Into Thin Places" by Margaret Harrell Wills, EdD

I’ve loved the concept of ‘thin places’ since I read about them in Mary DeMuth’s memoir. The idea that we can have moments in our lives where Heaven and our earth are so close that the veil thins, giving us a glimpse into eternity just thrills my soul. So I was excited about Margaret Harrell Wills’ book, ‘Pressing Into Thin Places”. She took the idea and developed it into a practice...a life long habit of looking for or being aware of those ‘thin places’, and then diving in for all you can glean from them. The back cover defines ‘thin places’ as ‘a fleeting moment when Heaven and Earth converge’. Since read Margaret’s book, I’ve had many of these fleeting moments, and let me tell you...they are real, and they will change your life. I was in a thin place when a beloved son and husband died of brain cancer at the age of 31. Privileged to be at his bedside with his family, I witnessed his response to Scripture, prayer and song, even though he was in a coma. I watched as his family prayed for his release, and witnessed his last breath. I felt Heaven come down and glory filled my soul as praises went up immediately upon that young man’s departure. I was in a thin place when we sang hymns at the bedside of our oldest church

family member. Ninety-nine years in age, and all she longed for was one more time of worship with her church family...so we met together to give her that opportunity. Once again, Heaven touched Earth and changed me. Again, a thin place as on Easter Sunday morning of this year (2011), my dear husband and pastor called this saint’s home, allowing her family to put the phone on speaker so she could hear his Easter message...which we were told calmed her and brought peace instead of her pain. And when we later received word that she had slipped into eternity while hearing the Scriptures taught... ....well, talk about a thin place! I believe, as does Margaret, that we experience these ‘thin places’ more often than we realize, and I urge you to watch for them and press into them, as does Margaret. I realize this is less review and more sharing, but this is how Margaret’s book opened my eyes to this precious concept. Her book is brief, well-crafted, beautifully designed, and worth the investment. I urge you to pick up a copy for yourself, and one for a friend. I’m giving “Pressing Into Thin Places” five out of five bookmarks, with some tissues as a charm...when you feel those ‘thin places’...tears will flow like water...

POPCORN TIME!

Upcoming Films that Inspire by Seth Halpern

I’m always excited when something positive and God-glorifying comes to the “silver screen”. There is usually so much garbage coming from Hollywood that I don’t often look to see what’s playing in theaters. I know many Christians have resolved to avoid the cinema. While I respect their decision, I believe that there is occasionally a decent film that is worth seeing. I’m thankful for resources like Movieguide.org that help Christian families use discretion when making film choices. Fortunately, there are a few films of note that are scheduled for release later this month: “Courageous” and “Machine Gun Preacher”. I have looked for a good review of these films but have come up empty. Yet I still wanted to bring these to the attention of our readers. Although, I haven’t seen either one, there is quite a lot of “buzz” about them. “Courageous” which is scheduled for release at the end of September, is the fourth film by Sherwood Pictures which produced Flywheel, Facing the Giants and most notably Fireproof, Sherwood Pictures is the vision of several gifted leaders at Sherwood Baptist Church of Albany, GA. While the surprise box office hit “Fireproof” addressed the issue of marriage and the restoration of a broken marriage, “Courageous” deals with (the mostly lost art of ) Fatherhood. There has een a lot of talk and strategic publicity for

“Courageous” over the past year. Considering that Sherwood has made great strides toward quality and professionalism with each of their first three ventures, I am confident that this one will not disappoint.. If there is anything disappointing about the film’s release it is that it’s once again not scheduled for release in Yuba City. The Regal Theater in Natomas will be the closest theater showing it.. It seems that Cinemark in Yuba City didn’t learn their lesson after dropping the ball by not showing the hugely successful “Firecont. on pg. 14 - POPCORN

RESOURCES Do I Have to Forgive?

Excerpted from the book “Being Christian” by Steve Arterburn and John Shore There are two modes of consciousness possible for believers: Christ consciousness”, and ‘ me consciousness” that is, our everyday, normal, human, self-focused sort of consciousness. When we’re filled with Christ consciousness, when we’re fully with God, fully open to Christ, fully imbued with the Spirit’s power’we cannot help but forgive anyone for anything. To be filled with Christ consciousness is to be filled with love, and pure love forgives as easily as scent comes off a rose. Modeling this cause-and-effect we have, of course, Jesus himself, who unforgettably proclaimed his forgiveness for his killers even as they delightedly crowed at his suffering. (‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing’ (Luke 23:34).) That shows the power of Christian forgiveness. And it’s important that we learn to forgive like this, because it’s important that as often as possible we ask the Lord to fill us with his Holy Spirit. But most of us aren’t usually so overflowing with the Spirit that if we got mugged we’d be swimming in thoughts of how much we love and forgive the criminal as he busily clubs us about the head. We’re just not geared toward that level of forgiveness. In fact, most of us can’t instantly forgive someone who budges into the ’10 Items or Less’ aisle with eleven items in their cart! We have our spiritual, Christ-filled mode of consciousness, and we have our material, self-identification mode of consciousness. The Spirit of God, and the mind of ‘us. It’s the ongoing mixing, experiencing, and juxtaposing of the two that de-

scribes and defines the internal life of all Christians. If with our human mind we attempt to forgive a grievous offense, we’re almost certain to fail; resentment (however deep it’s buried) is sure to linger. And even if we try to forgive such an offense by bringing it into the realm of our Christ consciousness, we will invariably find ourselves still pained by it once we’ve reassumed that mode of consciousness by which we must, after all, tend to the practical, everyday business of life. So the answer to whether being a Christian means you have to forgive everyone who’s ever done anything unloving to you is: Yes, you must forgive others their trespasses against you, as God forgives your trespasses against Him. But achieving lasting forgiveness requires both a redeemed heart and a renewed mind. Both have a definite role to play in the process that culminates in true forgiveness. Sometimes to forgive someone, all you have to do is take a moment to understand them and to walk a mile in their shoes. Other times, knowing that you really aren’t aware of what caused another person to act the way they did means you’ve got to roll up your mental sleeves, dig into your emotional and psychological warehouse, and keep working in there until you can put together and then bring into light a full and true comprehension of what happened.

RESOURCES Rubber Crutches Everyone has a crutch. Will yours hold you up? By Gregory Koukl - Stand To Reason Ministries - Str.org When people ask me, “Isn’t Christ just a crutch?” I have a simple reply. I tell them, “You’re right. Christ is a crutch. But you’ve asked the wrong question.” No one makes fun of a lame person who uses a crutch. So the real question is, “Am I lame; am I crippled?” because crippled people need crutches. The fact is, everybody leans on something. As a Christian I lean on Jesus, because He’s a crutch that can hold me. What about you? When I was a kid and someone told a dumb joke, we’d say, “That’s as funny as a rubber crutch.” The point is “rubber crutches” aren’t funny. As it turns out, though, a lot of people are leaning on rubber crutches. The real question is not whether you have a crutch or not. Everybody does. The real question is, “Can your crutch hold you?”

What’s your fancy? What is it that makes your life work for you? A relationship? A secure job? Your bank account? Your health? Power? All of those are rubber crutches. If whatever you’re depending on for security and significance can be here today and gone tomorrow, then you’re in trouble. You’re leaning on a rubber crutch. And that’s not funny. Yes, Christians lean on Christ. Call it a crutch if you want, but our crutch can hold us. One person put it this way: A Christian is one who has come to the end of his rope. He admits his deep need. He knows he’s crippled in many ways, and needs help. When you finally come to your senses and realize you’re deeply crippled and dying, Christ isn’t “just” a crutch—He’s an iron lung.

POPCORN - cont. FROM PG 13 proof”. On a very different note, “Machine Gun Preacher” is scheduled to release soon as well. Reports vary as to its exact release date. I look forward to seeing this big budget Hollywood film starring Gerard Butler as the title character whose real name is Sam Childers. Childers (who spoke at Glad Tidings Church last year) rescues orphans from war torn Sudan. He does it in the name of Christ, but uses whatever is necessary to “get the job done”. Having heard his story, passion, and love for the children and for Jesus Christ, I have long been awaiting this film and the impact it could have on viewers. Some Christians will no doubt be put off by the R rating (likely due to the rough nature the work and the necessary violence involved), I fear that many Christians will pass on this film and miss a story wellworth hearing. It is my hope that Hollywood (and others like Sherwood Pictures) would

STOP SB 48 - It Costs Too Much It Goes Too Far Sacramento politicians have forgotten the true purpose for schools. Our public schools are not institutions for social engineering. Instead, they are academic institutions. They are intended to ensure students graduate while preparing them for global competitiveness. Instead, SB 48 diverts precious classroom time and resources away from science, math, reading, and writing to promote the political agenda of a few by injecting an individual’s sexual preference, may it be transgender, bisexuality or homosexuality, into our public schools social sciences curriculum. SB 48’s Key Provisions: Requires SB 48 requires all public schools — including charter schools— to include positive discussions of the sexual orientations of transgender, bisexual, and gay Americans in all social science courses. Nothing can “reflect adversely” on these lifestyles. This new law requires the creation of new instructional materials at a time when school districts can hardly afford it. This new law ties the hands of teachers and administrators at the local level and often contradicts what

students are taught at home. This new law requires teachers and administrators to enter into the divisive debate over sexual orientation and morality and to portray only one side of that debate. They are being asked not to tolerate but to advocate. When students in California schools are falling behind in core subjects this is an unnecessary and unwanted burden coming not from educators but social activists in the California Legislature. If this law is left to stand in California it will make its way into other states. Textbooks printed for California are used in other states. We need 750,000 signatures to qualify for a referendum.

Epic Makes Early Move to New, Expanded Campus On the heels of another record-setting year of increased enrollment, EPIC Bible College (formerly Trinity Life Bible College), has located to a new campus just off of the Interstate 80 corridor at 4330 Auburn Boulevard. It includes over 30,000 square feet of space—nearly four times the size of its former home off of Madison Avenue at Hillsdale Blvd.—with plenty of on site parking and “front door” access to public transportation. The $2.3 million new campus project began earlier this year with construction work to be finished within weeks for new classroom and administrative facilities. In the meantime, donations of goods and services—including new furniture, computer systems, video monitors and equipment for the music labs and col-

lege library and resource center, continue to pour in—valued at over $250,000 and growing. “The generosity of our students, alumni and community never ceases to amaze me,” stated Dr. Ronald Harden, DD, President, EPIC Bible College. EPIC’s new building offers state-ofthe-art classrooms designed to accommodate up to 35 students in each, music labs, computer labs, an expanded college library and resource center, student and faculty lounges, a new 1,800 square foot Chapel, EPIC Hall—special purpose space for community gatherings and graduations, wings of offices for college administration and faculty, and the EPIC Courtyard overlooking Arcade Creek, offering the entire campus community a

peaceful place for meditation, study, meal and class breaks. Soon, the college’s the will begin development of online, graduate and doctoral degrees, in addition to its current two and four year degrees that provide study in education, music, counseling, youth and Christian ministry. Trinity Life Bible College (TLBC) began its modest operation over 38 years ago on the campus of Trinity Life Church in the Sacramento area. In 2010, TLBC formally announced the non-profit entity and a new name—EPIC Bible College. In recent years, the college has experienced a steady 10% growth in full time student year-to-year enrollment and a 30% increase in its current fiscal year operating budget—upwards of $3 million annually. With the workforce now looking inward for a more purposeful life and career, EPIC’s college enrollment exploded—78% increase from 2008 – 2010, and 30% increase in student enrollment in just this past year. Now, entering the 20112012 school year, the college expects to see over 400 students each quarter. Arguably, one of the most culturally diverse colleges in the U.S., EPIC’s student body is comprised of teens to mature

and senior populations from over 200 area churches and boasts a population that is 7% international, and 58% female—27% greater than the female population at similar institutions across the nation. Among the most respected higher education institutions in the region, EPIC Bible College ranks within the top 10 U.S. colleges of similar size and degree programs (Federal Government Ranking: Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System-IPEDS). EPIC Bible College provides a flexible class schedule, financial aid and scholarship programs. The college has also successfully placed hundreds of graduates in leadership positions in over 32 countries around the globe—assisting a worldwide population struggling to achieve basic human needs in the 21st Century. “Our students are like family and they deserve the best education possible. Our new Sacramento Valley campus will allow us to do just that,” said Dr. Harden. “We also envision a series of satellite campuses throughout the region, making it easier for us to support our students and help them to achieve their leadership potential.”

Seven Reasons Why Christians Should Attend the Local Life Chain 1) To both receive ministry and to minister (to the public), aided by the Holy Spirit. If we the church accept the ministry God intends for His sons and daughters, He will empower us to witness truth to motorists and pedestrians and to do so with humility, compassion, and conviction. 2) To provide God a witness to anoint and use to save lives and change hearts in each local area. Life Chain is only a first step into pro-life activism, but it is an important step that tests our hearts and helps prepare us to be willing vessels who aid and protect the defenseless among us. Such is the story of the Good Samaritan and the story of Christ’s called-out Bride—the humble sheep who meet urgent needs in Matthew 25. Let us embrace the cardinal virtues mercy and justice. Their defense of our homeland clearly exceeds that of our military arsenal. 3) To join a national prayer chain that seeks God's forgiveness and intervention. "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray... [2 Chron. 7:14]." Consider the moral decay today in church, government, academia, and commerce. Consider the attack on traditional (biblical) marriage. Consider the epidemics of pornography, sexual disease, cohabitation, illegitimacy, divorce. All are linked to abortion and the innocent blood of its victims, our fellow citizens. If God used a catastrophic civil war to end institutional slavery in America, what might He use to end the legalized mutilation of our preborn neighbors? Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton have reduced America to one of the world’s most violent nations. Let us who call Christ our Lord confess our destructive, unwitting denial of a holocaust in our homeland and then defend earnestly “those led away to slaughter.” 4) To better understand the impact abortion is having on our country and why the church must end it. The church can defeat legalized abortion and its spirit allies, but to do so, we must move beyond the “abortion issue” and truly val-

ue preborn humanity and their progeny. Our luke-warmness toward their brutal deaths grieves our Lord, who assures us He “avenges blood” and does not forget “the cry of the afflicted [Psalm 9:12].” Of Judah, God declared before sending them into captivity, “They do not plead the cause of the fatherless to win it [Jere. 5:28].” Has not Satan stolen our compassion and urgency for the Unborn? 5) To move the church, under pastoral leadership, from the sanctuary to the “city gates” and “marketplace.” For 44 years (since Colorado and California legalized abortion in 1967), we the corporate church have yielded substantially to détente and comfort while a small percentage of worshippers labored unsuccessfully for a breakthrough to end the legalized killing. Thus the essentiality of pastoral exhortation and leadership. Wrote Afro-American pastor Clenard Childress, Jr. in No Shepherds Cry: “The pew cannot do what the pulpit is suppose to do.” When King David stayed home from war (2 Sam. 11), Childress explained, evil forces prevailed. Legal abortion will end when the church rises resolutely against it. Of urgent need are shepherds who humbly equip themselves for battle and inspire the sheep to do so, who in union with the sheep seek God’s divine help and resolve to defend endangered lambs unrelentingly. 6) To honor our youngest fellow citizens who most often have perished alone, within blocks of multiple church altars. Let us acknowledge our replication of the failed German church under Nazism. Let us cultivate heart for over 55 million surgically aborted U.S. and Canadian Preborns (additional millions have died from chemical contraceptives) who, like European Jews, had only the church to rely on. 7) To help build a resolute army of Christians who are pro-life in both word and deed. Let us engage the enemy, boldly and unashamed, until the curse of legal abortion is lifted and America and Canada again provide security and freedom for every citizen, born and unborn.

In the bustling coastal town of Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, in a barn like building that bears no resemblance to a church commonly found in America, lays a hidden treasure - Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos (Victorious Warriors Church). My wife and I had been searching to find a church home for my wife’s family, who had recently accepted Christ when we had came across this Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos. We have watched my in-laws go from a spiritual birth to a mature living breathing relationship with Jesus Christ since they started attending that church a few years ago. The whole family is now involved in ministering in different areas in the church under the spiritual guidance of Pastors Miguel and Elizabeth Jauregui. To see the transformation take place in the lives of my wife's family is a living testimony of the growth that is happening in this church. Besides their regular Sunday and Wednesday family services, and Saturday night youth services, they also minister regularly to men in a drug rehab center in Ensenada. They take Bibles and pamphlets to inmates in prison, rounding up children off the street to feed and teach them about Jesus, and they maintain a large youth group. They are also involved in a great spiritual move that is taking place right now in Ensenada. People are searching for truth and the city is on fire for Christ. We have seen new Christian churches popping up in various places throughout the area and banding together like never before with the Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos church being in the center of it all. Saturday April 16th, 2011 in the surrounding hills across Ensenada, the Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos along with the seventy other churches from the region gathered together to take back the city for Christ. At eleven a.m. that Saturday scuba divers along the coastline released anointing oil onto the ocean floor. While church parishioners prayed hand and hand at the foot of the surrounding hills, two airplanes dropped anointing oil and wheat over Ensenada declaring "revival in the city".

On May 15th, 2011, Pastor Jauregui, along with seventy other Pastors from Ensenada gathered around the City Hall. They prayed for the government and law enforcement officials to make Godly decisions and also for their safety. As Ensenada’s revival heats up, the Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos church attendance is also up. Pastor Jauregui has a vision of expansion that includes the purchase of a parcel of land that is now for sale adjacent to the church. This expansion will more than triple their max capacity of the building they are currently in making it one of the larger facilities in the area. God is working in and through Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos church to reach out to the area it is in and the enemy does not like it. Also, because of its location in the community, a group has targeted and inquired on purchasing that same parcel of land to construct a bar/dance hall. The land owner wants to sell to Iglesia Guerreros Victoriosos church, and for a limited time is holding off on offers from the other group. The church believes God will provide the funds needed to purchase the land. To learn more about this hidden treasure in Ensenada go to www.iglesiaensenada.com

EDITORIALS GULLIBLUS MAXIMUS Jon Skillman “You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:3. God goes on to say… “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything… You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God… “ Even while Moses was up on the mountain receiving this commandment from God, the Israelites were busy crafting a golden calf to worship. They were also busy breaking many of the other commandments Moses was about to tote down the mountain and set before them. Suffice it to say, Moses was not a happy camper when he returned to find the Israelites running amuck. I guess, in this instance, you could chock it up to ignorance of the law. But it seems the die had been cast. The Israelites never got clear on the one God concept and they went on to record a yoyoed history of idolatry. They went from One God, two gods, three gods, four, and every time they fell into idolatry, the One True God provided, shall we say, a valuable yet painful learning experience. One would think that after one or two lessons they would get the message. But n-o-o… they’d just whip up another idol and start all over again. Numbers 25:1-3, tells of how, while waiting to take possession of the Promise Land, some Israelite men began cavorting with Moabite women, who in turn led

them to worship Baal of Peor, the pagan god of strength and virility. Baal was cast in the image of a bull, which was fitting considering he was, in fact, a bunch of bull. Well this angered the One True God and He ordered Moses to kill all the Israelites who idolized Baal. This leads me to believe that God is pretty serious about this idolatry thing. The reason I’m telling you all this is because I see some Christian Churches beginning to worship a very powerful god of the secular world. Gulliblus Maximus, the god of tolerance, the golden piglet that swallows everything it is fed. Now tolerance is neither good nor bad. It simply eliminates the need to stand up for one’s convictions. Gullibus can ignore moral and ethical standards because he has become the standard on which acceptance is based. This is a particularly dangerous concept within the Church. We are seeing things not of God, now being accepted as good. The little piglet, in effect, is eating away at the very truth of God’s Word. Tolerance for tolerance sake is evolving into a form of idolatry and the Church would be well advised to remember the plight of the Israelites. There is room for only one god in God’s house. Christians have to decide whether to stand with the Lamb, or wallow with the pig.

AS WE SEE IT The Watchers Seth Halpern

Has God done anything in your life? Recently? Please take a moment to think about that question. I’m not talking about your testimony of when you came to know Christ. I’m not talking about an incredible miracle you experienced years ago. I mean recently. Maybe this week or last week. If God is Alive and Ever-present in our lives then I believe He is still working in us and through us. Sure, we have a lousy economy, major unemployment, almost continual natural disasters. Yet, God is still at work in each of us inasmuch as we allow Him. Our enemy wants us to look to the problems, circumstances and difficulties of our present situation. The Lord wants us to see His work in the midst of it. Some of these things might be tangible- a monetary blessing, physical healing, answered prayer, but much of it will be intangible. These are the lessons we learn and the growth we experience as we draw near to Him while enduring the trials. On the other side, we are being watched. Remember how the devil watched Job as God allowed him to experience horrible suffering. Job was the victor and God was pleased. The devil left for someone else. The same thing happened to Jesus in the wilderness. After watching and losing, the devil left for a more opportune time. Those are our victories, through the power of the Holy Spirit. However, it is not only the devil (and his workers) that are watching. Unbelievers are also watching. They watch how we deal with our trials. They watch to see if we are going to continue to be faithful to God and trust in Him.

Seth Halpern - Editor When we are, they are more deeply impacted than any evangelism or debate would influence them. But when we are not? Well, that speaks volumes as well. If our God does not make a difference in our lives in the midst of the fiery trials, then what is the benefit of my faith? Praise God that He does! Let’s share those victories with others to encourage them and reinforce their faith while being a witness to God’s glory and grace! If you have (and I know you have!) experienced His peace, joy, and hope through a difficult circumstance (health, finances, relationships, etc) would you briefly share that with us so that we can print it and encourage those going through similar situations.

“He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When others are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.” 2 Cor 1:4 (See the front page for our contact info to mail or email your story)
